In the topsy turvy 9th I will go with Conner in this one by 6....66-60. Think Hodges & Robinson will have big games. Flesch will have to handle HC pressure and get good shots for big guys like Highlands was able to do. Look for Burger to have a big game for HC.

CovCath had trouble against Scott containing their guards and Dixie also has a very dynamic backcourt. Dixie also has a better frontcourt presence than Scott so I don't see Thelen going off again for 36 points. Thelen will get 25 but Dixies guards will have a big night also. Dixie just has too many weapons in their starting five and is a little deeper than CovCath.....Dixie by 12......72-60

Great post! Seems like there has been more mention of officiating on BGP this year than in past years. There is so much parity this year in HS basketball that it seems most games are coming down to that one or two possessions where every basket and every call is magnified. I think I have made this point in other threads in that the problem with officals in most if not all regions is quality depth. Just my opinion but I think it is especially true in the 8th & 9th Region. The top guys in those regions are as good as any group of officlals in the state but I think that mid tier and lower tier group are weaker. Great point about the difficulty of assigning games this time of the year especially when teams are going out of region. If the game is at Highlands you don't get a top tier 9th Region crew for the very same reasons.

No doubt he was fouled but it just could be added to the long list of calls that were questionable both ways. Coach Hicks was stuck with a T in the second half which he deserved. Went out of his way to make sure he got the T giving the officials little choice. Funny thing was the call that he caused him to blow up was probably the right call. Typical 9th Region officiated game as it seemed that everyone who played in the first half had two fouls by halftime. Good run for Scott to get acclimated to 9th Region officiating so that if they make the regional tournament they won't have to adjust as much as other 10th Region teams

Don't see Connelly in the box score? Assuming he played and was shut out? Very surprising if that is the case he has been pretty solid scoring the basketball as of late.

Scott got a huge game from Nick Farris in addition to Smith 20 points. Farris hit some big shots down the stretch and Smith was probably very close to a triple double. Conner still has to be the big mystery in the area. Don't know if I have ever seen a team ranked #1 in preseason and then struggle to finish .500? Would be very surprised to see Conner be able to rebound and make it out of districts at this point.

You drop 45 on anybody that is a pretty good day at the office. The disappointing thing for Beechwood is that once again they give up a ton of points. Shumate is a good coach and he is probably going crazy with their inability to guard. The thing I have always liked about Shumates Beechwood teams is that they were always pretty solid on both sides of the floor. He needs his younger players to start buying into the concept of guarding somebody.

If they are talking about a full ride it would potentially be a blended scholarship with academic money, endowments, etc. Pretty much guarantee that it is not full athletic scholarship. NAIA schools have a total of 12 scholarships available for baseball. Mid Continent currently has 40+ players on their roster. Full scholarships in baseball are a rarity at every level.

Thelen pretty much unstoppable on the inside. CovCath probably shot close to 60% from the field for the game. Baker and Connelly also shot the ball well for CovCath Difference in the game was that Scott made 8 3's and CovCath made 0 for the game. Don't even know if they attempted that many with Thelen having his way down low. Scott just made more plays in the last 4 minutes of the game and that allowed them to come away with the W.

Holmes will be the first team that Scott has played recently that matches up with the 4 guard line up. Scott needs to turn Holmes into a jump shooting team and limit their penetration. Scott usually playes well at home. I will go with Scott by 6.....68-62

From Ryan Ernst blog in the Cincinnati Enquirer: NewCath senior Jake Giesler appears to be the frontrunner for the Enquirer boys’ basketball player of the year award, but things are far from over. Boone County‘s Trevan Brown is averaging 20.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game against an awfully tough schedule, and Scott guard Kellen Smith is probably the most dynamic player in the area. More than likely, it will come down to the postseason.

I think Hatton is a great player and will have an opportunity to put up some almost freakish numbers over the course of his career but if you are asking me about right now, this year I will take Smith. Hatton has the benefit of playing with arguably the best starting five in Northern Kentucky. He has a well defined role of scoring the basketball. He is playing with imo the 2nd best PG in Northern Kentucky in Matt Trammell. At this point in his career he is not asked to be a defensive stopper or be the leader on the court. Smith makes everyone on his team better. He is asked to do more than any player in N Ky. He brings a toughness and an edge to Scott that is a reflection of his coach. He leads Scott in scoring, assists, steals and defensive rebounds. He typically guards the other teams best player and has even guarded post players. While his stats alone put him in the conversation for POY his basketball IQ and the intangibles put him and Giesler as 1 & 1A in POY argument in my opinion. With that being said Hatton probably rings up three POY honors after this year but this year I would take Giesler or Smith.

So you are saying that Smith doesn't even belong in the conversation at this point? Thats a little 9th Region bias there....averaging 20 ppg, 8 apg and if you are talking about a straw that stirs the drink for their teams??? Has led his team to upset over #1 ranked Dixie and victory over a higher rated Boone County. People are also forgetting about the season that Nate Losey is having for Campbell County. Get the feeling that if Scott and Campbell were in the 9th they would be getting a lot more consideration for POY awards.

Kings will be a tough matchup for Brossart athletically. However, if Brossart can control the tempo and pick up a few charging fouls on the Kings that will go a long way to getting the win. Never bet against Brossartin the All A. Brossart 56-50

Not sure about 9th but in Northern Kentucky you have had Kellen Smith, Jake Thelen and Jake Giesler all score their 1000th point within the past couple of weeks. Would be interested to hear who else is getting close or has a shot to reach the milestone before the season ends.

Pouncy and O'Hara are two of the top officials in the state and their are a couple of the other guys that you feel pretty good about when they walk in the gym. Unfortunatley when Ron Allen retired and Jon Campbell moved onto the college ranks they just haven't been able to replace that quality of official. It's going to be tough adjustment for the 10th Region teams that are used to playing physical. Since usually only the top officials move onto post season play hopefully it won't be as tough as some of the regular season crews you see doing games.
