I agree, I just don't think there's a way to do that.

If there's a game where your fans would potentially rush the court with a win, maybe hire enough security to look after the opposing team? What would it take? 5 security guys to be responsible for the players on the court and 3 or 4 more to get the bench and coaches out safely?

Right....Not wanting players and coaches to get hurt by a bunch of idiot kids is such a terrible thing.

We keep talking about something eventually happening after decades of barley any problems. 99.9% of the time incident free. Then if something does happen we ignore all the incident free moments.

I'd prefer to let kids be kids and if someone crosses the line punish them.

Way more than that. 5 security guys weren't going to stop the fans last night.

At what point do we stop justifying ignorant behavior with the tired excuse of "kids being kids"?

So the high school kid that was paralyzed by court rushers should just write it off as kids being kids. That's asinine.

5 security guys on the court before the fans get to the players to walk the players off. Not 5 security guys to stop 1,000 people from getting on the court. It's certainly not "much ado about nothing" but it's not as big of a deal as you're making it out to be.

How would those 5 security guards get to the various players that are all at different places on the court before the students flood the floor? There was no time between the final buzzer and the court being filled last night.

People get hurt doing all kinds of things. People fall from stadium seats after going for foul balls. Should we ban foul balls from happening? I know one is avoidable and one really isn't but again, that's an extremely unfortunate case. Happened once in what 50 or 60 years?

If the security guys are on the court as the game ends, fans are in the stands as the game ends, they run to the players and escort them off. They have a 20 foot head start. Not that hard of a concept to grasp.

And how are the security guards supposed to get the players off the floor? The idiots rushing the court have no regard for others. They just rush forward, and through anyone in their way.

I'm tossing out ideas of how to make it safer because it's a fun part of college basketball. It's obviously not full proof. If you want to be the spoilsport on the topic, be my guest.

There is a clear point of delineation between players and fans. While not everything is allowed, as a fan you are practically allowed to yell at, call names, etc. to opposing players. In return, you are not allowed to go on the court. Fans are protected because they know players can't cross that line and enter the stands. If they do, they are punished (see Marcus Smart, Ron Artest, et al.). Let players stay in their zone, fans the same.
