Wiggins should be a great replacement.

I drove past there today on 471.   Looks like they had stands up.   Unless they just don't have electricity, sewage or running water there didn't appear to be any reason they can't play there this fall.

I believe the Field is located in the Flood Plain and therefore when Buildings/Structures are torn down they are no longer Grandfathered in from what I was told. So with that, they are unable to get Bathroom's/Concessions approved through planning and Zoning. Someone dropped the Ball here. I am hearing they're moving the Stadium over closer to the School and elevating it with the Stands built into the Hillside that holds the School up. Federal Money at it's best. But what a waste of time and money putting up New Stands and replacing Turf knowing all good and well that it all lies within the River's wrath.

So the football field will now run from center field to right field of the current baseball stadium?

According to this Board Doc, they are building the restrooms where the raised area is by the 9th Street steps. doesn't sound like they are moving anything else.

I heard wrong and stand corrected.

There are families in Newport that are genuinely sad about the state of the football program. I know that is probably an obvious statement but I mean it is truly hurting their souls. The football players at Newport deserve better. Middle School has had some talent move up to the high school that will no longer have the will to play in a situation as dire as the one the program is in right now. Will be really sad to watch a bunch of good young football players decide to not play the game they love because of a bunch of stuff that is out of their control. Football players at Newport deserve love too, a lot of Newport football alumni cringing at what is going on there.

I don’t know a lot about what’s going on administratively or in other ways, but I do hope things get better. Regardless, I believe that Paul Wiggins becoming head coach officially has been a positive thing and a move in the right direction. He is a good football coach and alumni of Newport, which is good from the familiarity point with the school, its culture, and more.
