Couldn’t an 11th regular season game for all teams be added and eliminate round one of the playoffs?   Less teams would qualify for the playoffs but every kid would get one more chance to play a game that the could be appropriately scheduled to better match the team’s talent.  This would not add additional games for any team, since basically all teams make the playoffs now, and it would not extend the length of the season in any way.

It would never happen again but back in the day only the district winner and runner-up went to the playoffs, and you would have better games. But the KHSAA would lose $$ by not having the blow outs of at least the 1st / 2nd round games .

Not correct. The KHSAA ONLY is involved in ticket sales and expenses for the six championship games (Round 5).
For Rounds 1-4, the two schools playing each playoff game share in the ticket sales and expenses in whatever format those two schools agree.

So, don’t consider $$$ for a reason that the KHSAA would not want to change the current playoff system.

Any coach with a vision for having a successful program should embrace having an extra week to coach up and develop kids that will be on the team next year. Teams that go deep in the playoffs have a competitive advantage over those that lose early by getting weeks of extra practice and development.

What is the actual rule on this?  Do KHSAA rules prohibit teams from practice once eliminated?   I believe teams that are a long way from being competitive could gain more from practice.  Practice.  Practice.  Whether that’s in the weight room or on a skills ladder.  Watching Beechwood pound teams during district play makes it hard for me to believe either team is getting better from those games.  I am not a an expert and have never coached football.  I simply can’t see how 50-0 game helps anyone.  I would also argue that specific to a team like BW, they are probably getting pushed harder in practice than they have been the last five weeks.

Taking a guess on this:

Title games - average margin of victory 2 TD's.

Semifinals- average margin of victory 3 TD's.

Title Games 17ppg difference

Semis 19ppg difference

Yep, but you know what they say about things that "make too much sense".

For context, I just went and looked at 1998-2005. Typically 1 game was a running clock, 2 were 14-24 points, and 1 game was 1 posession.

Getting closer to taking the top 16/24/32 per class in whatever metric you want to use. RPI/HRS Ratings/TP94/etc and the rest of the teams can schedule "Bowl" games with whoever they want left.

I like this and it makes the MOST sense.

I don't think so. I seem to recall the KHSAA adopting a policy a few years back that if you withdrew before the final game of the regular season, it was considered a bye week. Essentially, it's as if 2A-District 3 only had three teams instead of a 4th in Fort Knox.

What's the difference between an 0-10 team and a team playing in a State Championship game?

How would the KHSAA lose money?  I think this issue gets confused a lot and I want us all to be clear.

For anyone, at what point does the KHSAA get any money from postseason football games?

The KHSAA only makes money from the state championship games. All of the other money from rounds 1-4 gets split between the two schools.

I'd say most first round games have the following money wise:

The host team is lucky to break even cause the traveling team brings no one, especially for a 1v4 game. They might bring 50 parents.

The team traveling loses money after paying for one or two busses, a team meal, etc. And most of the time this is for a 50 point loss.

In short the main reason these games are cancelled is money.

Also if host schools are honest they make very little money or a lot of the time can lose money.
