What Senior players have been participating? How has the team done so far?

Just curious what was his shuttle time at the UC camp? That to me is a much better assesment of a RB's quickness, which I think is as important as a 40 time. Much of a good 40 time is attributed to the start and technique. There is track fast, and there is Football fast. I'll take football fast everytime. I don't know where or at what position he will end up in college, but I do know he is going to be one of the best HS Rb's in the NKY area for the next two years. If he continues to improve he will end up in the discussion of top 5 RB's in NKy Ever!

I hadn't been to the last couple All star games, so I can't comment on those. However, I was very impressed by the crowd, the overall play on the field and the enthusiasm of the players. It was a very enjoyable game to watch. Obviously teams/players weren't in mid-season form in any way shape or form, but their energy and excitement was. As others have mentioned Buckler was impressive and it was great seeing Miles run a few more times. Definitely worth the $5 admission. Only problem is I now have serious football fever, and I will have to wait until August 13th to even see a scrimmage!

I know of Leonard and DeMatteo (is he for sure returning to football?) I am not familiar with Cohorn. Did he play last year and what year is he? Did he play peewee ball in Boone Co? If those three are all in the 4.6 - 4.7 range Dixie will have a very potent receiving corps. I really like the way Leonard plays the game. I predict he will be one of the best WR's in NKY this year.

I guess the old joke about Ky can be modified to be about NKY. NKY home of Fast women and pretty horses. Seriously congratulations to all three teams, I have seen both the NewCath and the Campbell Co girls teams, and they are indeed an impressive well coached. Great job ladies, a memory to last a lifetime!

CovCath has a program at the school that helps kids not from the "traditional" schools to assimilate into the school and its traditions. It's called "New to the Blue" and I have heard very good things about it. As for the football team, I don't think it will be any different than how it is for Beechwood, NewCath and Highlands when kids join the program from places other than where the majority of the kids are from. What type of athletes are the kids in question?

Campbell Co lost a good one in Harris. I had heard he might end up in Ft. Thomas, but I know the Camels coaching staff felt good about him playing in Alexandria. If the Birds are as good as advertised, then those hoping that the graduation of the class of 2010 would bring them back to the pack a bit, maybe very disappointed. If this Freshmen class is another stellar class, that will make 3 in a row for the Bluebirds.

No doubt Zeke is one of the best incoming Junior prospects in the state. To paraphrase an old coach of mine, you can't coach 'em to be 6'5". Zeke definitely has the physical attributes and the bloodlines to be an outstanding High School and College player. Whether he is the best Junior QB in the state, only time will tell. I think there might be a young man in Ft. Thomas who currently would have a leg up in that category based on what they have accomplished at the varsity level so far. I think it's key to remember that more HS QB's end up playing a different position in College than any other position. If Zeke turns out to be a good decision maker and leader at Qb, then I think he could be a very good College QB. If he doesn't excel in those areas, I feel very confident in saying that Zeke could be a very good college player either at TE or perhaps DE. Thus when he gets all of the offers from D1 schools they know he can also play other postions if things don't pan out at QB. That is something I don't think Mr. Toweles necessarily has. He may be the better HS QB right now, but his options to play other positions may not be as great as those of Zeke.

I would think Nienabor would be in the mix as well.

Saw Schaeffer from CovCath the other day. He definitely looks the part of a LB. My guess is he is about 215 or 220. If he is still running in the 4.7 range, he could be a real force on the defense thise year.

I prefer the molded cleats on the turf fields. Especially for practice, I think they are easier on the kids feet. On the newer fields SK and Ryle the screw in cleats are fine. On the older surfaces like Highlands and CovCath, I don't like the screw in cleats, and the way the grab the turf.

Definitely a special athlete. Football is probably the only sport I can not see Connor excelling at. Not sure he could take the physical pounding. If he can get healthy for the LJ, and Bowdy Jumps like he has, add Connelly and Ruh in the High Jump and CovCath has another solid block of points. Add in Erpenbeck, and an oncoming Deglow and I think you are going to have a very exciting state tourn in 2a Track and field.

I know that 1982 it was Belleveue (Tarvin p) vs Newport (Atkins or Stamm) for the District Championship. I don't know if that was the last time or not, but I do know it has been a while. Although Highlands was not part of the District back then.

How many runs did Warning end up giving up? Who did CovCath bring into relieve him? I won't be able to listen to the game until later, (blocked by works Firewall). Congrats to Rob Broering and the entire HC fan base. I'll be rooting you on, until you plan the Colonels again:)

I don't think so. I don't think he is originally from this area. I believe he attended Liberty University though.

That's too bad. Connor seems to be having a lot of injuries this year. Didn't he miss a good portion of the bball season as well? Was that the same ankle he is having issues with now? Connor is a fantastic natural athlete. He could have played soccer and baseball with much success as well. Hopefully he dedicates himself to a great training regiment during the summer and fall. He needs some quality time in the weight room to help strengthen his body to take his God given ability to the next level. I hope he is healthy enough to both run and Jump in the regionals. CovCath will really need his LJ points to make another run at state.

Isn't Fuller more of a fastball Pitcher? If so, I don't think he will pitch. Kyle is a nice player, who I think will be a dominate pitcher by the time he graduates, however, I don't think he is there yet. I agree with Clyde I think you will see Broering and/or Johnson. Broering had a lot of success in his last game against CovCath. CovCath traditionally doesn't do as well against off speed pitchers. Should be a good game.

How many senior's does NewCath Graduate? Tough way to end the year. One bad defensive inning and the whole thing can unravel.

He is not the everyday catcher. He may not be the everyday catcher next year. I have no skin in this game, my only "family" relationship is that Coach Krumps cut my nephew, who I thought was a pretty decent ballplayer. No one but a select few know what Coach Krumps actually said to Dylan so I will not argue that point. I also will not argue that Coach K is a good communicator with parents, that is not his Strong suit. However, what I will argue is that Coach K doesn't care 1 little bit about a kids last name. He definitely has a certain mold in mind when it comes to the type of players he chooses. He also is very unbending when it comes to the attitude/work ethic he requires from his players. He sits kids and/or doesn't play kids for a variety of reasons, none has to do with their last name. If a kids last name was the litmus test why did he play a sophomore on varsity to begin with? Did his last name change from the month before when he played the kid in a key tourn game?

She is a fantastic lady. She is loved by Alumni, Students and Parents alike. I know many of the opposing fans who look forward to the CovCath game just to say hello... and of course to enjoy the fantastic Gruber Burger!

I think Bir's arm is not an issue. I think the key is whether or not he can run enough to make the offense click. He doesn't have to be Brayden Erpenbeck, but he definitely needs to be enough of a threat to keep defenses honest. If he can pull it down and run 8 -10 times a game, I think he could be pretty good, and so could the Colonels.

Congrats to Coach Meyerhoff that is a very impressive streak. I may not be the best judge, because I don't see as much HS baseball as I used to, but right now I would have to say that Coach Meyerhoff has to be one of the top (if not the top) 3 HS coaches in NKY. Every year he adjust to the talent he has and puts out a very competitive team.

I think the biggest question is who is at QB. In Coach Wirth's offense the QB is critical to making it work. I think there are 3 potential candidates, each with positives and negatives. It will be interesting as to who wins that battle.

I thought Tom Spritzkey was Dixie's AD. Has he stepped down?

Not sure how many games you attended last year, but I thought the defense played pretty fast last year. They probably didn't fight off blocks like they needed, but I don't think speed was the major problem. Don't get me wrong they weren't has fast as Highlands, but I thought overall they were above average. Having said that, I think this year's team will be significantly faster than last. Primarily I believe the LB's will play much faster. Only time will tell if they are as fast as they need to be, but I feel confident you will see a fast attacking defense in 2010.
