Conner visits SK tonight for a Frosh match up, how do the two teams match up? How did each do in their opening games? I know SK was supposed to play Dixie, not sure if Conner played a Freshmen game last week.

Understand completely that results at the Freshman level do not have a direct correlation to success at the varsity level. However, if raw talent doesn't exist its tough to develop. I see programs take average talent and make it good, and some take good and make it great. I have yet to see a program take poor talent and make it great.

Do SK and Beechwood play at the frosh level? I hear Beechwood's frosh are pretty good how are SK's freshman, have they played yet?

How is Cooper's Freshman team? They obviously have a great varsity team. If they have a great Freshman team they might be in the begining of a very special run. Didn't they play Ryle's freshman team? If they faired well against Ryle, I would say the future is very bright for Coach Borchers!

I think this is Coach Wirth's 4th season at the helm. That would make this year's Senior's the first full class under Coach Wirth. I don't think any of the players at Covcath played under the Brossart regime.

Really hate to hear about this. Steve is a great ref and a better guy. I hope he has a quick and full recovery.

I can see the D1 kids getting that kind of influence from their coaches, but the D2, NAIA and D3 coaches usually enourage their recruits to play. It is somewhat of a status for the schools to have their recruits in All Star games, it is also helps validate their recruiting them in the first place. I know that Georgetown, Lindsey Wilson, Campbellsville, Union, Thomas More, St.Joseph of Indiana and Mt. St. Joes have all encouraged their recruits to play. I always enjoyed the game and I think it will be very sad if this tradition comes to end. Is this for sure or just hearsay?

CovCath plays a very challanging schedule year in year out. Usually play in two or three Tournaments around the state. TOG and others market the players with other coaches, fans and the media. Add in a very successful regular season record against said competition and you get the perception that exists. NewCath is probably the team that should be the most upset by the Baseball snub. They have continually proven they are a threat to win the 9th year in and year out. It's not unlike how teams in NKY view LexCatch, Trinity and Male. All things being equal NKY fans always expect those schools to be good.

The Defense will indeed be the strength of the team. Nine players who started at least 3 games last year on Defense return, along with 2 or 3 players who played significant minutes should give CovCath the strongest defensive squad since the 2006 state Championship team. On offense Blake Bir will again be at the helm, leading an inexperienced yet talented group. I think in some ways they may be more difficult to game plan for, because you no longer can focus on a Gabe Gray. Having said that losing a talent like Gray is difficult for any offense, and not facing him makes a d-coordinators job much easier. The Offense in total is inexperienced at the varsity level. The key will be how quickly they gell together. Look for the offense to struggle early but find its identity after a few games.

How many innings did Tiberi pitch? Will he be available for Thursday's game?

I'm a huge CovCath fan, but my concern is that while their pitching is a deep as any HS team I have seen, they don't have that 1 outstanding sure fire ace. They have several very good and capable pitchers, but I don't know if they have the one guy that game in game out dominates. They have had several dominate games, but no one I would call a dominate pitcher. This may up being blessing in disguise, because they may be able to pitch by committee and really keep teams off balance. However, it's nice to know you can go to one guy and know if you put up 3 runs you will more than likely win the game. Having said that they are still the favorite, but as others have said you only need one game in High School, many things can happen.

I was very impressed with NewCath's balance last night. If the Beuter kid finds his outside stroke, watch out. Seibert, Ryan, and Schulte look like they come from the same petry dish. Very nice players all 3, all with a very balanced game. If McDonald hits the weight room in the off season, he could be an absolute monster. He played that way at times last night. The bottom line is that NewCath was the tougher team, mentally and physically. I recognize you can't affect how much height you have, but CovCath needs to up the weight program for basketball. They have some nice athletes with good basketball iQ's, but they get pushed around a lot. If not for Massie rebounding from his guard position, I can't imagine what the rebound differential would have been. If NewCath plays like they did last night, they will be tough to beat. I think Holmes will be the toughest match up for them.

I agree Sawyer had the game of his life. It's amazing what confidence can do for your game. He hit several early shots, and you could see his confidence build. He played great d and hit Crucial shots the entire game. I feel for the young man from HC, as great a game and career he had, my guess is all he can think about is going 1 for 5 at the free throw line late in the game. Hopefully the bad memories fade and he remembers the good times. BTW One of the best games I've seen in years.

Congrats to Jake and the Henderson family. I know it makes his family very happy to know they will get to see Jake play again! Coach Hilvert has really done a nice job getting some of the NKY players to stay home. I look forward to watching a few games next year.
