Just saw in the Lexington Herald Leader that Coach "Redd" Hutchinson has stepped down at Dunbar. This should cause a lot of interest throughout the state...2200 students and a good crop of talent.

 

Name some Candidates.

This is not the job it used to be. They won 3 games this year and they are in a tough district. Simply not getting the kids they used to get. I don't think they'll get as much interest as some might think.

Coach Biggs would be great for a job like this but he has a good job in Ashland. Why would he leave Ashland for this job? Just wondering

Coach Biggs does a great job with his programs especially Pendleton and Ashland.

Anderson County does more with less talent than almost any school in the state year in and year out. The coaches over there have to know and be doing something right over there. Imagine what a good, knowledgable coach could do with 2200 students to choose from?

I would go with Norman at Frankfort. He was a longtime assistant at Dunbar, he knows about the school, its feeders, and can get former players involved in the rebuilding process. There are a lot of great players that need to get back in that gym again.

Bringing back someone who knows the area would probably be a good idea to get the program back to where it used to be.

Who was he an assistant with? Frank Watson? Eddie Oakley? "Redd" Hutchison?

 

Oakley and Hutchison were only there for 3 years or so each and I don't recall his name on Watson's staff so I'm trying to figure out who he was a longtime assistant with.

No one ever said that Anderson was not good. I gave the coaches a compliment by saying that they do more with less talent year in and year out than any team Ive seen.

 

Year in and year out, Anderson County competes with and beats a team like Shelby County who has MUCH more talent. If you dont believe Shelby County has MUCH more talent and athletes than Anderson County then youve lost it.

 

Last season was the 1st season in a long time that Anderson County had athletes and talent that equalled Shelby County and you see what happened...Anderson was 3-0 vs. the Rockets. This season, Anderson County didnt belong on the floor with Shelby(athlete and talent wise) yet they were very competitive both games this season including a 32-30 defeat and a district championship that was even until Anderson lost their point guard to a broken leg.

 

So what your saying is that schools like Waggener, South Oldham, Grant Co, J-town, Barren Co, Covington Scott, Mercer Co, Montgomery Co, Bullitt Central, Clay Co and Grayson Co should never be BAD in any sport because they are 5A?

I didn't mean coaching had nothing to with it. Glen Drury has been working wonders at Anderson County for years. But your original comment made it seem like they are winning regional titles at a nothing school when in truth Anderson County is likely one of the five biggest schools in the 8th region. To imply that he always does it with no talent isn't a fair statement. Statistically speaking any 5A school should have some talent. It's up to the coaches to mold that talent into wins; and Anderson County usually does that.

 

To address the original intent of the thread, though, yes, Drury would be a good choice for Dunbar.

He was an assistant under Watson and Oakley from 97 - 2003. Freshman under Watson and JV under Oakley. He took the Head Coaching position at Frankfort in 2003.

Wow, that's kind of funny. Didn't Norman get axed halfway through his second season at Frankfort for lack of control? And, isn't he currently coaching middle school. Not exactly the pedigree any high school, much less a 6A school like Dunbar, would be looking for in its next coach.
