You evidently didn't pay much attention to the incident. It has been an embarassment to Frankfort ever since. If you had you would have learned why he was dismissed. 1) Didn't support the girls enough, (He just let them come to weightlift and open gym because they didn't do anything.) 2) Let them wear black uniforms in a KOB game, 3) Wouldn't get rid of an "at risk" player 4) Game decisions in a 9-4 season. His first year they went to the regional semis and lost to Lafayette, who then went to the state.

 

Not sure where your "Lack of Control" was, must have been #5.

 

Those of us that did educate ourselves about the situation know how ridiculous this was, the superintendent fired everyone but the football coach until she was finally let go.

 

He is back at Frankfort now working for a friend, who happens to be the AD that was let go. He is coaching middle school and I believe building the program that he said he would in 2003 and had there first successful seasons in a while. Believe me Frankfort doesn't want to lose him again.

Wow. You sure do seem to "know" a lot about something that happened 7 years ago. You also seem to have a real high opinion of Coach Norman. Sounds like he got a raw deal. But didn't he follow Coach Chalk who had a lot of success? I'm just saying....

There was just recently a thread on the Frankfort situation from 05. Deron does a nice job, he was in a very tough situation in Frankfort - not healthy for a lot of people.

A product of BGP should be to get to the real story. "Raw deal" is an understatement. Why do you think Chalk left the success? Norman walked into a situation he didn't deserve. He did in spite of the craziness produce a good basketball team that lost on a tip-in in the All A regional and finally won a game in the 11th region tournament.

 

He is a very good person and a hard worker. The kids that played for him are crazy about him. He is a different person, focuses entirely on the kids and not politics and that has been his downfall.

 

As far as the "pedigree" comment he was an assistant at Simon Kenton from 91 - 96 under Trame, they went to the state in 95. Then he was at Dunbar 97 -2003. Coached under Watson and Oakley. At Frankfort he worked with Gary Moore for a short period. That's a pretty good pedigree to which I believe all have been to a state tournament.

 

I just hope if he wants it he gets an opportunity.

Champ Ligon would be an outstanding choice if it's something he's interested in. He has well over 300 wins, was State Coach-of-the-Year in 2007-08 and just happens to have a 17 game winning streak against Dunbar.

Who knows if the superintendent would want to interfere w/ this possibility.

Keith Griesser would certainly be a great pick up for Dunbar. He has taken Montgomery County to the 10th region tournament 3 years in a row and in 2007-2008 he took the team to the finals (only to lose to state champs Mason County). He has a great background with a National Championship at Georgetown College and a state championship with Scott County.

I agree that there are bigger names with better "pedigrees" and those are two of them but I think if Norman wouldn't have gone through the craziness we would be speaking of him differently now. It was originally my opinion that Dunbar needed someone that could bring the pieces back together. To get the former players involved, I think he would have that ability above anyone else.

With a district of Tates Creek, Lafayette, Lex Cath, Lexington Christian - and the non-emphasis Fayette Co. places on athletics - and the way the districting lines are drawn these days, I'd guess Dunbar is a tougher job than a lot of people think.

With the Sweet 16 tipping off yesterday and a ton of bball coaches in the area, what are the rumors out there. I know these coaches are talking, AD's are talking, so there has to be something/someone out there that is being considered.

This is a quality coach, but the Dunbar job may not be a quality situation for Coach Starns.

 

There is obviously a lot more to the athletic program at Dunbar than just meets the eye.
