Holmes really missed Mayfield's defensive presence on the perimeter last night. Would've loved to see him chasing around Losey last night.

The issue with 9th Region officials is simplyy depth. The top 5-6 officials in this region are as good as officals from any region. Once you get past that group the decline is pretty severe. 10th Region teams are really going to struggle with the style of 9th Region officiating.

This was a great game to watch (win or lose). Congrats to the Camel team and Coach Russell. They are really beginning to gel as a squad. Every player contributed to this win.

I hate to see folks blame the officials for a loss. Pretty simple - don't let your team get in a position to lose at the end of the game and things take care of themselves.

Campbell Co and Newcath have been two teams that have always played the Dogs tough, regardless of the talent that Holmes has had over the years.

 

I agree with your last statement. It is what it is. Just needed to vent a little over the events that took place during the last minute or so of the game. Both teams had to deal with the officiating and if Holmes takes care of business and make their free throws while in the bonus and double bonus, they never put themselves in that position.

 

Congrats to the Camels on the W. Losey, Graff, and McGovney are all three very nice players, as stated by several posters already in this thread.

Russell's style of letting the kids play a little more freely will do wonders for that Campbell Co program. Seems like the team is a lot more confident than in years' past because they don't have to worry about being sat for making a mistake at either end of the floor.

 

(This is not a knock at Coach Code either because I personally think he is an outstanding coach and great person.)

Yes very different! The 9th Region officials love hearing the sound of their whistles. 9th Region officiating is horrible!

Well then hopefully the top 5 or 6 are selected to do the 10th Region tourney.

 

Coach Code at Brossart, Russell at Campbell, Carr at Scott and Humphrey at GRC all should be familiar with 9th Region officiating, as they all either played in the region or coached in it. I think in the past it was called much differently, noi so much today. Last years boys state finals had the 9th region ref Pouncey officiating the contest. (He must have rated out okay.)

Pouncy and O'Hara are two of the top officials in the state and their are a couple of the other guys that you feel pretty good about when they walk in the gym. Unfortunatley when Ron Allen retired and Jon Campbell moved onto the college ranks they just haven't been able to replace that quality of official. It's going to be tough adjustment for the 10th Region teams that are used to playing physical.

 

Since usually only the top officials move onto post season play hopefully it won't be as tough as some of the regular season crews you see doing games.
