By WestDanville - We are officially over 1/4 the of the way through the regular season. Central Kentucky had its first losses from teams in the top 5. Lexington Catholic coming up just short against Covington Catholic and Anderson falling to Mercer. The other 3 teams flexed their muscle and showed that they deserve to stay where they are. The Top 10 1. Frederick Douglass (5A, 3-0) Last Week: Douglass remains undefeated against FCPS opponents in their 40-0 win over Lafayette. The D dominated allowing just 9 yards of offense and spent a lot of time in the Lafayette backfield coming up with 11 tackles... Read More →

1A Notebook (9/11) - Indian Summer

By Voice of Reason - We have all heard that term - Indian Summer. This week sure feels like Indian Summer as the heat cranks its way back up into the 90's. It is heating up on the football fields in 1A also, and I am not talking about the temperature. Teams now have 2 or 3 games under their belts and things are getting interesting. We started this season with the thought that 1A was Pikeville's class to run away with. That thought got a heat check this past week as the Paintsville Tigers put a serious scare into the Panthers, with Pikeville eeking out a 9-8 win. That wasn't the only game where the heat got... BluegrassPreps Mr. Football Watchlist (9/11)

By DevilMayCare - Front Runners Beau Allen (QB, Lexington Catholic) Week 3: In last weekend's most buzzworthy performance, Allen lit up the sky over Park Hills, torching CovCath's defense for a career high 455 yards and 5 touchdowns. This was his eighth career game with at least five touchdown passes. Unfortunately, the Knights were unable to hold on for the win, but they most certainly raised their stock as a contender in 4A. This was a great Mr. Football resume building display from Allen. Season to date: 59/82 for 973 yards and 11 TDs/0 ints. Read More →

Class 6A Notebook 9/10- A Two Horse Race

By Tigerpride94 - 6A: A Two Horse Race. We are now 3 furlongs into a 15-furlong race and two leaders have pulled away from the field with Trinity and Male. Trinity and Male have distanced themselves from the pack by going 3-0 with convincing wins over good competition. This past week Trinity galloped past Moeller (OH) 41-0, and Male blew by the current third horse St. Xavier 51-14 and is currently behind Trinity by a nose. In the 5th furlong, in two weeks, we will see whether Trinity or Male will make a move breaking free from the other. The field of St. Xavier, North Hardin, Ballard, Manual, Fern Creek,... Class 2A Notebook 9/10- A Separation and a Renaissance

By ATLCat - Two Rivers Moving in The Opposite Direction… A watershed is the geographical area where the flow of water literally is defined. Depending on which side of the watershed you are on, you could find the same rainstorm flowing in two opposite directions. Friday night Class 2A may have found a watershed moment between two of its top teams, Somerset and Beechwood, as the two faced off in a battle of Pre-Season Top 3 ranked teams. Beechwood entered the year as the new kid on the block with all the popularity coming with them. The Tigers were the three-time reigning 1A Champs and from reputation... Read More →

BluegrassPreps.com Football Rankings (9/9)

By theguru - Class 1A For those that thought Pikeville was on track to runaway with the Class 1A title, Paintsville proved that the Panthers definitely will need to pack a lunch come November. The Panthers eventually prevailed 9-8 to retain the top spot, but it is now clear that Pikeville will still see their share of challenges, including a game versus Raceland this week. Campbellsville played hard but came up short against 3A Taylor County, they will get another Semi-Finalist from last year when Larue County hosts them. Crittenden County is a team lying in the tall grass, we will all get to see if... Read More →

Class 4A Notebook (9/8): A Statement Loss

By DragonFire - Lexington Catholic has been viewed as a solid team, but a team that is outside the elite tier that features Boyle County and Johnson Central. Last week when I made their matchup against 5A #2 Covington Catholic our 4A Game of the Week, I said if a statement was available to made this week, it was right here. And boy, did Lexington Catholic make that statement. After Covington Catholic took an early 7-0 lead, the air barrage began by Beau Allen. Allen found Bracken for a 12 yard touchdown and then Gohmann for a 19 yard score to put the Knights on top after the first quarter. After... Read More →

3A Notebook: Taylor County Cardinals Alive and Well

By gchs_uk9 - Taylor County Fights Back to Top Cross-town Rival Campbellsville The banner held up by the Taylor County cheerleading squad prior to Friday night's city-county showdown with Class 1A #2 Campbellsville said "2019, the Year the Eagles Went Extinct." For much of the night it looked like the Cardinals of Taylor County were the birds in distress. However, two fourth quarter touchdowns by running back Wes Oliver and a late Carson Watson interception gave Taylor a 29-20 victory and gave notice to Class 3A that the Cardinals will be just as much of a threat in their new class as they were in Class... Class 5A Notebook (9/8): Colonels Avoid Catastrophe In Colossal Catholic Collision

By DevilMayCare - Friday night's encounter between the Catholic school powers of Covington and Lexington boasted two of Kentucky's top college prospects and Mr. Football candidates. It was a matchup of teams featuring both standout individual talent and state championship aspirations. Yet, despite both teams being ranked in the top 5 of their respective classes and LexCath featuring the gifted right arm of Beau Allen, the popular opinion was that Covington Catholic simply had too much for the Knights. The prediction thread poll favored the Colonels by a final tally of 73-7, with most predictions calling for a... Read More →

By Colonels_Wear_Blue - 1) 5A Covington Catholic (2-0) – The Colonels absolutely rolled in their second game of the season, and in similar fashion to the last two seasons, they’ve had a running clock on their opponents in each of their first two games of the season.
