Colonels_Wear_Blue
I work with a guy - really good dude - who seems to say every single idiom and expression incorrectly. Some days it's entertaining, others it's annoying....but it's uncanny how consistent he is in screwing them up. On Monday I decided I'd jot down a few days' worth of them and start a thread here. Thought we could see what other folks have heard mis-used, or mis-used themselves. "a real oiled machine" instead of "a well oiled machine" "for all intensive purposes" instead of "for all intents and purposes" "tough road to hoe" instead of "tough row to hoe" "meant that tongue and cheek" instead of "meant that tongue-in-cheek" "got his just deserves" instead of "got his just deserts" "one in the same" instead of "one and the same" ....I've heard him use all of those just since Monday morning.
