Bardstown bourbon rickhouse collapses

A rickhouse storing and aging around twenty thousand barrels of Barton 1792 bourbon collapsed. Around half of the rickhouse fell to pieces, and current estimates put between 9,000 and 10,000 barrels of bourbon on the ground and/or crushed.

No injuries. EPA is making their way there to evaluate any potential environmental impact due to runoff.

Value of a filled bourbon barrel is around $8K on the low end, and $11K on the high end...so if you figure $9500 per barrel, at 9000 barrels, that's a potential loss of $85.5 million for the Sazerac Company - and that's before any possible fines or reparation costs levied by the EPA. Ouch!

I wonder if the FDA will also show up? Seems like I recall a wreck of a semi with chocolate and they said any of the chocolate on board had to be destroyed regardless if it was damaged. I wonder if the same would be the case on these barrel?

I get the nostalgia of these old distilleries, but at some point you have to replace those buildings for this exact reason.

Some versions of 1792 will be scarce after this.

Sounds like all of he EPA samples taken from the local water sources, including a creek a couple hundred yards away, have come back negative thus far.

The biggest immediate concern is the other half of the rickhouse, which is has a "noticeable lean and bow".

Could find anywhere that reported which house number is was...but this drone footage might help you figure out a little.

I have heard this whole thing is a joke and is not real. Didn't happen.
