  1. I am admittedly prejudice on this but I am absolutely shocked that Sam Burchell is not mentioned in any of the state Polls at LB. I'm not saying he should have been 1st team, and I haven't seen all the players on the list. This I can tell you, talk to anyone of O-coordinators that played against CovCath and have them tell you what LB's they coached against that are better. My guess is that list is extremely short.
  2. I have got to believe the list is quite short. Dan Wagner and Sam Beiting are by far the most likely choices. I think it would be a Slam dunk of Dan Wagner, were he able to be in the building. It is my understanding that he is a year away from qualifying for Retirement from the State. It is also my understanding that Sam Beiting is moving toward his administrator degree. If those two things are true, (not positive just what I was told)... How about this scendario. Just as Carl Foster came back to "fill the gap" as Principal for a year or two... Would NewCath consider naming Bob Schneider as the "interim" Head Coach for a year, allowing Coach Wagner to fullfill his year under the Public School system and then be named Head coach for the 2014 year? Sam Beiting would be named the new Principal in 2014 as well. Thus opening up a teaching position at the School allowing Coach Wagner to teach at NewCath and "double dip". By doing so 2013 has continuity keeping the Staff in place, with the obvious exception of Coach Eviston. Coach Schneider would step in as HC, in a very similar fashion as he was back in 2010. Same O-coordinator (Dave Schneider) and same d-coordinator (Dan Wagner). Not saying this is likely but an interesting possibility. Heck it worked out pretty well for K-State when their B. Schneider came back out of retirement. No matter what I think the HC on the hill in 2014 will come from either Dan Wagner or Sam Beiting, with Coach Wagner being the odds on favorite!
  3. ND basketball is the perennial spoiler team. Take away a few years under Digger, and they have never been a top tier bball program. Part of the enjoyment back in the 70's and 80's when entertainment options for students at Notre Dame were not as plentiful as they are now (no xbox, limited cable tv, no internet etc) was to blow off steam at basketball games especially when highly ranked teams came to town. Obviously the famous upset of UCLA stands out, but ND has a pretty impressive record at home against higher ranked teams. The ND campus is pretty electric right now with the #1 ranking in football and Heisman hype surround Manti T'eo. Mike Bray saw an opportunity to take advantage of energy and hyped this game up big time. You have the black out and the accompaning black uniforms, Manti being interviewed and escorted around all night. ND's bball team has very little depth, and can only play a certain style. If you get them in a run and gun game, they are in deep trouble. Bray/ND needed a victory like this to keep the fan base energized and the home court advantage they will need to compete in the Big East. Kentucky is at the top of the mountain in College bball, beating them anytime is a big deal for most programs. Add in the hype created for the game and you have the resulting rushing of the court. UK and their fan base should be proud that they are back at the level where beating them in an other wise meaningless game is such a big deal to a school like ND.
  4. Don't know the theme, I was hoping for "Turtleman call of the wild" as a candidate, but I doubt that would be allowed.
  5. NCC is playing very well right now, but if one of the other teams has a very balanced offense and solid run defense Newcath could have issues. Their defense does an incredible job of taking away either the pass or the run. In games where the other team has been very one dimensional (ie. Beechwood) they find a way to take away your #1 weapon. It's quite often that teams in 2a outside of NKY are very good run teams, and occassionally very good passing teams. Coach Wagner does a great job of taking away those teams #1 threat. If someone is very balanced I could see NewCath having an issue with that match up. Don't know enough about their competition past the 3rd round to know if that is the case or not.
  6. To be specifc it was comments made by the son then followed up by an equally offensive comment from the father that sent Bob off. You are right though Schneider did lose it, and vowed to never play Highlands/Duffy again.
  7. Barker is an impressive HS player, big strong with good running instincts. Having said that I think he is the 2nd most important player on Conner's team. Fogle was the difference maker in this game. He didn't play the past two weeks and Conner's defense was... well unimpressive. His diving INT, TD run and his late game run on the reverse were the key plays in the game. He is one of those players that seems to make plays when you need him. I am not familiar with who Conner plays in the playoff's, but if they play a good passing team they will be vulnerable. This game didn't show it obviously but the other games I've seen tells me that passing D is their soft spot. CovCath was unable to adjust to the field conditions, until late in the 2nd quarter or the 2nd half. Their offense has been so pass oriented ( and Why not with Blake Bir) that it took some time to move to 80 percent run game. Add in the loss of Dressman early in the game, and have the game on Friday. In no way making excuses, because the weather affected Conner just as much and they were able to adjust. I also think Conner came out with a chip on their shoulder, something to prove mentality and that showed early in the game. Hopefully this is wake up call for the Colonels as they prepare for the playoffs.
  8. This victory may have saved Rodenberg's job. Great job by mighty Moe. This weekend emphasizes why score comparisons in HS can be a very misleading fact.
  9. Many people have stated it. Colleges have a pretty defined template of size and speed that they are looking for in most positions. Occasionally you will have a maverick recruiter/coach who will stick his neck out and go after a player not in the mold. Some coaches save 2 or 3 spots out of an average of 22 scholly's a year (D1 ) for "football" players. The other thing that comes into play is the "projection" factor. I have heard several recruiters talk about seeing what a player will be 2 or 3 years down the road, not what they are today. It's not just D1 and D1 aa that use a template. However at the DII, NAIA and DIII levels the cost factor comes into play. Very few players at DII and NAIA schools get full football rides out of HS. Most receive a combination of Football, Academic and other Grant in aid. Quite often kids not in the mold are included because they are either willing to pay or they get enough non-football money to make it worth the "risk" by the school. In the case of T Durham, it's not uncommon for the D2's and NAIA schools not to offer him until after their season ends. Recognize at these schools they often wait to see who "falls through cracks" from D1 and D1aa before truly offering a package. Even the D1 -aa like EKU and Murray St. will wait until pretty late in the game to sign players. It's frustrating to watch quality players not get a chance because their "measurables" don't stack up. Height to me is the most frustrating one, and the one that most often is shown to be wrong. (Ed Reed, Drew Brees, Pac-man Jones etc) My guess with Durham is that he ends up at a D1aa school like EKU or Murray St.
  10. Looks like he made a wise choice. He is contributing right away, and that always makes the transition easier. If he plays at the next level NAIA or DII, he would probably be a Red shirt candidate, and that can be tough thing mentally not to mention adding another potential 1/2 year of college tuition.
  11. I disagree I watched the play again the official running in did blow his whistle. When an official is running in to spot the ball that signifies the whistle has blown and he is spotting the ball.
  12. More than likely it will be Highlands and CovCath vs Ashland and Johnson Central. We know it will be HHS as the #1 seed in NKY and CCH as the #2. The Ashland vs JC game will determine who HHS and CovCath play.
  13. I'm I the only one that is somewhat shocked, embarrassed and little disgusted that after attending HC for 2 years he doesn't have enough credits to be eligble at Taft?
  14. Ryle is 5-0 wins over Cooper (2), Boone, CovCath and Conner. Covcath 2-2 wins over Boone and SK, losses to Campbell Co. and Ryle.
  15. Was he the youngman who was the backup QB for the Dixie game? He was a nice player, I hope he recovers quickly and fully.
  16. I know the varsity is 5 -0, are the JV and Freshman also undefeated? If so do people think this is another start of solid three year run for the Pioneers?
  17. I was not at the game, but I have seen the film. I am not emotionally tied to either team. My observation of the game (film only) is that it was a typical HS football game. There were "questionable" plays (not many) from both teams, but nothing I saw as outrageous. Even the play highlighted above was an over zealous and obviously frustrated player trying to strip the ball 5 yards deep in the endzone. He wasn't throwing punches, he foolishly was trying to dislodge a football 5 yards after it crossed the goalline. Not an uncommon play to see. As to the controversy between the two ex-nfl players now working as coaches. In the heat of the battle competitors sometimes say things they later regret. It is also my observation that both coaches involved are the type that if their on your side.... you love em. If there on the other side ... not so much. Final observation: I know a couple other ex-nfl players who are not big fans of Coach Brilz, not because of how he acts or coaches but how he got into the league. If you remember he was a "replacement" player. Many of the stong NFL Player association guys never forgave those players for crossing the line. Perhaps some of that emotion was involved last Thursday evening.
  18. Does Beechwood bring Nuesbaum back full time this week an risk agravating the injury, or do they keep him on defense and allow him another week to heal before he plays a ton of offense. As a CovCath fan, I hope he is back and at full strength I think it makes this game a better match up. If I were a Beechwood supporter that would be tough call. While you obviously want to play your local rival tough and with all of your weapons available, it could put the ultimate goal of a State Championship at risk. If he is fully recovered, it is a no brainer he should and will be there. If however he is a lets say 85% its an interesting call for Coach Rash.
  19. Both Starting QB's missed the 2nd half. Does anyone know what injuries the 2 had? Dixie's QB appeared to have a right Shoulder/collar bone problem. I never saw what happenned to Hergot, but he appeared to be doing well after the game. Tough to lose your starting QB at the Frosh level and still keep a good flow to the offense.
  20. This time it was Conner who scheduled a Wednesday game, not CovCath.
  21. Wow.. I knew that had some serious injuries, I had no idea it has reached epidemic proportions. How many are season ending?
