Teams need to have above .500 records to make the playoffs. Period.

In '21 Belfry and Paducah Tilghman both entered the playoffs 4-6 and ended up in the state championship, knocking off CAL for PT and Belfry starting like 0-5.

Record really shouldn't matter much, it is your power rating that should matter only the KHSAA doesn't properly assess the teams.  Additionally, that practice would punish teams for playing tough non-district schedules so no way @BlueBloodedColonel!

Record, power ranking, whatever metric you want to use... The point is you should have to earn your way into the playoffs.

At a minimum we need to go back to two teams per district.

And yes I know about some of the past teams that were not top two.

There’s tons of blowouts every week at every level of football. If we just quit playing these games there ain’t going to be many games left to play. The whole feeling bad for a team because they get blown out is ridiculous to me that’s part of sports if losing makes you feel bad don’t play the game.

So, Bowling Green (back to back state champions) would be in a must win this Friday to make your playoff scenario.  Period.

All teams that pull out the playoffs, the next year then need to be forced to go non-district. Or like you said go non-district before the season.

I agree, if you pull out, you are automatically out the following year (non-district).  And if you pull out twice in a ten year period, you are non-district for multiple years.

90 something games last year in the first round. 70+ were running clock. Only 7 saw the visiting team win (that number could be off by a few.)

There’s tons of running clock games in the regular season every week do we just quit playing these games and each team play like 4 or 5 games a year.

If we quit with mandatory district play the number of running clocks between same class schools will go way, way down. Or put another way, within a broken system we can always find problems for every solution.

No. Regular season is different. Every MLB team plays 162 regular season games. But not every MLB team makes the post season. That is the point.

Every high school football team in the KHSAA should play 10 regular season games. But not every high school football team in the KHSAA should make the post season. That is the point.

Do we make the same argument for Ky HS basketball, baseball, tennis, track, wrestling, band and every other competition teams?

Yes, you can.

This is always brought up... "Nobody complains about this in other sports."

Football is OVERWHELMINGLY the most popular sport, especially on this board. Of course, it's going to be talked about more as it relates to football.

I have an issue with teams finishing under .500 not making the playoffs. We went 3-7 my senior year. Played a very tough schedule for a 1A school. We finished third in the districts then went down to #2 Berea and beat the brakes off them. My freshmen year we were 5-5 finished 4th in the districts then beat #1 Raceland 48-8.

Teams worrying about just finishing above .500 will just schedule “weaker teams” and make each week boring.

I caused a stir. ?

I did forget about a few years ago when that happened between Belfry and PT.  An opportunity to play in the post season should be earned.
