As others have stated above, it is all about the pitching. The Reds don't have enough to get them there over 162. I am very skeptical about making a trade for a rental. Stay the course for the long run.

Personally they have been building toward a run for a few years and are a year ahead of schedule. They’ll need to add a starter and reliever to make the playoffs but it isn’t worth giving up the pieces you’ve been developing and could use for many years past this. 
 

With that said, I see them making the playoffs and winning the central.

If they can keep close in the Central or even lead… They will get Lively back this week, Greene and Lodolo back early August. Gotta think they’ll add some pitching before the deadline. 

They are going to need serious pen help.   Even Díaz has looked vulnerable lately.    They can't afford to waste performances like they almost did today.   Abbot was outstanding for 7 2/3.

Abbott, Greene, Lodolo, Ashcraft, Lively, Williamson ... Weaver to swing man.

Just roll with it. Let the youngsters get a flavor and let's find out what they can do.

I originally thought they would go to a 6 man rotation to help limit innings on all the young guys.  With all the injuries, they are lucky to have 4 guys healthy to pitch.  If they can get everyone back I think your rotation is one we might see.  They may have to pick up a journeyman guy just to eat some innings until then.

It has been a magic carpet ride. 

Now that the pitching staff is getting some bodies back, the bats need to stay healthy to make this happen.
