I don't know man, it is X with full Frosh and JV schedules each year.  And, plenty of games where the first team doesn't play the whole game.

We're talkng varsity, man. Not Frosh, JV, whatever. Varsity, the big show. There will be players who get into the X Southern game that have.

For me, I don't get why lopsided games bother people so much. They happen in the playoffs in every sport. This whole annual discussion feels like ... old man, get off my lawn ... back in the good old days ... when I played ...

They really don't. No comparison. Not top to bottom (And, I'm not a get off my lawn type. Nothing more defending of that than my last post in absolute favor of playing the finals at Lynn Family Stadium ⚽ ) ?

However....I'm sure they do to an extent- once every 4 or 5 appearances. For example,  during pregame and a quarter or so. ?

Beechwood hasn't missed playing for a region title since 2007...18 straight, and baring a cataclysmic - all systems failure of the most highest of unlikely? They'll be playing in their 19th straight.

Of the 17 Region Titles they've won in that time? Average margin of victory has been 32.5 & that's including the 1 point win over East Carter in 2020, to which I might add....WAS every bit of a 'throwback' region title game.

Serious question...because I'm calling Beechwood to their 19th straight Region Final Trip.

So, since '07, what have they played in the most? ?

Region Title Games

OR

Games that weren't running clocks

Well I disagree, all of these kids work hard all season and deserve a chance to play in the playoffs. Guys you also need to consider that high school sports don’t have unlimited funds so the more games they play the more money they bring in to be able to buy uniforms and other equipment needed to run the program. It seems like to some you would only have the teams that can win it in the playoffs if that’s the case what’s the point of having the 3A playoffs let’s just award CAL the trophy and move on.

Well since a few teams don't make the playoffs in districts that have 5 and 6 teams are you advocating then to change the format so they get in as well since "all of these kids....deserve a chance to play in the playoffs?"  You are correct in your statement that high school sports do not have unlimited funds.  Getting this back to the argument that teams not making the playoffs should replace teams that drop out, a team not making the playoffs is going to be making a long trip.  Knowing the financials of high school sports that team is not making money on that trip. The premise of this thread dealt with teams dropping out and replacing them with teams from around the state who did not make the playoffs, which I find to be really a bad idea.  I don't believe anyone is advocating judging teams and saying well they can win it so they get in.

Beechwood will also have a bye round 1 with Jackson County dropping out.

There is no perfect solution because situations are different for all teams.  Ultimately, It is up to the athletes if they want to play.  Some might want one final game under the lights.  Others, especially if they also play basketball, are ready to move on to the next sport.  Let the kids decide.  It's their team.  Adults make this a bigger issue than it needs to be.

There’s tons of blowouts every week at every level of football. If we just quit playing these games there ain’t going to be many games left to play. The whole feeling bad for a team because they get blown out is ridiculous to me that’s part of sports if losing makes you feel bad don’t play the game.

I completely agree with this. It's not about the blowouts for me.

It's not lopsided games.

Earning a spot in the playoffs.

I agree. Someone mentioned earlier in this thread that the KHSAA doesn't penalize teams that withdraw from the playoffs as long as they notify everyone before the last regular season game.

If that is accurate, I think that is the way to go. Let teams who want to play another game play. Let the teams that don't want another game withdraw.

KHSAA should change it from playoffs to post season tournament.

Interesting. How do you view them differently?

People think about qualifications for playoffs. Tournaments often don't have any qualification requirements. KHSAA basketball is the state tournament and nobody complains about an 0-25 team playing in the postseason basketball tournament.
