I know somebody will pull the stats on the 1V4 games from last season.  I would love to see avg. margin of victory.

I wish these teams would just be like other teams and pull themselves from district play at the beginning like Ohio Co, Holmes and others have.

All teams that pull out the playoffs, the next year then need to be forced to go non-district. Or like you said go non-district before the season.

This is not 1 v 4, this is the average for ALL first-round games last year:

1A: 46-9

2A: 47-14

3A: 49-11

4A: 44-15

5A: 39-12

6A: 37-7

90 something games last year in the first round. 70+ were running clock. Only 7 saw the visiting team win (that number could be off by a few.)

Give the team the option to say no.  If the school wants to handle the transportation cost and the opposing team is for it, go down the RPI rankings and take the next best available that says they want to play.  Some of the seniors on the teams that missed the playoffs might like one more week of football.

We will disagree on this.  Kentucky forcing really bad teams or even giving them options to play playoff games is a bad idea.  Without overhauling the system, if Kentucky continues to use this system (which I assume they will) then I think when a team drops out so be it and the opposing team moves on.  No reason to create games that are not based on the reality of the regular season.

Completely agree. We already have way too many undeserving teams in the playoffs.

I think anyone who has been around high school football for any length of time will agree that 90% of the 0-10, 1-9, 2-8 teams that are a #4 seed getting ready to play a #1 seed on Friday night would rather be anywhere but on a football field today or Friday night. Coaches included. They ALL know they are suffering a miserable season only to also know they are on the eve of a miserable 35+ point running clock blow out loss on Friday.

So, instead of having a post season system that forces those teams to either get “clocked” or forfeit the game instead. (even though 10% of the #4 seed teams do indeed want to play, and every blue moon one of the #4 teams pulls off the upset) the KHSAA needs to assert leadership and vastly change the postseason formats.

We should have a playoff system based on common sense that suits 90% of the member schools.

This. 1000%.

People always want to argue "It gives the kids one more opportunity to play." Those kids (generally) do not want to be there. They don't want to take a 3.5 hour bus ride to get beaten 63-0. I'd almost guarantee that if someone actually asked those teams if they wanted to play, the majority of them would say no.

Kudos to those coaches/schools that listen to their players and withdraw.

It would never happen again but back in the day only the district winner and runner-up went to the playoffs, and you would have better games. But the KHSAA would lose $$ by not having the blow outs of at least the 1st / 2nd round games .

This works for the smaller classes but in 5A and 6A some of the 3 seeds in a few districts and even some 4 seeds are still pretty good teams.  If you look at D1 in 5A there are 3 teams there that all capable of winning their 1st round game and Graves has looked a lot better lately and the game with McCracken this week will give some answers to how much they have actually improved.  I would say there needs to be fewer classes or a way to seed teams that are deserving to get in the playoffs.  Some teams are getting in the playoffs due to playing in a very weak district.

Taking a guess on this:

Title games - average margin of victory 2 TD's.

Semifinals- average margin of victory 3 TD's.

How would the KHSAA lose money?  I think this issue gets confused a lot and I want us all to be clear.

For anyone, at what point does the KHSAA get any money from postseason football games?

Add Jackson County to the list.....

...and I don't blame them one bit.

Any coach with a vision for having a successful program should embrace having an extra week to coach up and develop kids that will be on the team next year. Teams that go deep in the playoffs have a competitive advantage over those that lose early by getting weeks of extra practice and development.
