Eagles Looking To Avenge Worst Loss Of The Last Five Years

Records: Pikeville (2-0) | LCA (1-1)

BGP Rankings: Pikeville (#1 in 1A) | LCA (#2 in 2A)

Week 2 Results: Pikeville beat Johnson Central 21-14 | LCA lost to Boyle County 38-47

Series History: LCA leads 4-2

Burning Question: Can these two deliver a game worthy of the names on the front of the jerseys? The previous six meetings have been lesser than the sum of their parts. The winning margins in the series have been 31, 28, 43, 22, 17, and last year's 39 point Pikeville romp. For as great as both programs are, the games haven't exactly been time capsule material, but there's a good chance that changes this year. LCA has gone toe to toe with the top ranked teams in 4A and 5A, proving they can punch well above their weight class. Pikeville just wrestled a grizzly bear and not only lived to tell about it, but they have the head mounted on their wall. The Eagles got blown out in Pikeville last year with Blake Birchfield running wild. Cutter Boley threw for over 400 yards and three scores, but was picked off three times in defeat, closely mirroring his numbers from the loss to Boyle County.

I assume worse loss in 5 years is referencing the 9 point loss, that’s pretty wicked.

Worst loss in five years was the 39 point beat down to Pikeville last year. Largest margin of defeat, anyway.

No love for Pikeville among the voters in here. It's 20-0 LCA.

I think so many people are caught up in Cutter Boley to UK that they have a big LCA bias in their view.

calpreps.com actually has Pikeville projected to win this game by one point.

VOR, I like you bc you tell DaTruth...CB is an awesome awesome QB and I'm so glad he is going to UK but you still have to call it like it is...no defense and too many interceptions is not a good recipe for winning games and especially championship. I do think LCA will win this one..infact they'd better win before the other top three 2A teams conclude they're just a nice show on turf but beatable....man love BGP...

I have not seen Pikeville, but have seen LCA.  They are for real.  Conditioning cost them as much as anything in the Boyle game.  Some of their players were spent in the second half and several went down with cramps.  Still very tough.  Good size and many athletes.  I really think they bounce back and beat Pikeville by two touchdowns.

I've watched both of LCA's games so far...I'm not sure if their defense is as bad as everyone seems to think. I'm pretty sure Boyle and Bowling Green will put big numbers up on anyone they play this year.

In my opinion this is the most interesting game of the week. If LCA rolls then I think Mayfield and Beechwood could be in trouble this year. If Pikeville wins or it's very close, then 2A is definitely wide open at the top.

Pikeville is running through 1A regardless of this outcome.

I think it's more the first two weeks than the UK connection. As strong as Pikeville is, I think most see them as not quite as good as Boyle or Bowling Green.

There is no credibility to calpreps this early in the year. As the year progresses it gets more accurate as the current year data is inputted. At this point they are almost completely going off of last year.

Just for kicks I've used them for the pick em the last two weeks. Look at my picks, they have barely gotten 50% of the games correct.
