I was not at the game so I don't know the what went on with the NCC Parent. If he was yelling profanities or was abusive to a player he should be tossed. However in the past year I have personally seen 3 games where refererees get into arguments with fans. In 2 of three situations I know profanity or player abuse was not involved. It bothers me the officials even recognize the fans comments in such cases. Coach's, Players, managers or anyone "officially" associated with the school is subject to the Ref's control. However a fan yelling "that's Terrible, your awful" should not even phase a referree. In my opinion recognizing the "fan" empowers them and in many cases gives them exactly what they want, ATTENTION! I recognize being an official is a very tough job and I am thankful that the vast majority do a great job and are there for the right reasons. However, I think there are a few who have rabbit ears, and it ends up distracting them from doing the job they are there for. If the fan is really disruptive, go to the gym officials and have them take care of the situation, don't get into a argument during the middle of the game. Again I was not at the game, have no idea who the official or the parent was, but I do think there are better ways to handle the situation then to get into a shouting match with a fan.

What about RB coach Jason Moore? He is a Holmes and TMC grad, is known and respected by the kids. It would be a big step, but I think he would be a great choice!

Let's also remember that JC's last request was to be moved to 4A, instead of 5A prior to the re-alignment. Funny how now moving to 5A is all of the sudden a good idea.

Well put, that seems to be a what is missing the last couple weeks. Early in the year, when no one was giving them any credence they played with a chip on their shoulder. Now it seems they get down, and there isn't another gear to go to. I think using Andrew Schult a little more might help this situation. He seems to always play like everything is on the line. Others can play that way, but don't seem to do it night in night out.

Coach Brossart had success at Finneytown, a very similar demographic to Holmes. Depending on whether he wants to be a HC or not, he could be a good fit. His offensive system could be very potent with the type of athletes that Holmes produces year in and year out.

La Salle loses at least 4 D1 players, and at least 3 others who are very close (D2, D1 aa). They will be good again next year, but won't compete for the GCL South Title and a 3 seed in South West Ohio Division 1 as they did this year.

Not sure if the horn sounded or not, but I can tell the crew struggled all night long. Not sure if it had any bearing on the outcome of the game, but it made it difficult to watch at times. They had several "changed" overruled calls, a couple inadvertant whistles. I recognize everyone has an off night, it's uncommon to see a night when 2 veterans (maybe 3) were as out of synch as they were on Saturday.

We don't know how well AC would do in the SEC. He looked good in the brief time I saw him at ND but I didn't see a star in the making either. I am not sure what your definition of Star is, but Collinsworth had a fantastic Freshman season at ND. If by star, you mean someone who will play on Sundays, I would agree I think it would be a stretch to predict Collinsworth being drafted at this point. However, they love him at ND. The Coaches, the other players and the fans in general are very happy with young Mr. Collinsworth. He played on almost every special team as a Freshman. Only 2 other Freshmen played on as many special teams as he did. Only 3 or 4 other freshman played a bigger role the team over all, and most of those were because of injury. I am not a Highlands fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I am an ND fan, and I can tell you I am very happy to have Collinsworth back for 3 more years!

CovCath didn't play well but pulled out the victory. I was beyond shocked that the Colonels didn't take more advantage of the size mis-match. On more than one occassion both Connelly and Baker had a 5 or 6 inch advantage on their defenders at the same time. Why they didn't more take advantage of those situations was anyone's guess. While Jake is the undisputed scoring leader of the team, I really felt not getting the ball to Connelly and Baker in the low post more often was a huge mistake. I thought for sure they would move Jake to the high post (where he is still a definite scoring threat) and move Cubby and Baker to the low post creating a huge advantage down low. I was very impressed by the gutsy play of Crowley, but was equally disappointed in the frequency that the Colonels let him wide open for a 3. He was their only legitimate scoring threat, I would have forced someone else to beat me. Just so I don't seem to negative, I continue to be impressed by the play of Maschinot at point. With the exception of one ill advisded drive to the hoop, I thought he played an outstanding game. While Riedinger didn't play bad if he finds he regains his 3 point stroke it will take this team to a whole new level. This team is very fun to watch even on off nights because of their "team" attitude and the way they seem to enjoy playing together.

How long have Kennedy and Franzen been out?

I am a believer that guards and specifically PG's are the key to consistent success at the HS level. Right now Covcath is getting great guard play from Maschinot, Riedinger, Cleves and Massie. Having said that I can not remember a 9th region team that alters shots like the big's from CovCath do. Baker, Connelly, Thelen and Hayden are playing fantastic help defense. So even when one of the guards gets beat, the inside guys are making it miserable for the player driving to the basket. The team chemistry on the CovCath team is probably the most enjoyable part of watching them play. They are very unselfish on offensive with some of the best passing and assist I have seen at CovCath in years. Last night several of the plays were globe trotteresque in the ball movement and no look passes.

Based on the way the rule is written, this is what I expected. How did Mcclendon from HC get ok'd after his transfer from Holmes?

Exams will be over, Christmas break will have begun the Crazies will be in rare form. Should be a fun game to watch, I can't wait!

I think Connelly from CovCath meets all of the criteria as well. He is by far the best I have seen at running the fade. His leaping ability is 2nd to none. Van Sant, Bovard, Connelly and Sutton, and pretty good legacy of WR's in the past 5 years at CovCath.

I believe that the commitment needed to play any of the big 3 HS sports at the highest level is significantly more than it was 25 or even 10 years ago. Between AAU and HS Basketball is at least an 11 month sport. Football is the same way. Baseball is not quite as demanding but it is getting close. I think the time and energy commitment is just too much for many of the kids. When they become sophomores and Juniors, I think they begin to "get Burned out" on the non-stop pace of training/competing. Many choose the sport they love the best, and many times that is influenced by either their ability in that sport or that sports success at their HS. At Highlands Football is King and always will be. So as a result I think you see more kids choosing to play football over the other sports. I think this is especially true if you are a very good football player, who plays or will play a ton. Especially if in the 2nd sport you are a role player or a non-starter. I think the exception to this rule are the smaller schools, where they don't have enough "top notch" athletes to have that situation. Quite honestly over the past 10 years the only school that has been consistenly a state champion contender in Football and a real threat to win the Region in Basketball and Baseball is NewCath. They seem to somehow keep those players playing multiple sports.

No attempt here to start anything. It was an honest question. I had heard his family moved to Ft. Mitchell, so I ask. I wouldn't care where he lives, I think kids should be able to attend wherever they feel suits them best.

What type of athlete his he? Someone told me that they had moved to Ft. Mitchel is that true, and if so is he going to play for Beechwood or Highlands?

Is next year the year Merrill Hodge's boy will be a freshman?

Play the schedule they do and see how many will have winning seasons. Each year the schedule has had Highlands, La Salle, Ryle, LexCath along with a playoff loss to either JC or Highlands. Include a few visits to Elder and one to Cardinal Mooney, and there are only a few (Highlands being one) in 4A or 5A who would have had better records. Argue if you want that CovCath isn't as good as it has been in the past, but don't use the record as the main reason. Most schools don't play similar competition so comparing just records is a poor barometer.

Not trying to stir the pot here, but how is Mcclendon eligible to play at HC this year? Didn't he play some varsity minutes for Holmes last year? I truly am not trying to cause a controversy I am simply surprised that a kid transferring from a Public HS to a Private school less than 3 miles apart was ruled eligible by the KHSAA.

Now that the season is over can anyone say what happened to Mr. Sullivan the LB? I saw him play early in the year, and I believe for a few plays against CovCath, but haven't seen or heard anything from him since. I am hoping whatever the injury it is not too severe.

The 2 senior guards of Mashinot and Riedinger are the most obvious candidates. Brett needs to be confident in his outside shot, when he plays with confidence he can be a real threat. When he is tentative about shooting the 3 early, he never seems to get in the groove. It' s early in the season, I have great confidence that Brett will still be the consistent outside threat. Maschinot is a great athelete who needs to use his speed and quickness to drive to the basket. He is not a great outside threat, but needs to take that shot when left open as well. From the reports I heard of the game, Connor may have been a little under the weather. I heard he looked tired and out of breath during the game. I for one think that Clint Massie will also be major contributor from the guard position. Clint does a nice job of directing the team, and has enough of an outside shot and enough of slashing game to be effective doing both. The key for the Colonels will be eliminating the costly turnovers. With the size they will have up front, it's critical that they get shots up and at least give their bigs a chance to get rebounds. When you don't take a shot, it's tough to get a rebound.
