LIPTON BASH
That's a bunch of word salad. We are talking about unions, not groups of attorneys and architects. Just plain goofy. Professionals have protection for their labor because you have to have a license to engage in the business. That's marketing power. Haha I love when you are confronted logic and reason and have no sensible response. I have no problem with Unions. A lot do good. I have two brothers who are union members. I just don't think it should be mandated for your job. That isn't freedom.
LIPTON BASH
Then pass right to work and make union membership optional. That's a real free market, Shhhhh then they lose control.
LIPTON BASH
Electricians have to be licensed, plumbers have to be licensed. By your post I assume you don't believe electricians and plumbers should be unionized. You can assume he/she made a post without a lot of understanding. By your post I assume you don't believe electricians and plumbers should be unionized. The trade unions had a lot to do with our growth from the depression til now. Did a lot of good for our nation, and our prosperity. I'll cast my lot with them, and thank them for all the contributions they made.
ggclfan
There is not one person on Earth who can unite our country at this point. It is really sad. When basically half of the dems actually ADMIT they are OK with socialism, conservative leaning people (capitalists) just look at them as nuts. There is no way our country can afford Bernie...heck, we cannot afford Obama or HRC but Bernie is 10 times worse. NOTHING is free folks. When he wants college tuition to be free, he means other people pay for it. I paid for my kids college. I don't want to pay for anyone else's. JFK would be shocked if he saw the Dems today. Remember he said "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country". Modern Dems would vilify JFK now...

Twotoplace
RM you've never been more wrong than your previous post I commented on. What you described in that post was complete opposite of socialism. Socialism is control by a central government there is no freedom. This country crossed the threshold into socialism more than a century ago. The first great socialist president was Roosevelt -- Teddy, not FDR. Socialist programs actually heighten freedom for average working men and women -- Medicare, G.I. Bill, Social Security, Bush's Plan D drug plan, V.A. hospitals are all socialist programs that improve our lives collectively.

But you said that professions that were licensed didn't need unions as their license was all the protection they needed. So which is it. Should people with professions that require licenses be unionized or not?

And what do you think "what you can do for your country" entails? I believe ensuring we care for the poor, elderly and disabled is a big part of that. I'm solidly middle class now, and yes...taxes are a lot. But I know that's part of my civic duty. Yes, there are abuses of the programs. But many of the most egregious and serious and expensive abuses are not being performed by recipients, but by providers. Yet we want to solve the issues buy cutting aid, when we should be looking at administration of aid.

If Bernie Sanders can detail how he'd pay for his most expensive proposal, why can't Donald Trump? - Jan. 20, 2016 JFK was in a different generation. That was an easy question to ask when it seemed everyone had a shot.
