Danny played LB g-town? in High School he was always a line man, never know for his wheels. Strong and tough yes, foot speed noo! I know he didn't go the traditional route, I think he may have not started g-town until he was in his 20's. Good to see his son doing well.

It was Michael Robinson. While Pat was the overall star of the game with some incredible plays, both on offense and defense. Probably the best single game performance in the past 7 years. However, the catch that Robinson made on the sidline was THE BEST catch I have ever seen at the High School level. It kept the final drive alive allowing CovCath to come back from a 20 point deficit.

Did time run out or were they stopped on downs? How did the LB's and DB's look for Covcath?

I was told by a well recognized Orthopedic Doc that it definitely helps those who have had previous injury, even minor injuries. For Ankles it helps the "rolling the Ankle" injury from being more severe. Doesn't stop injuries or rolled ankles, but can prevent the severity. there is an differing opinion by some... Karem Abdul Jabar did not believe in taping his ankles. He felt his use of Yoga, meditation and martial arts made it unneccessary and even detrimental. It was stated he was the only player of his era who never taped their ankle. So while I was told by my son's orthopedic Doc, that it helps minimize injuries, there are those like Jabar who disagree.

From an outsider looking in. The senior class is solid, not spectacular but within the norm of HHS football classes. However, let's not forget they lost one of if not their biggest weapon in Feggins. Junior class, average by most HS standards, definitely below average for HHS. The Sophomore class is well below the norm at Highlands. I am not saying that there are not good or excellent players in the Soph and Junior classes, just not as many nor the quality that Highlands has seen the past 8 or 9 years. Let's be clear, in my opinion HHS wins because they are the best TEAM, not the best individual athletes or D1 Prospects. However if there are a couple injuries to key players, I don't think Highlands has the ability to replace them as they have in years past. Stay injury free and they will be similar to teams of the past few years. Get the wrong player (Hodge, Abner) injured and it could be a different story against the Colonels.

Interesting you say that. I went to a clinic about 4 year ago where a HS Coach from either Alabama or Ga, can't remember which, espoused this very thing. According to him the elite HS kickers convert about 89% of there PAT's. The above average around 84%, the average about 75- 80%(that's the one I can't remember the exact numbers). According to the same guy, an average HS team will convert about 55% of 2 point conversions. If you do the math, based on a 30 TD season at the above average kicking stat you will score 26 extra points (rounded up). If you only convert at 47% on 2 point conversions you will score 28 points. His argument went on to say if you practice 2 pt conversions as much as regular pat's, you can get to the 60% or 65% level with your 2 point plays, meaning you would score between 36 and 38 extra points in a 30 td season. He then went on to say now let's say you have an elite kicker, you woud only score 27 points on regular Pat's, meaning even if you have an elite kicker you would be giving up on 9 to 11 points a year compared to a good 2 point conversion team. Not saying I buy into the argument completely but it definitely stuck in my mind as an intriguing argument.

This whole thing has become a complete fiasco. It's a shame no matter how it turns out now it will be a tough situation for the young man. Don't get me wrong I understand when you do something like this, you have to live with the consequences. I just wonder if those behind the decision realized the ramifications. Can't see this turning out to be a positive outcome at this point.

They definitely were in 2 deep, but it wasn't man under most of the time. It was 2 deep 5 under zone defense. On occassion they would blitz one of the backers and play man under, but that was more the exception than the rule when I was there. Definitely made the WR's work to get off the ball, but weren't great at synching back in the Zone. As a result Wag's constantly beat them by throwing the deep dig/comeback underneath the safety. The one really nice looking playing they ran the outside on a corner and the slot's up the seams and Wag's hit Craword on a beautifully executed play down the seam for a TD.

I agree that CovCath had some real positives, especially on offense. They don't have a dominate WR in the mix, but have a bunch of very quick, surehanded options. You have the Irish gang (Mcdowel, Mcclure, and Mcginnis) all had good nights. I think that was to be expected. You also had some nice plays by Rensing, Haughy and Crawford. If Wag's can stay healthy the Offense looks potent.

First let me say this, Highlands has been on a different level than all other NKY schools the past 10 years. In general they have been at a different level than all KY schools not name Trinity. Now to the recent past vs CovCath. Starting in 2010 the games have for the most part been very competitive. By competitive I define as a game in the 4th quarter that is within one or two scores. For the 2 score games to be competitive the losing team has to have mounted a serious scoring threat or the wining team scores late in the game to seal the victory. Here are the past few years: 2010 Highlands 27 - CovCath 20 (Statistically not a real close, however last play of game ball hits the hands of Covcath WR at Highlands 15 yard line, 5 yards behind any Highlands player) 2011 Highlands 42 - CovCath 37 ( Very tight game, back and forth final offensive play is the one mentioned above Pass slightly out of reach of CovCath WR to give the Colonels the ball inside the 20 with a minute left on the clock) Playoff Highlands 49 - CovCath 14 ( Not a close game, Highlands came with a totally different offensive game plan and controlled the LOS. CovCath tried the same game plan as game one and didn't have a plan b when it didn't work) 2012 Highlands 35 - Covcath 21 (Competitive game Highlands pulled away late in the 4th) Playoff Highlands 28 Covath 13 (Again very competitive game for 3 1/2 quarters, Covcath conceded when on with 3:00 minutes to play and 4th down at the 45 they chose to punt it to Highlands. In all fairness Highlands could have pushed in another score but chose to take a knee in the final seconds) 2013 Highlands 42 - CovCath 6 (Not as close as the score indicates. Highlands dominated from the get go and probably could have put up 60 if they chose. CovCath was still reeling from injuries with a young in-experienced qb) Playoff Highlands 28 - CovCath 13 ( Much closer than anyone expected. The combination of Dressman and Wagner caused issues for the Highlands D, keeping this game tight until late in the 4th.) Those are the scores, with my editorial comment. Has Highlands dominated.. Yes is the rivarly dead.. NO Are the games still must see NKY football .. absolutely!

Just curious what information source that is from. I have found it difficult to compare Public vs. Private in a balanced way. Private's don't take the required state test and ACT and SAT are difficult to gage based on the percentage at each school that take the test. Ie. 99% of the Private take the test, that % changes depending upon the Public.

Isn't he a pretty decent baseball player as well? He could fill a serious void for the Colonels. This along with the Fegins transfer does start the summer off on a positive note for the Colonels chances of finally getting past the birds.

How many times has Conner (Arlo) been the team to knock Krumps out of the Region in those years? It seems like 4 or 5, probably not that many but it seems like he has his number in Region play.

I talked to Coach Ruthsatz about 2 months after he came to CovCath, so take the rest for what it is worth based on how long ago it was. He told me he originally had asprirations to coach in College, but that Coach Hurly councilled him, that having a healthy family life and being a D1 bball coach did not mix well. If he wanted a sense of balance in his life (if that's what you want to call coaching high school) that being a High School head coach was the path to take. That is one of the reasons he came to Covcath. I always thought he had aspirations to be in the GCL. He feels a very devout Catholic and feels comfortable in the Catholic school system. I believe he has other sources of income, so that shouldn't be a driving force. After watching the State Tourn. this past weekend, I think moving to Ohio would be a step backwards in regards to HS basketball. I have never discussed it again with him since, so his thoughts may have changed but that is the gist of the discussion we had a few years ago.

DB: Way, Oberhausen, Fisher, Schmal Return: Wagner, Zumdick I'm sure I missed a few on both sides. Key will be LB's and secondary. CovCath has won on Defense the last two years. They'll find WR's and have options at Oline. As freshman Senior class lost to Highlands (both games were very tight) and on a last second 70 yd scramble by Drew More. Solid nucleous need a few under classman to take key roles.

He did and was a very good offensive lineman. He had the type of feet that O-line coaches love. I thought he could have developed into an all-region/conference type of lineman. However Basketball was his passion, and he has made the most of his HS basketball career, and I hear has been shown interest by several DIII schools. If he had the same passion for the gridiron, he could have been a NAIA or DII type of player. Couldn't ask for a better person and teammate. Beyond thrilled about the game he had.

I find it sad that Kids are often forced to pick one over the other. Even if the two HC are cooperating completely, the pure time comittment of playing AAU and Summer CCH basketball, as well as the 3 day a week football practices starting June 1st is quite overwhelming. This is where I think the concern for over use injuries and lack of weight training time becomes a concern. I hope he continues to play both, and I hope it's at QB. He has one of the quickest releases I have seen ever for kid his age. However, as someone above mentioned he definitely could use some reps to improve/change some of his mechanics to take his QB skills to the next level. Didn't get to see the game yet, but based on several other post it appears that Jaylen Hayes was not on the field much again. I have to ask where has he been all year. He plays on KOR, so he apparently isn't injured. Dale Mueller is the best HC in NKY and maybe the state, but I have to wonder how/why a talented kid like Hayes hasn't played more. Based on the Injuries they have had in the secondary, I would have to ask why he wasn't given an opportunity to help back there. As a Freshman he was the 2nd best player on that team behind Harris.

Highlands is a machine, no other way to say it. Coach W is the best D-coordinator in NKY and maybe KY. They will easily win their 7th state title in a row. Harris is a beast, and Feggins off night and all is a fantastic WR. Having said that I know the CovCath team much better. This senior class is the best since the 2006 team. They were 8-2 as freshman, both losses to Highlands. The last 3 years when many of them either started or were big contributors they have a 29-10 record at the varsity level. Their only losses are to Highlands 6 times La Salle twice Moeller 1 time and Conner 1 time. They are great young men who have represented Covcath proudly both on and off the field. Thanks to everyone one of you for a great 4 years of Football! Continue doing everything in life with the passion and dedication you have shown these last four years!

CovCath is peaking at the right time. This game (as usual) was won in the trenches. The Colonel o-line dominated the JC defense of front 7. The Colonels used a variety fronts and personnel groupings to stymie the JC offense. Luke Bir is finally healthy as is the o-line, and it really showed last night. Sam Burchell was on top of his game last night. He controlled the running lanes from tackle to tackle. Ben Dressman has gone from a shaky, fundamentally challenged QB to a confident play maker. Not sure if they have improved enough to challenge the Birds next week, but they have improved as much as I have seen any HS team do in a 9 week stretch. (I'm talking about after the injuries from the Dixie game). It at least make next weeks game to look forward to.

First let me say, I have no idea what his status is. However, if he is back and healthy the JC game in round two is a toss up. If he isn't back or isn't at least 90% I think JC becomes the decided favorite. During the past 5 years CovCath has only lost 1 or maybe 2 games (last year against Conner, and perhaps 2010 against JC, don't know who was the favorite) when they were the favorite. On the flip side in the past 5 years they have only won 1 or 2 (2010 vs LexCath, and Perhaps 2011 against Ashland) when they were the underdog.

It's far from a sure thing, but I still say its a 50/50 proposition that Trinity could end up as the 6A state Champs. Their regular season record is 4 -5. If they were to go on and win the State title would they be the first team with a losing (regular season) record to win a state title?
