Track the Reds (Week 6)

Sure looked like they missed that call on Gomes. I don't mind it in that spot, though.

The ump blew the call, and I'm not sure why you didn't mind the ump blowing that call.

Oops. To clarify, I don't mind Gomes trying to leg that out in that spot as opposed to being satisfied with the one-run lead.

:thumb: I agree. Gomes definitely should have been sent, and if the ump gets the call right the Reds have a 3-1 lead, and a runner at 2nd with Phillips coming up.

Needed the run to tie the game.

Leake had given up all 3 runs in the previous inning and was heading into the 8th.

Thought you guys were worried about too much pitching for Leake?

I would agree with pinch running for Hernandez. That was a mistake to not.

But after it was made and Leake made it to 2nd, it was time to pinch run for him again.

As far as you guys, I keep reading on here how Dusty is mishandling Leake by letting him pitch too much. Than he pulls him out in the bottom of the 7th and someone wants to know what he is getting pulled out. Dusty is darned if he does and darned if he doesn't on BGP.

You're kidding, right?

Dusty made a bad decision by letting him hit. Leake should have been pinch hit for, but Dusty wanted to try to get Leake the W. He made a bad decision even worse when he let Leake hit, THEN pinch ran for him.

I think Leake was under 100 pitches at the time. I would have taken him out and used Massett & Cordero in the 8th & 9th, but I wasn't too upset when he stayed in to hit. But to let him hit AND pinch run for him is just horrendous.

The only thing I've read is that the Reds are going to have a tough decision to make on Leake later in the year because he only pitched something like 162 innings last year. Dusty has been very good with Leake this year IMO. There might have been one start that might be questionable, and I think he let him go 114 or so pitches this game. I agree with Homer Bailey in that I believe pitch counts are overrated. When did pitchers start becoming such wimps? I don't ever remember pitch counts back in the 70's when most teams went with a 4 man rotation.

I thought about the pitch count and innings pitched questions last week when Robin Roberts passed away. Take a look at his 7 year stretch between 1950-56.

183 Complete games and an average of well over 300 innings pitched per year. I wonder what his pitch count numbers were??

Technically they are in 2nd and 3.5 games out.. right now they are contender but they may not hold up.

Much easier to watch them play when they are 3 games out of first place rather than 12. Especially early in the season!

LBBC was mentioning worrying about Leake's innings and number of pitches, that is me, I'm the one that started that thread and I still worry about it. I love this guy and want him to have a long career with the Reds, not a two or three season run and flameout. Limiting his innings, in my opinion, is the best option. I have no research to back this up, it is my opinion and probably isn't worth much.
