  1. Arrived around 7:00 last night. Staying in the Patriots Point/Mt Pleasant section of town. Had a late dinner/drinks at the Shem Creek Bar & Grill. Took an early morning run around Patriots Point and the harbor. Very impressed with the College of Charleston athletic facilities we passed this morning on the run. Heading out to the Southern Ground Music Festival this afternoon. Looking forward to seeing Willie Nelson and Zac Brown Band!
  2. We had already planned on visiting Ft Sumter as I am a history buff. Not into the fishing but we have scheduled a kayak tour thru one of the local wildlife sanctuaries. Definitely looking to sample the local cuisine!
  3. Heading down to Charleston next week for a little fall vacation. Taking in the Southern Ground Music Festival on the weekend. Have a little golf planned along with some kayaking and taking in some of the historical tours. What else do I need to do? Any suggestions on restaurants, etc.....?
  4. Good level for Ruthsatz and a good get for Findlay. Like most players he will have some adjustments to the college game. With the shot clock his ability to create space will be a positive in late clock situations. You don't see a lot of freshmen PG's starting in the conference and Findlay will have some very good guards on campus when he gets there.
  5. It is going to take a year to establish the camp with local coaches and with the college coaches as well. I think the camp fills a void in this area and has the potential to grow into a great opportunity for local student athletes
  6. Event organizers can apply for an exemption thru KHSAA and individual players can apply for a one weekend exemption to attend an Elite Camp or Showcase type event after the first day of school. I think it is a KHSAA rule and not a national federation rule. Dont agree with the rule as I think it limits Ky kids opportunities but all good intentions aside the rule has been on the books for awhile. Cost the Dixie PG a game or two a couple of years ago
  7. Played at Deer Run Country Club on the west side of Cincinnati yesterday and the course was in fantastic shape. Greens and fairways were in outstanding shape. Played it last year and came away very unimpressed but got a great deal on GolfNow and decided to give it another shot. It's a hike from Northern Kentucky but all in all was a good day at the course.
  8. I think we have talked about tis in another thread about Ruthsatz and his D1 potential. Only takes one D1 school to make the offer and you are a D1 player. I had the opportunity to sit with 4 very good D2 coaches in Indy to watch Ruthsatz. Two thought he was very good and thought he would be a very good player in their conference. The other two did not like his game and did not think he would be a good fit in their progams. It's going to have to be the right system at either level for Ruthsatz to be successful at the next level.
  9. Not sure about averaging over 100 ppg but they are one of the highest scoring if not the highest scoring teams annually at the D2 level. Their philosphy has been that they will just out score you and not overly concerned defensively. They press, trap and gamble on defense to speed up the game and get more possessions.
  10. If you are looking for a perfect fit with style of play West Liberty fits Ruthsatz perfectly.
  11. Greg Rice never played D1? After JUCO played collegiately at Central State which was at that time was an independent D2? There are a lot of D2 players who get the opportunity to play professionally (Cory Pelle) but you cannot classify them as D1 players. Happy for Greg that he is playing professionally but technically not a D1 player.
  12. Good points made by all. When you look at the demographics of Northern Kentucky the largest schools tend to be suburban schools. The schools that you would classify as inner city have seen enrollments decline. Basketball is seen as the main sport in the inner city schools. I think you also have to look at the style of play at the high school level in this area. Because of the type of athlete that makes up the majority of the student bodies you get a game that is not as athletic and is more controlled by the coach. High school coaches in this area have just started to embrace the fact that AAU can be a very important piece to a players development in the right program and is absolutely crucial in the recruiting process. While we do not typically see the high major type player very often in this area I think there tends to be a bias that we look at the players being recruited at high major schools and say that all of D1 is made up of that type of athlete. Take the bottom 200 schools in D1 and the rosters are full of players with body styles, athletic ability and basketball skills that you see in athletes in Northern Kentucky. In the past Northern Kentucky has been very provencial in its AAU programs as players tended to play with players from their area and high school and maybe were coached by a parent. These small independent teams did not stray from their comfort zone locally and often when they did travel to major events were not very successful. Parents and players did not understand the value of competing with other high level athletes on thier own team and against them in tournament play. Their is value in an organization that has an Alumni page. College coaches recognize and follow programs as much as they follow individual players. I am of the opinion that Northern Kentucky has taken some significant strides in the past 5-6 years that should lead to more recognition and opportunities at the higher levels. In addition to the players in that time that have been recruited play at the D1 level there has been an increase in players playing successfully at the D2 level. When you look at Thelen, Smith, Gabbard, O'Conner, 2 Sorrells, Foster all playing well at that level that gets coaches attention. I think you can see that in the amount of D2 offers currently out to the class of 2014. In addition you have the growth of high level AAU programs like the Travelers and the Magic where Northern Kentucky kids have had an opportunity to play and compete on the big stage. As those players continue to have success that will open doors for other players from Northern Kentucky. These are all baby steps but I think the depth of basketball in this area continues to improve and as more players move onto the D1 & D2 levels and have success that will lead to more coaches taking notice of players from this area.
  13. Has also added an offer from Christian Brothers, a very good D2 program in Tenn
  14. Duran was a very good player with tons of ability and potential but if you are talking about true PG's and running their team Kellen Smith from Scott was the better player. Led the area in assists for 3 straight years, shattered the all time assist record at Scott and is also in the top 5 in scoring. 3 time district tournament MVP and when you talk to coaches his leadership and his competitiveness were his two best qualities.
  15. I watched both of them for their entire high school career and I woud take Sharp over Jackson.Sharp was a tough physical point guard who scored, rebounded and defended. His senior year at Scott was one of the best seasons ever for a player at Scott.
  16. Go back to the 10 year limit and you have to include Nate Sharp in the starting five. Sharp and Kellen Smith are the two best players in the Carr era EJ Murray and Pouncy were not as good as Chris Quigley and Ryne Smith from Carr's earlier teams. Would have to include Kyle Howard in the starting 5 over Daniel O'Conner. Nick Hiller didn't even play most of his senior season so it would be tough to include him in any list.
  17. Saw Findlay at 3 of Schulte's games. I know that Christian Brothers, Saginaw Valley State and Lincoln Memorial were in attendence as well to check in on him.
  18. Keylo Jones was also a transfer into Scott and was probably a more impactful player than Roberts. Jones played on the frontline with O'Conner & Niederegger on a very athletic Scott team.
  19. Played 9 at AJ Jolly yesterday and thought the course was in really good shape. Good to have them back in operation. It is one of my favorite places to sneak away and get in 9 holes.
  20. If Ms Thamann was not a principal at the time of the incident what positon did she hold? What would the chain of command have been for her to report the incident? Northern Kentucky by nature is a very provencial place to live. There aren't a lot of secrets especially in these types of incidents. There were multiple students involved and multiple parents. At the time of the incident not a single involved parent thought it was serious enough to report it or take any additional action? Also hard to believe that knowledge of the incident didn't reach administrative personnel within the school system without an actual report of complaint. I know that if this would have happened in my school district which is similar to Boone County in size that many if not most of the details would have been common knowledge much sooner than 2 years down the road.
  21. Very good basketball IQ as a player and would assume that would transfer as a coach. Saw him officiate a few games last year and thought he was real solid as an official on the JV & Freshmen level. Thought he was one of those guys like Romes who could be a really good varsity official in a very short time. Solid hire for Holy Cross.
  22. :banghead: Not meaning to toss you under the bus and we have all earned membership into Clyde's club at one time or another. You just happened to hit upon one of my soap box issues. It is difficult to play basketball at the college level whether D1, D2, D3, NAIA, etc......I get to about 20-25 D2 games per season and I can attest to the quality of the teams and the players. From a historical recruiting perspective N Ky only produces a couple of D1 & D2 kids per year. I root for the local kids, make phone calls to college coaches on their behalf but sometimes the misinformation on recruiting makes me a little crazy. Hope the kid works his tail off and ends up at a Tusculum or another D2 or D1 school. Wouldn't be the first time I have had a little crow served to me via BGP!
  23. This show and Walking Dead are my two guilty pleasures on TV. I hold both of them in equal esteem!
  24. Unless there have been changes to the D2 off campus recruiting rules they could not have sent him a letter without it being an NCAA violation. They cannot send him recruiting material until September 1 of his junior year. Just because a kid plays up doesn't release the staff of the responsibility to make sure they are not breaking the rules when sending out the recruiting materials. Same applies to phone calls as they are not permitted until June 15 prior to senior year at the D2 level. As a freshmen he could have received camp materials but nothing else from the athletic department Tusculum is not a small Tennessee school as they are a very good D2 school in a really good conference. It's really hard to be recruited to the D2 level.
  25. Define look? You don't see a lot of D2 schools involved with freshmen outside of their geographical area much less one who hasn't played much if any above freshmen ball? Who is he playing for this summer?
