For our Birds, and maybe some Colonels in the know, how do compare the talent of the 2014 Highlands Football Team vs. the talent of the past five Highlands Football teams?

 

I am not looking for anything too complicated, just some basic, concise opinions.

Uh, shouldn't we see the 2014 Birds in action at least in a scrimmage before we start making comparisons?

Ok, I'll take first shot at this...............

 

First, they have fewer wins than any of the others (lol) but seriously, that will likely continue. The schedule v. talent will be a challenge for this team. Therefore, their success will be measured greatly in whether they are improving (beyond W/L) as the season progresses. More than teams of recent history, this team will have to overcome losses, regrouping, maintaining focus in a different way than those teams because it will likely happen more often. IF they take what's in them (talent), show heart/internal fortitude, and stay healthy, I believe they could realize the same sucesses as previous teams.....but it won't come as easily. There is plenty of individual talent and one could argue that some positions are just as strong but overall, probably a little less than recent teams and it will show the most in their depth. Overcoming injuries will be a big challenge.

I think what Ru is saying is with who we know is returning as far as talent on the 2014 roster how would they compare.

 

I would say there are some really good football players, in fact Dale if he were the coach would probably say this 2014 group is some of the fastest, smartest, strongest Highlands Football players to ever don the blue and white.

 

I say lets see how they perform first.

 

Remmac makes a good point, this group will deal with some adversity so it will be huge how they react and if they develop over the season. For the first time in a long time I think there will be a lot of competitive games on the schedule instead of blowouts.

If I am not mistaken, the recent Highlands teams have all had at least one D1 recruit and usually more than one.

Don't think 2010 had any and possibly 2012 also but I might be missing someone.

Technically, any D1 player who played on the 2013 team and also started on the 2012 team counts as having a D1 player IMO.

Is Beau Hoge getting any D-1 looks? He did attend some prestigious camps didn't he?
