What's with the uniforms?

Featured Replies

As in a classic muscle car kind of way... I guess.

I just want to make sure I was clear because my post is kind of confusing. The normal UGA jerseys and helmets are one of my favorites and the new ones are horrendous.:thumb:

I like some of the new uniforms but I hate some of them as well. I don't see how anyone could like the Maryland uniforms. What are they supposed to be, the state seal or something? Just horrible. At least make both sides match. Even a Terrapin shell pattern would be okay. I don't think you have to stick with tradition all the way but I don't like changing the school colors like that.
Maryland has worn some gold and black to go with the red and white on occasion ... the Terps have worn gold basketball uniforms at times in the past, even dating back to Len Bias' day, because all those colors are on the state flag.

This combination, though ... makes me cringe.

I remember the gold but those jerseys have navy blue in them. If they want to use flag colors then change the school colors. If not then adapt the uniforms to the school colors.

They are pretty terrible. I love the New Oregon uniform.

Maryland's would be alright if it weren't for the helmet.

Not to mention the shoes ...

The ones I remember had black instead of navy blue, but sometimes it's hard to tell on TV. When I was a kid, I thought Penn State's colors were black and white.

Pretty sure Maryland's helmets were designed to make the opponent recoil in horror, and therefore they march to victory.

I'm a Maryland guy.

And these unis are the worst I've ever seen. Reminds me of the villian "Two-Face".

As bad as Georgia's are, Maryland's are by far the worst

I completely agree, those were some of the ugliest uniforms I have ever seen.

For the most part, tradition is exactly what most of these schools are attempting to get out from underneath. With the exception of Georgia, most of the schools doing radical things with uniforms are from places that aren't traditional powers and don't have the massive local recruiting base that the traditional powers have. If it gives a school like Oregon -- which has to rely on grabbing kids out of California and other, larger states to be competitive -- some sort of recruiting edge, then I don't blame them at all. Tradition? In what way is being on the outside looking in but somehow observing "tradition" useful to these schools? "Tradition" says that Oregon has no shot at competing with USC, UCLA, or the rest of the Pac-10. I don't blame them one bit for attempting to throw it out the window. I wish UofL had uniforms like Oregon's... I really do.

Tradition? They can keep it. Tradition is for church and Christmas dinner. I have no use for it when it comes to football.

Fine, you're entitled to your opinion, but you can have these uniforms. Like I said, it won't continue to keep getting recruits, so it won't last and they'll be back to mediocrity.

Even I'l admit Maryland's makes Oregon's look good....in a kind of Space Ghost way...

Its been working for well over a decade, what factual evidence do you have that it won't continue? None. It's your opinion.

And not only that this glorious tradition you speak of is being built right in front of your eyes. One National Championship appearance at a time.

I posted several weeks back in another "changing uniforms" thread, I kind feel like the newer football programs and/or non-traditional football schools are trying to appeal to the younger and and more easily impressed/influenced athletes. They're trying to show how progressive and hip they are as compared to the Alabamas and Penn States out there who "don't ever change their uniforms".

Another take on the whole thing: Nike says, “Jump.” Nike school with no football tradition says, “How high?”
