Wow, really? The only conversation that may have occurred remotely resembling that was "don't go raid the middle school program of its players. Work with the middle school coach to decide when to pull people up and who had earned the the chance to play with the high school."

They need to go get Nick Barton. Frankfort High Grad. Lives in the community. Won't see it as a stepping stone to something else. Never gave up on the program. Ran a great summer program one year, but was passed over when hiring time came. He would do all of the right things. Question is whether or not he wants it after all that water that ran under the bride.

I just love seeing Centre College and eastern Ky boys making it in the big city, under the bright lights. Centre has turned out some mighty fine coaches. I don't know about Corbin . . .wasn't Mike a runnin' redhound?

There was just recently a thread on the Frankfort situation from 05. Deron does a nice job, he was in a very tough situation in Frankfort - not healthy for a lot of people.

You must not know Roni. He went to KSU and played football there, at a high level. He now works in Frankfort, Coaches some AAU basketball, has a family. I have watched his son who is in middle school with mine. He is an outstanding young man, very personable, friendly, and of good character. So I would say that Roni is making good on his life after school. But I guess it was worth it for you to try to get a dig in.

Jordan Samuels is great with those kids and will do a good. He has a much better temperament than his high school coach had . . .:lol: 6th and 7th grade has some really talented players. Norman should be a solid presence there along with Jeremy Howard (SSS teacher) who will be helping him. This will be an interesting year to say the least.

You know the football team has been in the state semi-finals and state-quarter finals the last two years, they have a two or three year streak going against Danville, they are dominating their district and Western Hills. The ONLY teams they haven't been beating lately are Franklin County in the regular season, and Beechwood in the playoffs, so I would say they are WINNING and have established a pretty strong PROGRAM in football. As for basketball there are really only a couple of issues. Chalk left on his own, Norman was hired at a bad time in the district, and the last two either chose not to get involved in the community or were unable to find jobs in the district. When you are a class A school it is important for the coach to be a part of the school community. Living out out of town AND not teaching in the district make it impossible. If you are doing one of those only, you might be able to make it but you can't if you are doing both. The 1th region is very unforgiving for small schools. The KHSAA did FHS a disservice by not moving them to the 8th when they did the redistricting.

A team wins on the road, having replaced the entire offensive line and the first back-up on the line, an athlete (QB) playing at UK this year, two corners and free safety, its starting receivers, and most of the starting defensive line and people come on here and say "with all of the athletes they have, they are undisciplined" and that the offensive line coach has to do a better job, and "come back Aklin". Holy Cow - do you assume in h.s. that you can recruit position players and should have replacements that are at least as good as the players who left? Do you know that Frankfort had a whopping 28 players to come out this year and that there was not even a middle school football team last year? Do you also know that Foley and Buckett and Caoch Rob are not going to play people who don't come to practice and do the things they ask. You want them to put people on the field that you believe are good athletes and they may have excelled for the "Bengals" but how good are they coming to work everyday and becoming a part of the team and making the grades, etc. This staff does a great job with the kids they have (fewer than 300 in the h.s.) and facilities they have and the money the district has. None or those things are a fault of anyone, but they all must be taken into consideration when noting the accomplishments of this coaching staff and the players over the last 6 years. I hope they are around for a long time and continue to do the work they are doing.

You need to delete this post. It is, at the very least, an implied personal attack. I don't care what you may have heard but unless you have personal experiences with him then you need to have better sources. He cares about the kids on his football team and about the kids at FHS. I watch him with his daughter and I am impressed by how he treats her, with love and encouragement and I sit by him in Sunday School nearly every Sunday. It is easy to sit behind a keyboard and smear an individual - but you should not do it to this good man. Sheeesh. If/when he leaves, it will be a grave loss to this community.

Just for the record, I think replacing the OC will be one of the toughest jobs Foley will have. I have rarely seen a running game that was so unpredictable and explosive. The passing game was also unpredictable, but in a completely different way.

Bucket - you know that I was just giving you a hard time. I love Panther football and Coach Foley and you and all of the coaches that are leaving. Maybe there will be another swing and we can get going to make some improvements. I do know that one of the asst. supers was at Home Depot the other day trying to drum up money to repaing the stands and repair some sections of it. People are working, it is just a different paradigm now and we have to be creative. Heck, my yung' uns will be there in only a few years and I will want the best facilities for them

#1. You do realize that the LIBRARIAN at the high school had 10 days cut from her contract 2 years ago, and that the bookkeeper had days cut from her contract this past year. #2. Have you looked lately at the educatioal facilities in the district? Second St. which has sorely needed a roof for many years is just now getting one. #3. The windows in every building leak heat and air. #4. there is no baseball field, #5. there is no soccer field, #6. there is no softball field there is no track, there are no tennis courts #7. The bands got their first uniforms in almost a decade just this spring #8. (couldn't find a good analogy to practice equipment in a short time) #9. How is the technology for the school district???? Have you checked out the third building in the district lately to see what kind of facilities it has?? You have better bathrooms in the field house than Wilkinson Street School has. We could go on like this for a while, but you cannot say the distrit does not support the football program or other athletics. The simple fact is that the district does not have money and these are lean economic times and the state legislature has not helped out. This year alone Frankfort Independent has lost almost all of its ESS money and 25% of its' safe schools money - which helped pay for a school social worker. Where would you like them to get the money to pay for these things? Go check out the baseball facilities at Western Hills. Those facilities were built by the baseball booster club and the upgrades have been contributed by the booster club. And they have had the same coach there since 1991. Most of the work done at Franklin Co's baseball field was also contributed by their boosters and alumni. The booster club at Western Hills raised money to pay for a third assistant for both the boys and girls basketball programs. you see, I completely agree with you that you cannot attract and keep good coaches with that kind of pay, but in this district you cannot pay more than that unless you have people raising money to help out.

What could you possibly want the district to do that it has not done?

WOW, just WOW. Do you even know Foley? Have you observed him teach? Do you know how the students - players and non-players alike - respond to him? Do you know how successful he has been with the program? This is just absolutely amazing to me. That football program is one of the few positive things that have been going on at FHS (test scores have been reasonable) since 2003. ALL of the credit for that goes to the coach. He fights for the program and he fights for his kids and he takes care of business in the classroom. This is why good people leave the profession - they can't please everyone and the disgruntled ones slander them on a message board. WOW

The thing is, there is always someone (business) in Frankfort who is willing to offset the cost of having the event. Maybe the new administration will be more willing to work with local organizations.

I agree Coach Buckett. Anybody in central kentucky that wants to see great football ought to be on the river next Friday. These are a great group of kids with lots of personality and tons of heart - they also have great leaders in the staff that Coach Foley has assembled: Hats of to each and everyone of those coaches - offensive and defensive play-calling tonight was incredible. Coach Buckett had the offense rolling, dive, dive, dive, sweep, spot pass, ot, ot, keep, REVERSE, fumbleruskie:sssh:, end around - the Mayfield defense could not key on any one player b/c of the great play calling. Coach Acklin did the same thing on defense. People might think you should shut someone out, but not in the second round of the playoffs. The 4th down stand in the third was brilliant (moving 83 around a bit) and the tackling was superb. Coach Roberts has done a great job with both of the lines with the Panthers controlling both sides of the ball. Marty, James, Terry, OG, Booker WHAT A STAFF - who are great role models too, and what great execution of a well designed game plan by the Panthers. It has been awesome watching them grow and mature for the last 4 years. Good luck with Beechwood.:thumb:

So you don't count the five or six straight years that Frankfort won the district to be of any signifcance, or the run that they made in the all A tournament, or the fact that they have been to the Region every year since about 1998. You might have a point to say that they have not had a top 5 team in the state since 1980 but I may even disagree with that. I think Scott Kinney played on #1 or #2 team in the state and he graduated after 1980. The fact that they are not going on trip does not make them a bad team or make it a bad program. The simple fact is that with less than 325 kids in the school they have to share athletes and sometimes parents get tired of raising money. A coach with a lengthy tenure will certainly help out, but this program is by no means in the toilet as is implied.
