Congrats to Beechwood and Coach Meyerhoff on reaching 20 wins on the season. That is 8 consecutive seasons with 20 wins for Meyerhoff and the Tigers - a great accomplishment for a 1A school playing a tough schedule every year. Even more impressive is this year's 20 win Tiger team does not have one senior.

I may not be the best judge, because I don't see as much HS baseball as I used to, but right now I would have to say that Coach Meyerhoff has to be one of the top (if not the top) 3 HS coaches in NKY. Every year he adjust to the talent he has and puts out a very competitive team.

I completely agree. Both of those are the top 2 coaches year in and year out. Meyerhoff coached my son during the summer several years ago. He is a great guy to be around and an even better coach. He always got the best out of his players.

This will come across as not having respect for BW which is the opposite of the truth. Their success is to be emulated by many.

 

However, lets not get carried away with their schedule being "tough."

 

Dayton, Villa, Heritage, St Henry, Lloyd, Villa, Ludlow, Bellevue, Ludlow, Carroll County, Cooper, Holmes, SK.

 

13 wins against those teams.

 

They did what they should do which is beat the weaker teams that they played.

 

Again, before anyone gets their feelings hurt all I'm saying is that while they are historically strong they didn't get 20 wins against a tough schedule this year.

I'm a big fan of his coaching abilities. However, for anyone to act like he's not blessed with more talented kids than the average small school is kidding themselves. He's in a great school system in a strong community with a great tradition in athletics. That's the formula for getting talent.

Always the same argument posted against small schools. They play the schedule that they are given and they win their games. There are a lot of small schools that play inferior talent and do not get the "W" I don't think BW's schedule was that "tough" this year, but lets not discredit their 20 wins.

I said they beat who they had to play. No argument.

 

However, you can't say they got 20 wins against a tough schedule. That's my point.

The "20 win" issue is overblown in my mind. You can play 36 games in a regular season plus at least one in the tourney. So , you could get your 20 and have 17 losses. Is that something to celebrate at top baseball schools?

Some validity to your post Clyde, although some of the schools you list above as weak would probably be offended and they also made up part of the wins for other top teams. The flip side of course is there are some nice wins over Boone County and NewCath twice. Plus some of those schools listed as questionable wins are much bigger schools than Beechwood. I agree with you that Beechwood gets more talent than the typical 1A school but it is still a nice accomplishment to get 20 wins 8 years in a row, especially with a team with no seniors. As to 20 wins being an accomplishment, our friends down Dixie Highway are very proud of their 20 win season streak, and rightfully so IMO. I don't know how many other schools have significant streaks of 20 win seasons so that might be interesting to check out for a point of comparison.

Meyerhoff did a great job this year with so many young kids, plus two who transfer because they would not even be playing if they stay at the school they were at.
