Who Is The Kentucky Coach Next Season?

Featured Replies

Based on what I'm seeing in this year's bracket, if you need a little bracket help start a rumor that their head coach is in line to succeed Calipari. They will lose their next game.

  • I believe universities, in general, are in a weird spot. You have a diminishing product (college bball) with some ridiculous salaries. Who knows what college hoops will look like in five years, or if

I really think it's a toss up as to what happens.  I can see Cal's ego causing a problem in the meeting and at that point who knows?  If Cal would give more control to an assistant or two it would help - again the ego won't allow that.

As to who gets the job if it opens up...  you absolutely call Jay Wright; Billy Donovan: Brad Stevens, and Dan Hurley and make them tell you no.  I think they all would.  Beyond that I think the finalists would be Bruce Pearl, Scott Drew, Mark Few (my preference), and probably Shaka Smart.

Was driving home from the gym yesterday during the 2nd half of the Purdue game. They said that Matt Painter essentially has an assistant coach who is his Offensive Coordinator. Didn't thing that was a big deal or some new idea, until I heard them say that he even let's this coach call the offensive plays/sets using a whiteboard.

Kentucky would have to have plays first though, right? lol

Listening to Matt Jones this morning.

From an unnamed non power 5 assistant coach.   Kentucky is the easiest team in the country to scout. You can do it in an hour.  They may still beat you because they have so much talent.  But they run the same stuff all the time.

Tin foil hat on:

That almost seems like an intentional "make him so hurt and ticked off that he quits" move.  Saving the University millions.

Nah.   This stuff is outsourced.  No local copy desk.
