I'm sure there wasnt a whole lot that moved the needle either way in the Cal/Mitchell interview but I haven't see much on X about it.

  • I believe universities, in general, are in a weird spot. You have a diminishing product (college bball) with some ridiculous salaries. Who knows what college hoops will look like in five years, or if

Felt like the Cal interview was a lot of wasted air.

Imagine if Cal's replacement missed his first two tournaments and then went out in the first round the next two seasons. Would he get, would he deserve a fifth year?

Absolutely, Cal got a chance, he’s been gifted another period of time, wish there was a scenario where we could find out!!

So you'd be fine if new coach came in and missed two tournaments and went out in the first round the next two?

As for Cal getting a chance, do you not think he deserves a chance after looking at his first 10 years? Or is it just strictly what have you done lately as far as Cal is concerned?

That coach would have been fired if that was his first four years, and the whole UK fanbase would be for it. Cal has only been given another shot after these rough four years because he also had a lot of success his first 10 years. If Cal’s last four years were his first four years, he would have not have gotten a 5th.

Cal should be history and we all know that, if mediocrity is fine with the fan base, then Cal is the right guy.

That is fine that you think that. However, you contradict yourself when you say if they hired someone else. That even if that new coach missed the tournament first two years, and the first round exit the next two years that they should still keep their job. If that is your thinking, I guess you think UK messed up from moving on from Billy G after just two seasons?

If Cal can get by with the last five horrific seasons, then the new coach, if that ever happens, should get the same opportunity, what would be the difference? Cal is going to do whatever he wants with no changes in his philosophy and we can just stand back and enjoy.

There is a lot of difference. First it has been four bad season, not five. Second Cal has shown he can win at a high level here before. If a new coach comes in and does nothing in first four years. Then no reason to think they would ever get it right here. Cal has shown he can get it right here and at a high level. Which is why he could survive four bad years and get a 5th.

Which gets back to what I said before do you think Billy G should have been given a few more seasons?

Absolutely not, carrying baggage around with him that was unacceptable.

The last 5 tournaments Kentucky’s region has been won by:

2-11 seeds

2-  8 seeds

and a 5 seed!!!

Just wow!!!  AND pitiful!!!  Guess Cal was right, the committee ALWAYS gives us the toughest road possible!!

I mean I get what you are saying. On the flip side people can also say that shows he is right. The fact that the regions they have been in, have had higher seeds that were capable of making final four type runs. I mean just look at these two first round losses to a 15 and 14 seed. St. Peter’s didn’t only beat us, they made it all the way to the elite 8. So they were clearly much better than what their 15 seed was. Then Oakland this year gave North Carolina State the best game out of anyone in the tournament so far. So Oakland probably much better than what their 14 seed was.

With all that said, it still sucks that they have lost so early, and Cal has to get that changed! Definitely not acceptable.

There is a lot more money in NW Arkansas than in Kentucky. Arkansas is one of a handful of schools that could give Cal a pay raise.
