The issue with 9th Region officials is simplyy depth. The top 5-6 officials in this region are as good as officals from any region. Once you get past that group the decline is pretty severe. 10th Region teams are really going to struggle with the style of 9th Region officiating.

Head coach can delegate this responsibility to his assistants or to a student statistician and it's not hard to enter the info every game or every couple of games. Having stats available to student athletes and parents also helps them market themselves and provide information to college coaches. In an era where high school coaches are not as involved in the recruiting process as the AAU coach and where parents have to assume some or most of the marketing capabilities providing stats is a small piece of the puzzle where high school coaches can help. There are also relatives, family friends, etc who are unable to attend games or live out of the area. Giving them a place to find info info is a positive for your program whether it is thru a team web site or a general site like NKY.com. These are the same people who attend games and support the fundraisers for the program.

Losing Stewart is huge for Highlands. After seeing him this summer I thought he was a legit top 5 player in Northern Kentucky and a candidate for player of the year. He was going to be the focal point for Highlands and I thought would put up huge numbers. When will Stewart be back for Highlands?

Scott had no answer for Brown. He just dominated on the inside on the offensive side of the ball. Crabtree was also a force in the game. Scott was able to limit McQuearys looks. Flip side was Boone County gave up a lot of open looks playing that extended 2/3 zone. When they extend that zone there are a lot of gaps for guards to penetrate and kick it out to shooters.

Yes.....so much easier to go to play on Mason County home floor and have a top 5 team like GRC sitting in your region.

Would have to agree that Brown deserves to be in the mix but not getting a lot of help from Boone County coaching staff when they don't call in the stats. I have only seen Boone County once this year and Brown was good not spectacular. Certainly not like he played in the Eastern game. As I said in the earlier post lots of basketball still to played before these types of awrds are handed out.

Three player race for player of the year in Northern Kentucky in my opinion. Not willing to give award just yet to Giesler in first two weeks of January. CovCath has played awful well early in the year and Thelen has been very good. Realize Scott is in the 10th Region but if you are talking about player of year in Northern Kentucky at this point Kellen Smith has to be in the conversation. He is averaging 19 ppg (top 5 in N Ky), leading Northern Kentucky in assists by a wide margin and leading in steals as well. If your argument is that Giesler is more important to his team than you haven't watched Scott play. Scott runs everything thru Smith and like Giesler he doesn't come off the floor unless it is foul trouble or a blowout. Lot of basketball to be played before you hand out the awards

Scott has played well in their only two games in January and both have been pretty big rivalry games. See if they can carry on with this momentum. Coach Carr's teams have traditionally been slow starters but always seem to be playing better as they go thru January. Scott is a tough matchup for Simon Kenton and even moreso with Cody Chambers out and Nick Gray still recovering. Even with those two I don't know if SK has a answer for Scott's guard play but probably not a 17 point blowout. I can imagine Coach Steiner will be awfully glad to see Kellen Smith graduate as he always seems to have big games against SK. :banana:

Tough crowd in Independence! SK had their best player in street clothes and another starter in a cast. I think SK really misses Nick Gray and his senior leadership especially in a big rivalry game. Gray is an all out effort player and that is tough to replace. SK can get healthy and make a run in the 8th Region and this night will all be forgotten. Steiner is a good coach and an even better person. If he thinks he needed to send a message to his players about playing harder and with more intensity then what better game than Scott/SK?

Expect another close game but this is the time of the year when Carr traditionally has Scott playing better basketball. Losing Chambers doesn't help SK. SK should be rocking but Scott wins 62-56.

Different philosophies on man to man as far as where help is supposed to be and where defenders are to funnel offense. If CovCath is playing the true "pack line" team defense that Xavier has used the past few years they should be funneling offense to the middle and not allowing baseline drives. Both systems have been effective but the key still lies in the execution and all five players on the court being on the same page.

Dixie was ranked #1 in the 9th Region and undefeated and had previously beat Scott before Christmas so I think it would qualify as an upset. Dixie is a solid team and I still think they are the team to beat in the 9th. Kellen Smith scored his 1000th career point in this game but he must have had close to a triple double with rebounds and assists. He also did a good job matching up with Hatton on the defensive end.

Key to this game will be Flesch from Conner. If he lets Losey go off for 23 pts again Conner will be in trouble. Both teams appear to be back at full strength. Conner gets back on track with a 66-62 win.

One heck of a high school basketball player but one of the worst referees in the 9th Region.

Holmes struggled with Giesler down low. CovCath also has some quality size. If CovCath guards can handle the pressure CovCath can pull out the win. Going with CovCath 62-56

Boone has had some good to very good 3 point shooters the past few years and it was not part of the offense. Now they seem to have a lot of size and bulk underneath and now the three becomes part of the offense? Brown is a major force down low and Crabtree is one of the most improved players I saw over the summer. Very few 9th Region teams can match Boone down low. Seems like shooting a lot of threes is not playing to their strength?

Brossart is always tough to beat at the Sy Dome but I think Scott pulls one out because of their guard play as well, Interesting side note to the game if you are a Scott fan....from the Enquirer today, :clap: "Scott senior point guard Kellen Smith will enter Friday's game at Brossart needing 15 points to reach 1,000 for his career. He is also closing in on the school record for assists" :clap:

Last that I heard he will not be back until the end of January??
