  1. Doesn't matter where the kid plays he is a really good player and while Villa might not be a "powerhouse" playing their varsity schedule is still significantly more difficult than playing strictly at the frosh level.
  2. Enjoyed the first episode and Keri Russell is still pretty hot!!
  3. In all fairness to Ohmer if you are including 8th graders you have to go with Cole Von Handorf at Villa. Von Handorf is getting it done at the varsity level as opposed to the freshmen league.
  4. While it makes a good story I think it defeats the purpose of competition and striving for goals. I am a purist when it comes setting a record or achieving a milestone. I think it demeans the accomplishments of other student athletes who did reach the goal and also what about the group of athletes from the past who scored 980-990 points in their careers?
  5. I think you are underrating the 37th District. Other than the 35th with Holmes, CovCath and Holy Cross it has been as tough a district as there is in Northern Kentucky and without a doubt the toughest district in the 10th Region. Pretty much on a yearly basis there is a top 5 team in the 10th Region sitting at home come regional time. Winning 4 districts in a row is quite an accomplishment coming out of the 37th and during that run he had the misfortune of matching up with some very, very good GRC teams during the regional tourney.
  6. Go there a couple of times per month on Monday night when it is half price Mac N Cheese! This is really, really good Mac N Cheese!
  7. Thought it was well done and will continue to watch
  8. Officials meet with the captains and coaches of both teams before games and that subject is supposed to discussed. You want the players to be able to play with some emotion but if it's truly just trash talking then that doesn't belong in the game. If Ruthsatz was indeed the one doing the trash talking it sounds like Fredrick was in that situation of having to cash the check someone else had written.
  9. Scarlett Johanson, Jennifer Lawrence and Mila Kunis in no particular order!
  10. You might want to actually read the post before saying that I am spreading a rumor. My post was more directed at how things work in todays world of high school sports and not specific to Dixie. You can go 5 miles down Dixie Hwy and hear many of the same thoughts. I can't speak directly to the Dixie situation but if you don't believe this occurs at most schools with a similar type situation then that is one of those ostrich with his head in the sand moments.
  11. Nice win for Highlands and have to admit I am a little surprised as I thought Campbell county would have too much with McGovney back. It's why I love HS basketball on any given night!!
  12. I think Hatton is the best player in the 9th Region and what he has accomplished at the high school level is amazing. I have also had the opportunity to watch him on the AAU circuit and absolutely believe he is a D1 player. He gets buckets against high level competition. Dixie was going to be very young this season and Hatton was going to have to be their #1 option most nights to have a chance to win. I think a lot of people overrated Dixies soph class ability to make the jump to varsity and be really good this season. I felt that next season after a year of playing at the varsity level would be Dixies best opportunity to compete for another regional title. The other reality is that in today's society parents are going to complain unless their kid is the focal point. I don't think any of them would deny that Hatton is the best player but it is the nature of the beast. Parents are a lot more vested in their kids than back in the day. Coach Chevy has invested a lot in BH making him the focal point of teams with other very good players. I would find it difficult to believe that he is going to choose this time to pull back the reins?
  13. Would be surprised if there were any college coaches in attendence. Majority of recruiting is done on the AAU circuit and other than Bolden not a lot of college prospects in this game.
  14. I see home about 10 times a season and saw him quite a bit on the summer circuit. In my opinion gives up way too many straight line drives to the basket when guarding other top guards. I feel he gambles a little too much and against better guards which he will face at the next level that puts your teammates at a disadvantage. He rarely goes against that type of guard in the 9th. I think Northern Kentucky is underrecruited so I root for kids like Ruthsatz to get that next D1 opportunity. That helps that next group of kids coming up thru the system like Bolden and the other sophs in this thread. It also helps when kids like Smith, Gabbard and Thelen have the type of success they are having at the next level
  15. I will go a little more recent and compare Ruthsatz to Mikey Gabbard from Boone County and Kellen Smith of Scott both of who were recruited at a higher level than Jacobs and Hester. Both are enjoying a lot of success currently at the D2 level. Ruthsatz has a much more refined offensive game as far as scoring the basketball than both of those players but both are bigger, stronger, just as quick and have a more complete game. Ruthsatz ability to score the basketball will get him some opportunities. What gets him on the court at the next level will be his ability to adjust his game and show a little more commitment on the defensive side of the ball.
  16. It only takes one D1 school to like you enough to make you a D1 player. There are a whole lot of very average D1 conference/schools where Ruthsatz could play. The opposite side to that is that there are a whole lot of very good D2 schools where Ruthsatz could be an impact player. Depends on what the student athlete and parent are looking for as far as playing time, ability to play for conference championships and play in NCAA tournament. With that being said I was able to watch Ruthsatz in an open gym environment against a current D2 PG and he struggled with the physicality and quickness. Ruthsatz is a very very good offensive player at the high school level but he is not very solid on the defensive side of the ball especially against guards who are just as quick or have more size. To play at the D1 level someone is going to have to ovelook his size and defensive liabilities. He is also a volume shooter from the PG position and you don't see a whole lot of 5'9" shoot first PG's at the D1 level.
  17. Off the top of my head and I am rather Northern Kentucky centric so I am sure I will miss some players but at the D2 level right now: Mikey Gabbard (Boone Co), Casey Sorrell (Simon Kenton) and Corey Sorrell (Holy Cross) at Erskine Jake Thelen (Covington Catholic) & Vance Hall (Franklin Co) Bellarmine DeMarko Foster (Newport) University of Tampa Daniel O'Conner (Scott HS) Tusculum Scott Schuette (Lexington Catholic) Rollins College Bobby Stauffer (Ryle)Ohio Dominican Kellen Smith (Scott HS) Saginaw Valley State Most if not all of these players are starting and/or playing significant minutes at this level. Bellarmine has more players with Kentucky connections but I will let someone with a little more knowledge of that area add their names. I know I probably missed some kids but good start for players having D2 success
  18. We live in a world with a 24 hour news cycle and every incident goes viral especially when it occurs against a high profile team like Kentucky. I grew up in an old school world where these types of coaches with the in your face intensity and the shove in the back would have been a lot more commonplace. With that being said I don't know how long of a shelf life coaches can have with that mentality in todays world. From this point forward Woods will be heavily scrutinized and even at Morehead there are cameras and media at every game. As someone mentioned in an earlier post where this will have an effect is in the recruiting of high school athletes where parents are much more involved. Woods has shown the ability to recruit from the JUCO world where you are dealing with a different type of recruit.
  19. Don't know if I have ever read a more misinformed statement on transition from one coach to another? A new coach is installing not only a new system but trying to change a culture. Even in a winning program transition is difficult to say the least but to say a coach just is playing out the previous coaches hand is grossly misinformed. I have seen it at the high school and the collegiate level and nothing could be further from the truth. It would be more accurate to state that a new staff gets a "honeymoon" type of year where wins and losses are are not as important as creating a winning environment and changing the culture in the lockerroom.
  20. I was able to disable the add ons on my lap top and seems to have cleared up the issue. I have not disabled the add ons on my home computer and problem still seems to exist. I know everyone is saying that it is not tied into the adds but the only time I have an issue is when the Toyota ad was in place? No issues at any time when using my Kindle Fire?
  21. Zero problem with middle schoolers playing up. However, I do believe that playing up is a privilege and coaches have the right to move a student athlete back if they feel that the student athlete may not be 100 % committed to their program.
  22. No obligation at all but I would bet that moving up this student athlete has been discussed with the family and in the planning stages for a couple of years. The staff has invested extra time and provided additional opportunites for the student athlete that were available because they recognized he has the ability to be a very good player in their program. You don't have the obligation to tell your boss you are job hunting but if he finds your resume in the fax machine you might lose some of the privileges and good will you have built up with that boss. Not to continue to beat that dead horse but he is still getting the opportunity/privilege to play up on the freshmen team.
