NewCath to big to strong for OC.

How much do officials make for Varsity HS games these days? I would think with the economy the way it is you would see the overall level improve with a bigger pool to draw from.

I too find it hard to believe that Varsity QB's are not taught to read the coverages. I think it is up to the coach to tailor the reads to the QB's experience. Most kids however can be taught to make pre-snap reads based on the alignment of the defense. I also think most HS kids can then make at least one read post snap to determine which of the recievers becomes primary reciever. When you start talking about hot reads and 3rd and 4th options, now you are usually talking about QB's with both a strong football IQ and a more sophisticated passing attack. Many "run first" teams passing game is based solely on play action and physical mis-matches.

I'm confused the game is on Tuesday November 30th correct?

I was told that Coach Styer wanted to spend more time with his wife and daughters. If you know Troy, that has always been a struggle for him. He loved coaching football, but the time it took away from his wife and especially his daughters was very difficult for him. Congrats to Coach Styer and the entire Campbell County program. They have made great strides under Coach Styer's watch.

why the coach Schneider picture? Did he fail you in English? Why bring up a Mediocre CovCath team that was 6 inches from taking the Birds to OT? Why not focus on tonight's game IMO JC panicked in the 4th quarter wasting the TO. Had they kept the TO, they could have continued the power running game with Jude which finally got going in the 4th. Congrats to the Birds they continue to find ways to win.

I would expect Coach Wagner to bring significantly more pressure in this game. I think Jasper and Fuller are very good receivers, but I think they are best on deep passes. Arlinghaus is not a bad runner, but he is much more dangerous as a thrower. If they can force him to run, I think that will be an advantage for NewCath. On the flip side you want to keep Hitghchew in the pocket. He is much more dangerous as a passer and a runner outside of the pocket. I predict a close game thru 3 quarters with NewCath pulling away in the 4th. Newcath 38 HC 21.

Of this years impact players the only one who might have considered CovCath as an option would be Jasper. Arlinghaus, Fuller were going to HC whether or not Football was there. I do think HC football has had an affect on CovCath, but I don't think it has been major. If they put together 2 or 3 really successful years it could start to have an affect. Before any ask, I would consider Regional championships and or state final appearances as REALLY successful years. I think the same goes for Brossart and NewCath.

I wasn't kidding, I was just trying to describe the type of runner Mr. Jude reminds me of. He definitely isn't as big or as powerful as Elliot, but if you don't square up and wrap up, he'll break the tackle. He may not be as elusive as Kramer, but he is every bit as quick and fast carrying the ball. I will say his balance is what impressed me the most. I am real curious to see what colleges think of Mr. Jude. As someone mentioned he is the #1 rated wrestler at 160 lb's in the state. My guess is that if Mr. Jude focused on football, and put on about 20 lbs ( which he could easily do), he would garner some serious D1 interest, if he hasn't already. My guess is that he weighs somewhere around 170 -175. He might not have some of the "metrics" that D1 colleges look for, but I can guarantee that he is an outstanding High school football player.

As I stated on another thread. I have gone from being one of the "Boys of Fall", now I'm one of the "Old men who know it all".

Do I think they could have tried other defensive adjustments in the 2nd half? Yes I do. Do I blame the coach's for the loss no I don't. It's not like they were out schemed on defense, they were simply outmanned. My point was that sometimes you are outmanned, and you have to get Creative to force the action. I also said in the JC/CCH thread that I thought that Coach Wirth was the right guy for the job. Of the 3 things I mentioned that CovCath didn't overcome, only the onsides Kick did I see as a "bad break". I haven't watched the film, but live it sure appeared that a JC player touched the ball at about the 48 or 49 yard line. The other two items were in CovCath's control. I say this because I don't want to diminish what JC accomplished last Friday, by implying that "bad breaks' caused CovCath to lose. My intent is that those 3 items together in relative quick succession changed the momentum so much that CovCath could not recover quickly enough to win the game.

Having seen CovCath Play against Ryle, La Salle, Beechwood, NewCath, Johnson Central and Highlands, Jude is by far the best back they have faced. His ability to slip tackles and his balance are as good as any I have seen in HS. Having said that his O-line and lead blockers are what make the JC offense go. Honestly Highlands LB's are much better than CovCath's, so I would envision the running lanes being a bit tighter for Mr. Jude this Friday. I think he will have a strong rushing total, but he won't find himself 4 - 6 yards past the LOS before he gets hit, like he did last week. If you want a description JJ Jude's style I would say it's similar to former Bird RB Kramer, with a bit of Travis Elliot mixed in.

I agree that this season was not what it could have been. The blow out loss to Ryle and La Salle, while explainable were a disappointment. The loss to NewCath was a disappointment. The loss to Highlands was also a disappoinment, because losing to them is always disappointing in Park Hills. On the positive side the team got better, never gave up and kept the program moving forward. The loss to Johnson Central was a real kick to the stomach, because unlike the past 2 years they had every opportunity to win this year but could not get over the dropped TD, the loss of Ritter and the onside kick. Had only 2 of those 3 things happened, I think they still win the game, but momentum in HS football is a huge factor. To summarize the season had unfullfilled goals, but the progress made was significant. All involved want and expect more, but realize that the program is headed in the right direction. Do we want it to happen faster, yes. Is anyone who counts calling for Coach Wirth's head ABSOLUTELY not!

Coach Wirth has improved the team and the program each of the past 2 years. Is it where CovCath fans want or expect it to be? NO. Are there disgruntled parents and players? yes there are. Are there disgruntled parents at Beechwood, Ryle, Highlands etc. yes there are. Are the administration and boosters of CovCath doubting or losing faith in Coach Wirth? No CovCath expectations are very high, so there will always be those who are unhappy with a 6-6 season, including Coach Wirth. Do the vast majority of CovCath faithful feel things are heading in the right direction, I would say yes.

I think Coach Wirth is the right guy to bring CovCath back to where it belongs. I think he has taken strides each year to make the team and the program better. So if you took my comment to mean anything negative about Coach Wirth, that is definitely not what I meant.

Towles or no Towles Highlands will score a lot of points against JC. Their defense is by far their glaring weakness. They are bad against the pass, but not much better against the run. Unless Highlands turns it over 3 or 4 times, they will put up 35 -40 on JC. As for the offense, when I hear a team called one dimensional, I think of run only or pass only. JC is Jude only! I don't mean to slight the line, FB and Slot back who are the reason for Jude's success, because they are very good. JC's power running game is better than Ryle's, NewCath or La Salle. However when a DC like Weinrich knows what the opponent is going to do 90% of the time I believe he can find a way to keep them from scoring at least 1 out of 4 possessions. If Highlands can do that, they will win the game.

No argument there. The most disturbing thing is that they didn't try anything different they ran 5 or 6 man line, that was the only "adjustment". They didn't seem to attack at all, just sit back and catch. A problem that has to been evident since the Ryle game.

Losing Ritter was key in two areas. One he would have been moved up as an extra LB. He is the emotional leader of the defense. He elevates the players around him. CovCath lost Ritter for the 2nd half of the Ryle game, 2nd Half of NCC, all of the La Salle game and for 2 1/2 quarters of the JC game. All of those game saw Covcath's defense have a huge emotional let down in his abscence. Something no one has mentioned is the onside kick which was touched at 8 yards by a JC player, it completely changed the game. CovCath should have had the ball at the JC 48. Instead JC gets the ball at the 50, and the rest is history.

If the Highlands players turn on each other like the posters, I like Dixie's chances a whole lot better If Gold, Compton and Sullivan are healthy I think Highlands will win a closer ball game than the 1st one, but still by a comfortable margin. If any or all are not available it could be decided late in the 4th quarter. I don't think you will see Pike on Defense very much. Maybe 10 -15 plays total the entire game. If Dixie can play even in the Special teams battles, I like their chances. However, that very seldom happens with a Highlands team. They almost always score or set up a score with thier ST's.

The Elder game will be a boom for the Ft. Thomas community economy. Especially the bars and Resteraunts. Not only do the Panther faithful travel, they travel with a big time hunger and thirst!

I have heard they are not running the Belly option as much as in years past is that true? I know that Hall, Bratton and Jude are very very good. But I also think that the option aspect is a big part of the reason teams from NKY have trouble with them. If they have gone to a more power I look, I think that bodes well for CovCath!

Congrats to the Birds, that is one very impressive schedule. I applaud Coach Mueller for taking the schedule up a notch. Not sure what Boyle, or Mason Ohio have coming back, but those are the type of programs that are always great competition. The Travel is still reasonable, so the respective schools fan base will be able to watch the game without having to take a vacation day.

I was really impressed by some of their d-lineman. They rushed the passer as well as anyone CovCath has faced this year. I think heading into the game CovCath had given up a total of 6 or 7 sacks on the year. Ashland was able to get 4 on Saturday. Fans, coaches and players were all very gracious and classy individuals. I will for now on be a fan of the Ashland program, and hope they have success on and off the field (except for when they play the Colonels).

Deceiving score Dixie dominated the 3rd quarter. They were up 42-7 heading into the 4th, when they called off the dogs. Pike was on tonight. I think the Highlands game will be a very good game next week.
