Highlands has Elder and University Christian.

 

We know John Hardin is less than stellar since they cannot defeat a 2A school.

 

We knew PT wouldn't be able to hang so don't even try to include them.

 

CovCath is too injured and that victory is a foregone conclusion anyways.

For what it's worth, I've never agreed with Dale's "this is the toughest schedule Highlands has ever played" stuff. Heck the 06 team played Elder and Lou X in back to back weeks and also played Columbus St. Francis de Sales that year. And of course they played CovCath (who won the state championship) twice that year.

 

And I've not claimed and am not claiming Highlands schedule is tougher than BG's. Just asking who BG's tougher games were this year. At this point I'd probably agree that BG has the tougher schedule, although it's so hard to make that statement with certainty without watching those opponents.

I love how St. X was heralded as one of the top teams in the state before BG beat them. Now they are mediocre. I'm all the way certain now that there would be some glorious excuses if BG defeated Trinity.

 

I would take that as a compliment to BG, and not a slight to X. After watching the BG, X game, do you still consider X one of the top in the state? I don't, not right now.

 

Great programs don't use excuses, they don't have to. I haven't been here long but I checked out the T threads and don't recall seeing any excuses on the T, Ensworth thread. Could you provide us with some that you have seen?

St. X was heralded before the season began as one of X's most talented in a while and ready to take on Trinity as the top of 6A. After two so-so wins people began to wonder. The loss to BG really isn't as bad as some are making it being that BG has beaten them the past two years, are certainly a top team in the state and can be argued as the top team, only time will tell. St. X is a team that people are trying to figure out at the moment. They should be a top team but (according to those who have watched them play) they just can't seem to click. Again, time will tell.

 

In fairness, even their most vocal fan says they're not who they thought they are. Yet.

 

Bert nailed it. But 75 we got so caught up with how much talent was on the roster and decided to ignore the other factors. Although they aren't exactly where I would like them to be right now, they aren't mediocre by any stretch of the imagination.

This whole thread was great fodder but the problem is most are using the past to predict future performance. So until all 4 teams play each other, this thread might as well be shut down.

You say after watching them you don't believe they're a top team in the state. I beg to differ, although they aren't completely there yet, they would still beat 95% of the teams in the state.

Funny how people keep saying if BG played T's schedule they'd be 0-3....prove it.

If T supporters keep saying they should be #1 then just beat the teams you schedule. It's not BG's fault that T is losing.

Again, it's easy to prove, as I mention before in Addition to playing st x. Try scheduling Trinity, Highlands annually or Face out of state powers. As a matter of fact, BG is very close to Tennessee so there is no reason not to play Ensworth,Brentwood Academy,MBA, or Maryville to name a few. Like Trinity, BG is only required to play it's district games & play whom ever after that. If BG steps up & does this, than there will be no question as to BG being the best in the state. This also will gain them national attention as well, if they are legit!!!

 

Let me end this by saying I've seen BG play & I think they are Damn good team but they haven't proven their worthy of the #1 team in the state because they have few quality wins!!!

They're in 2A in Florida. Being state champs in 2A and being one of the best pretty much implying top 5 or 10 in state is a whole new argument. Most knowledgeable and reasonable posters know that UC supposedly lost A LOT from their squad last year that won a 2A state title in Florida. Like Guru has said before, it was not an impressive win, UC smacked Highlands in the face at the start, but so did Campbell County.

After reading 310 posts on this thread,(this is my first post on this thread,) here is my take. From the outside looking in this is what I see. BG wants respect from H and T and H and T aren't ready to throw in the towel about who is #1 in the state. It seems that X is no longer part of "we are best in the state", due to losing to BG.

 

BG thinks they are #1 in the state due to national rankings and beating a mediocre X team that has new coaches. BG returned a lot of starters from last years team and have lots of talent on both sides of the ball. The win streak is impressive, but doesn't factor in the assessment of this years team, as said many times in this thread. BG has few quality opponents compared to H and T.

 

Trinity has a schedule that is brutal and the two losses they have came from teams nationally ranked. They were both well played games that T could have won but came up a little short. Trinity scrimmaged H , but scrimmages don't count in the records or my book.

 

Highlands plays a pretty tough schedule , but does not play BG, T, or X in the regular season.

 

It makes for a good discussion, but the only way to really know who is best in the state is for H, T, and BG is to play heads up and I don't see that happening.

Actually if you were knowledgable like myself you would know that the UC fla team isn't one of the best teams this year. Go look it up yourself like I did. They aren't in the top 5 nor the top 10 nor the top 20 not even the top 50. They are ranked #71 in Florida this year. So put your bias aside and you'd know this.

Actually T has the only argument to being #1 with BG. Highlands folks are simply jealous that BG had gotten the #1 recognition instead of them. Any thread made about #1 team in the state and the little Brother HHS always has to stick their nose into the convo. They are like the little brother wanting to hang out with the big boys lol.

But that is what kills me. For any other team convincing wins against LexCath and St. X would be quality wins.

Who knew that Cooper and Bowling Green teams would someday grow to be as obnoxious as we fans of T, X and HHS?
