Hate to say it and I'm never one to blame officials for any loss, but the 3 man crew decided the outcome of this one. I've never seen such horrible officiating down the stretch of a game.

 

Holmes took a 69-68 lead and on the next possession, Campbell comes down and misses a shot with 16 seconds to go. Peterson grabs the rebound, is bent over holding the ball to force CC to foul on the baseline. He gets BUMPED (obvious foul) out of bounds and the referee calls a travel. Absolutely horrible.

 

CC gets another chance, Hayes blocks a 3 point attempt by Losey, scramble for the ball, Rice ties up Losey and has the ball in his hands, starts to dribble and they call a foul. Another HORRIBLE call.

 

Losey sinks 2 free throws with 6 seconds to go, Hayes is fouled driving the lane at other end and no call...Campbell wins.

 

Campbell had been staying outside almost the entire game and Holmes was driving to the rim so obviously there's a foul disparity. Campbell County fans start screaming at the refs (by last name, and I believe one was a CC grad) and all of a sudden the whistles start blowing anytime a Holmes player gets near a CC player.

 

Refs decided this one, regardless of who won, and that's a shame.

 

Losey and McGovney both looked very good for CC.

 

Holmes had balanced scoring with atleast 4 guys in double figures. Will have numbers in a little.

What about all the calls during the third and fourth quarter against Campbell Co. Holmes lived on the line the second half. At one point foul total was 15 to 5 ! Holmes was in the bonus at the start of the fourth quarter. Maybe it was about time some calls went the Camels way.

9th region overall talent level is down this year and the 9th is wide open this year.

I agree Walter. The last 15 seconds were horrible by the officiating (definitely the worst I've seen this year). Holmes never should have been in that position. They missed too many free throws down the stretch. They had the ball with the last shot in regulation and didn't get a real good look. They also could have scored at the end of OT but Hayes tripped, bad break. Losey kept the Camels in the game ( he had to had 25-30). Best shooter I've seen this year. At least tonight. Overall, the Camels were gritty, Holmes has played better and didn't make the plays when they needed to.

I don't know about this game because I wasn't there...but the officiating is horrible anywhere you go anymore

The officiating did not cost Holmes the game. Three times they had the ball at the end of the first, second and third quarters and held it until less than 6 seconds to go before trying to score. That's not going to work, I don't care who the referees are. The one that was called by their last name is not a CCHS grad. Holmes certainly had plenty of free throws to put the game away when nearly all the calls were going their way. It was a great win for the Camels. The Bulldogs don't lose too many in Covington. If a team is hitting from the outside the way the Camels were, why did Holmes play zone for so much of the game. McGovney was big time in the first half and Losey got hot at the end. Josh Graff played a good game as well for the Camels.

10th is way better than the 9th this year.

Yea Holmes was getting calls because they were ATTACKING THE RIM and drawing contact while CC elected to settle for jumpers.

 

Holmes fan, Campbell fan, any fan, the calls against Holmes down the stretch in OT that gave Campbell multiple chances to win the game were garbage and you know it.

 

Pretty sure the Campbell fans were complaining that the refs were deciding the game, but my how the tone changes when CC comes out on the other side.

 

If anything, the foul that sent Losey to the line for the winning free throws should've been called a jump ball and Campbell takes it out in front of their own bench with 6.6 seconds left.

Wow! I wasn't at the game so I won't comment about the officials... You have to put games away, I try to coach in a way that you take care of business and you don't have to worry about calls... Wish Holmes could have pulled it out but I guess it didn't go there way!

No one seems to say anything about all of the none calls that I feel Holmes had way more than their share of during regulation and in the overtime. Both teams were on the court with bad reffing, but to point out a couple of calls that you say changed the outcome game. I was sitting on the 2nd row next to the Holmes Pep Band and it was a horrible call. Peterson was waiting to get fouled, they did foul intentionally because you have to(you've seen that a million times). Again, a horrible call, but not why the Bulldogs lost. They missed their shots at critical moments and missed way too many free throws.
