I thought, maybe you're right.  Maybe the Reds are the outliers in the scheduling oddities.  So, I looked up the Guardians to see what theirs looked like.

* Their only 2 series against Seattle, were in the first 3 series of the year.

* Thru the end of April (9 series)...they played only 1 division opponent.  (Detroit - series 5)

* They played both of their 2 series against the Yankees before they played their second division opponent.

* They play 2 of their 4 division series against Detroit before they play their first series against either the Royals or White Sox.

* When they do finally play the White Sox, they'll play 2 series within a span of 9 days.  Oh, and the other two series they play each other?  Well, that's 7 games within 11 days, later in the summer.

* They play both home/away series against Seattle, Oakland, NY Yankees and Boston...before they play their first (of four!) series against their final division opponent...Kansas City.

* That first series against KC didn't happen until JUNE 27th!!  (This is inexcusable to play half a year without facing a particular division opponent.)

* And then...from June 27th to July 26th...that's 8 series...they'll play the Royals in 3 of them!!!  That's 10 of 25 games!

* They don't play the White Sox in the final 2 months of the season.

* But, hey, they've got the Twins in 2 out of 3 series to end August and begin September. 

 

Ugh...my head hurts.  If there are parameters, I'd hate to see them.

In no way did I indicate the Reds are outliers. Every team presumably has scheduling oddities about it. With all this - and Guardian's schedule - I'm sill trying to figure out what is unfair about any of it? I mean, I suppose you could institute a league wide rigid schedule that identifies each day of a week as either a division game, non-division league game, and inter-league day (used to do this). Of course this impacts television contracts and national game schedules, but if that would make hardcore fans feel better, I guess that would be the way to go? I don't know?

Maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but I'm beginning to believe the Reds will win the Central Division.

The schedule sets up to do it. We’ll know a lot after this 4 game series against the hot Cubbies. 

Shew! Currently in the last 16 innings the Reds have given up 34 runs. 

And despite the last two nights, the Reds are still in first. 

Never fear, Luke Weaver is here to start tomorrow. That should lead to a Reds 14-13 win.

Whew!!  The wheels need some re-alignment on that wagon!

Reds have been playing with house money most of the season. At some point, the come-from-behind wins stop. The only way the Reds make the playoffs is by winning the Central. I don't see that happening.

You're correct on the house money.  Agree also they will have to win the Central, but won't happen.

I was ready to part with India at the deadline, but when he hit the IL, this team hit the skids.    Is he that important?   Numbers may not be up there, but maybe he is the emotional leader on the field?
