After reading 310 posts on this thread,(this is my first post on this thread,) here is my take. From the outside looking in this is what I see. BG wants respect from H and T and H and T aren't ready to throw in the towel about who is #1 in the state. It seems that X is no longer part of "we are best in the state", due to losing to BG.

 

BG thinks they are #1 in the state due to national rankings and beating a mediocre X team that has new coaches. BG returned a lot of starters from last years team and have lots of talent on both sides of the ball. The win streak is impressive, but doesn't factor in the assessment of this years team, as said many times in this thread. BG has few quality opponents compared to H and T.

 

Trinity has a schedule that is brutal and the two losses they have came from teams nationally ranked. They were both well played games that T could have won but came up a little short. Trinity scrimmaged H , but scrimmages don't count in the records or my book.

 

Highlands plays a pretty tough schedule , but does not play BG, T, or X in the regular season.

 

It makes for a good discussion, but the only way to really know who is best in the state is for H, T, and BG is to play heads up and I don't see that happening.

 

After seeing BG play and seeing the T and Ensworth game, anybody that thinks BG could defeat Ensworth needs to go to detox.

No. BG and LexCath played in the last week of the regular season last year.

 

I thought Highlands was better than BG last season but it would have been a competitive game and if Highlands would have won that mythical matchup it wouldn't have been by much.

Yep according to the state were mediocre. But highlands schedule should not even be brought into discussion, because it is poor.

We know John Hardin is less than stellar since they cannot defeat a 2A school.

 

We knew PT wouldn't be able to hang so don't even try to include them.

 

CovCath is too injured and that victory is a foregone conclusion anyways.

Owensboro is one of the 5 best teams BG will face this season. There is no denying that. They'll get hammered by BG this week. Just saying to take BG's best 5 games and compare them to Highlands best 5 games. Both teams will destroy the bottom half of their schedule.

St. X was heralded before the season began as one of X's most talented in a while and ready to take on Trinity as the top of 6A. After two so-so wins people began to wonder. The loss to BG really isn't as bad as some are making it being that BG has beaten them the past two years, are certainly a top team in the state and can be argued as the top team, only time will tell. St. X is a team that people are trying to figure out at the moment. They should be a top team but (according to those who have watched them play) they just can't seem to click. Again, time will tell.

In fairness, even their most vocal fan says they're not who they thought they are. Yet.
