As the overall year at NewCath shows, the class of 2011 was a very talented class. Perhaps the best since 1975 when they won 5 regional championships. Having said that I think this years schedule is a very managable one. I see problems for them with Dixie, Sk and Beechwood. My guess is they will probably go 1-2 against that group. McNick I am not as familiar with, but what I hear is that they lost as much or more than NewCath did with their senior class. I would agree if they go 8-2 or even 7-3 they will be one of the favorites in 2a. I don't think Campbell or Holmes will be as good as they were last year so I think they can definitely have that type of record when all is said and done.

That is a very impressive number. Having watched him play football, I did not realize he was that quick. I knew he had good speed, but nearly 60 stolen bases is a huge number. I personally think base stealing at all levels of Baseball is somewhat of a lost art. To see a youngman in today's game steal almost 60 bases is outstanding.

Is this one a question or is it the age thing again ?

I guess everyone's experiences are different. I find the vast majority of HC fans to be great fans. Passionate about their team, with out being nasty or over the top. They had the opportunity after beating CovCath in the seeding game, and earlier in the year when the broke the basketball losing streak. On both occasions they were very complimentary of CovCath's team, and were not boastful or arrogant in any way.

What happened to the previous coach? I didn't know he had left the program. How many years was he there? Seiple definitely has a strong resume. Is he also teaching at the school? Good luck to Coach Seiple and to Bracken county!

The last two #1's in the Enquirer poll are both eliminated.

Maile was impressive to get the save. I don't think Serverson had his best stuff, but he gutted it out and pitched a very courageous 6 innings. I am very impressed by Tiberi (Sp) and Callery from HC. They have a great core of players coming back next season.

I think he can play RB for WKU. He runs hard and has a great burst. He is not very elusive, which may change has he faces different size and speed of defenders at the next level. His running style is similar to a Hershel Walker (not comparing him just the style). As far a defense, I think he could be an outstanding LB. In fact I thought if he were going to a UK, UC or a Big 10 school that is where he would have found himself. The young man is a physical specimen it will be fun to watch him play his senior year.

Absolutely ridiculous to DQ a kid from a chance at state because of the color of stitching. If it was violation it should be pointed out PRIOR to the event. If they then refuse to change, then they can DQ them. I think it is a shame that these type of incidents take away from the intent of what HS sports should be. I understand that it is the rule, but it makes no sense as to why an non-competitive advantage issue like stitching color should prevent someone from competing in a state championship. Could you imagine if football, basketball or Baseball allowed the contest to end, then appeal to the officials about the helmet or the elbow pad or whatever the minutia was and have the outcome reversed? Why is this allowed in track, it makes absolutely no sense.

There defense has been very good the last two years. I know that much of that can be attributed to Coach Wolfe, but I think this past year's senior class was a very good one. I am sure they will be a top caliber team in NKY again, but I am not so sure they can just "replace" many of the graduating seniors. I think the offense will miss Mullins more than they realize as well.

My guess is that the side job they mentioned He has owned a company that distributes carbon dioxide for fountain beverage systems. As owner-president, he has become responsible for all financial aspects of the company. The company has over 700 customers in Ohio and Pennsylvania Goes a long way in allowing him to survive on the salary he recieves from the private schools he teaches at. I know of a couple of coaches who have a side career that supplements their teaching/coaching salary.

This one has really amazed me. First no one could imagine anyone of quality wanting this horrible job because of pay, pension and parental disruption to the program. Now they hire a quality candidate, and there is talk of prep school, and an influx of transfers and recruits. Even if the new coach aspires to move CovCath to the ranks of a prep school, even if Bob Rowe has that vision (which he doesn't), the Diocese of Covington and the Bishop definitely do not have that in their plans. They in no way shape or form want CovCath or any other of their schools to turn into a Prep school in the fashion of Oak Hills or even St. Anthony's. So unless a new Bishop has taken over and Fired Mike Clines and the entire education administration any talk of sport based Prep Schools is strictly a fantasy. As far as the pay for the new Coach. Even if he is paid at the highest level available in the Diocesen structure, he will make less money teaching and coaching than that of a JV Head coach who also teaches at any of the many public schools in the area.

What are the ages of his kids?

I think this is a key game for CovCath. They have really struggled the past few weeks. They need a boost of confidence that a win over a worthy rival can give you. As mentioned in another post, confidence in yourself is huge in how athletes perform. If CovCath can get their bats going, and beat Dixie, it could get them out of their funk and headed in the right direction for the post season.

Last year CovCath played against qb's that will go to Harvard, Miami, Oh, Auburn, UC, UK and potentially one more that will play at the next level. Of all of those QB's and there are obviously some vey good ones, I thought Bolin was the best at reading keys and quickly moving down his progressions. He wasn't on the same level athletically as some of the other QB's, but he was also only a sophomore. I think he has the potential to be very special by the time he moves to the next level.

I have to ask why pitch Severson? How many lefties does BW have in their starting lineup? I thought that Shumate was the scheduled starter. I think CovCath is in serious trouble. They are struggling as a team at the plate. When that happens, kids start to press, they start trying to hit 3 run hr's instead of getting singles and walks. Confidence is amazing thing, play with it and it elevates your game, with out it you play way below your capabilities. I think that is what the great coach's are best at. They get their teams to play with confidence with out being complacent. Coach Myeroff seems to be a master at that.

Congrats to Adam, I hope he does well. It is my understanding Adam has no desire to try the two sport option in college. I would think at $38,000 a year at school with the academic challenges that Hanover presents, he will focus on his studies. Since Hanover is D3 they can only offer academic and need based aid and scholarships. So to maintain the academic scholarships you need to maintain a 3.0 or 3.2 depending upon the scholarship. The time commitment for college football is immense, adding an equally demanding baseball schedule would be very daunting. I know there are those who have been able to do it, but they are quite the exception to the rule.

Just curious is it common for schools to only send their girls team and not their boys team? I noticed that the Dixie girls participated but not the Dixie boys. I just found that odd. Elliot posting an 11.20 in the 100 meters is pretty strong. As was the Bray kid from Lloyd jumping a 6'9" in the High jump.

What has happened to the Colonels? They seem like they haven't played consistently well in about 10 days. I wasn't at the game and don't know any details, so maybe there is a good explanation for the performance. I am concerned that their bats are struggling right now. They have several very nice pitchers but no dominate ace like in years past. It makes the inconsistency of the offensive a little more concerning. It's quite likely they will play Beechwood or Holy Cross in the opening game of the district. Hopefully they can right the ship and get the bats going in time for the post season.

Zeke Pike comes in as a 4 star at # 72, and then 2 players from Taft High School in Cincy. Adolphus Washington at #86 and Dwayne Stanford at #93. Obviously Zeke was not a big surprise, but having two players from the same High School in Cincy not named Moeller, Colrain or St. X is a big surprise to me. I had no idea Taft had two players of that caliber. I wonder how long before the rumor of a transfer to a NKy football Powerhouse happens.:lol:

This week Holy Cross played like I thought they would. When do they play Beechwood, that game could have huge implications.

Isn't it a bit early for Senior day? Was this their last home game?

Kyle Bolin has added Notre Dame to a list of other interested schools like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami (Ohio), Ole Miss, North Carolina and Tennessee. It sounds like if an offer is given it might be hard for Bolin to turn down. He is quoted as saying both he and his Mom love the idea of playing at ND.

I agree on the defensive part. However if you are talking best all around, I think Lankheit should be in the discussion as well.
