By the way, this NEWS was from January, and talking about the campaign. Not the government. ALL campaigns try to CONTROL the message. There is no story here at all. How in the world can any of you think that is not the purpose of a campaign, to get people to talk about what you want them to talk about.

But several top White House officials have taken aim at Fox News since communications director Anita Dunn branded Fox "opinion journalism masquerading as news" in an interview last Sunday.

White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel told CNN on Sunday that President Obama does not want "the CNNs and the others in the world [to] basically be led in following Fox."

Obama senior adviser David Axelrod went further by calling on media outlets to join the administration in declaring that Fox is "not a news organization

The Fox News thing is more recent than January

I agree. Even though I think that there is a lot of truth about what the fears are about FoxNews, this is not a battle that the adminstration should be waging.

Why should they fear Fox when they have every other outlet? I would fear more not having someone that shows the other sides of the arguments. If nothing else FOX cancels MSNBC but that still leaves the administration with a lot of friends out there.

Helen Thomas of all people came out against the Obama WH and in the corner of Fox News. Told them to get over themselves.

Veteran White House reporter Helen Thomas on Monday advised the Obama administration to stand down and avoid fighting with Fox News and its correspondents.

"They can only take you down. You can't kill the messenger," said Thomas, who has covered every president from John F. Kennedy to Barack Obama.

Unless January was the last two weeks, it is much more recent.

Seems very similar to the attack that the WH had on Rush trying to paint him as the leader of the GOP and lessen the GOP's effectiveness. Plan was put together in Sept before the election and carried out after Obama's election.

Now that the Rush strategy has died out, they are taking the Fox strategy to put them as not a news organization but a mouthpiece for the GOP.

White House senior adviser David Axelrod said Sunday that the Fox News Channel is "not really a news station" and that much of the programming is "not really news."

"I’m not concerned," Axelrod said on ABC's "This Week" when George Stephanopoulos asked about the back-and-forth between the White House and Fox News.

"Mr. [Rupert] Murdoch has a talent for making money, and I understand that their programming is geared toward making money. The only argument [White House communications director] Anita [Dunn] was making is that they’re not really a news station if you watch even — it’s not just their commentators, but a lot of their news programming.

"It’s really not news — it’s pushing a point of view. And the bigger thing is that other news organizations like yours ought not to treat them that way, and we’re not going to treat them that way. We’re going to appear on their shows. We’re going to participate but understanding that they represent a point of view.”

I read one report that made a good point.

If the WH wants to do this and be taken as a credible point, than they should come out against NBC and all of their arms for doing what is a similar view for the Democrats.

Also, as was pointed out, MSNBC doesn't cover the news on Sat-Sun but rather does prison documentaries, because Obama doesn't give press conferences on Sat/Sun.

IMO, Helen Thomas rarely if ever plays favorites with presidents from either side of the aisle. :thumb:
