Yes and no. Don't tell me those kids that go to Stanford or some of these other great academic institutions couldn't get into ND. Problem is, they no longer corner the market.

But...if indeed the reason they're coming to those schools is the uniforms then when everyone else does it they lose any edge they had. Then what do they have to keep these kids coming? Seems like uniforms would be an easy thing to compete with and in a few years Oregon and Boise are going to need some new gimmick.

I hope they continue to be successful, you may be right, their past success may be enough to keep them going. I hope so, I'd hate to think uniforms is all they have going.

 

Not talking about you here, Habib. Funny how I see people knocking Notre Dame in this thread and another one as washed up. They rank 4th all time in most wins in NCAA history, started ranked this year and very well may end up ranked, yet some think they're done. I disagree. Sure they had a rough run for a while, but they're far from washed up.

Adapt and move forward or get left behind...no one in here is saying you have to do it those schools with 100 year old traditions of winning do not have to but to dog the schools who do not have the tradition for doing whatever they can to contend and improve is asinine.

There are only a handful of traditional power "football programs." There are a lot more schools out there that aren't competitive, don't win, and have traditions of failure. Why do you fault some of them for going out and upgrading their uniforms, building nice stadiums, state-of-the-art field houses, etc. and getting their schools noticed?

 

By the way, Ohio State, LSU, and Navy will unveil new Nike Pro Combat uniforms this year. Alabama, Florida, and Ohio State each began wearing them last year. It seems like even the traditional powerhouses want in on it.

After all, if garish (you might have to look that one up) uniforms are an indicator, then Army would have take the crystal trophy a couple of years ago with the hideous digital camo uni's.

They're attempting to stand out in a different way to these recruits in order to give them some sort of edge against schools with a massive alumni base and a century of football excellence. "Come here instead because it might be fun" doesn't really do the job. You need something to put you out in front of those big-time schools.

No, that's a severe misinterpretation of my reasoning. I've said that schools use the new uniforms to make themselves more attractive and that I believe it will eventually become the norm. I invoked Navy to show that even more traditional, conservative schools were adopting the new uniform designs.

A kid UK is recruiting for basketball today said he doesn't like Baylor because their uniforms are ugly.
