  1. Yes and if you will notice closely, I said I didn't think there were any BAD guards on GOOD NBA teams. But again I reiterate that I think the lower the level the more important guards are, because the higher the level the better and more skilled at every aspect are all the rest of the players.
  2. First of all, I don't think there are any "BAD" point guards on good NBA teams. They may not be the stars, or even an all-star, but they are solid at least. The lower the level the more important it is I think. I have had a couple of teams that had good players at most positions except for point guard. The person I played at point was a good 2 guard, but not a point, and I had no one else who could play that position. We had a good year record wise, but in the playoffs and a few times in the regular season we would play an athletic team that played FC man and we struggled badly to get the ball up the court or get into our offense or any of our sets. We didn't mind teams that zone pressed us, as we could get in the right spots and get the ball up the floor, but against really good athletic man, you need someone to break down the defense, and without a good point guard, or someone with good ballhandling skills etc...(no matter what size or position) you are not going to win against teams that play really good man D, and are very athletic to go along with that. On the other hand I had several teams that was loaded with guys that had at least good point guard skills and had very little or no post presence, and we won at the highest level with some of those teams. The worst part is some years I have had neither, and that is when it is really bad, like this year and we finished 16-8. Fun to argue about and listen to others ideas. I am just going by my own experience in coaching.
  3. Ballard, J-town, & Manual are all fairly young I think. I look for Warren Central to be back in the thick of things after a rebuilding year also. Scott County also returns Guyn and the 8th grader.
  4. I think everyone is making valid points. Of course everyone wants to have a good point guard and everyone wants to have a good post player or inside presence, but if you had to be without one or the other, I think you have no chance of winning at any level without a good point guard, and although it is extra tough, you still have a chance of being very successful without a really good inside player. I have coached for a long time, and have won several state chamipionships (in Florida), but my most miserable years were years I did not have a good point guard. Even on some of my best teams I didn't have much of an inside presence. I would love to have both, but if I was forced to make a choice, give me guards.
  5. What defense is Hatch playing now, mostly man or mostly zone, or a big mixture! Graves was always one of the leading defensive teams in the state while Hatcher was there.
  6. Why is it that Coach Henley is rarely mentioned in the state's top coaches threads. From what I have seen and read, he seems very deserving.
  7. Were any of these bad losses at home, or all on the road or neutral courts?
  8. Was LC actually in Vegas or did they just play a team from Vegas in Florida?? I am figuring their flight from Florida got messed up instead of their flight from Vegas. Either way it makes it tough, and sounds to me like one very tired team, and another tired team who was playing and sleeping at home had an outstanding game with each other, and should have another in about 19 days I think it is.
  9. How does this bracket work. I understand if they win playing Mt. Vernon or Roosevelt, but what about the Rice game and the other game and then advancing????? Just wondering?
  10. 2 years ago they had an online feed. Last year hooptv was there filming and you could by the videos for $20 i think it was. Not sure about this year. The newspaper does a pretty good job with their online version of keeping the tourney updated. Who do they play in the 1st round? I'll be down there Friday & Saturday, and hopefully will see them play a couple of games.
  11. I guess the article is no longer there. I wouldn't think it would be gone this soon, but there are only 3 articles that show up, or maybe I am doing something wrong.:irked::confused:
  12. Kind of funny that they are ranked I think it was 47 or 48 by Rivals, but says they are coached by Curtis Turley.
  13. Didn't they have a pretty good summer. Seems like i remember them losing to Ballard in the quarters maybe by only 1. I know Ballard lost alot too, but I think they are going to be much better than people think, which bodes well for Male if they played right with them.
  14. Excuse my ignorance, but who is the Adams kid, and what does he bring to the table for Coach Hicks and Scott County???
  15. Is there any way to order one online. I am in Florida, but would love to get one, especially for the high school material.
  16. As tough as Scott Co. & Lex. Cath. are going to be, the thought of going undefeated when you are playing in a tourney as strong as the Iolani in Hawaii, or in Scott Co.'s case of the City of Palms, going undefeated is very unlikely. The positive in both cases is that with these teams schedule they will be even more ready come playoff time. It should be a great season all the way to the end. Good luck to all.
  17. It seems J-town has at least a very good team every year for the past several years, but yet Jeff Morrow is never mentioned when top coaches are discussed. I have never seen his teams play so I am just asking. Is it just because he has great talent every year, or should he be mentioned alot more often than he is as far as top coaches go.
  18. So do we know if this kid (Guyn) is at Scott County or at J-town???
  19. With all the coaching changes so far, what changes do you think will impact their program the most. I think Hatcher, Just, Holland, Starns, & McCoy will have the biggest impact.
  20. As a coach (in another state) I know that there are many times a coach will enquire or even pursue another job with the understanding and agreement between the involved parties that if they are not the one chosen for the job that their identity remain anonymous, therefore protecting them with their present administration. I have also seen coaches want their identity revealed to let their administration etc... know that they are looking and are not satisfied with their present situation for some or many reasons.
  21. Anyone know who won that tourney??? There were alot of Ky. teams in it. Just wondering.
  22. Anyone have the score/spread of the LC-Ballard game?? Who all looked good here? How did Manual and Jeffersonville do?
  23. Obviously not a huge following of board members lol. Hopefully someone will have some results eventually on how many of the top teams did.
  24. Any predictions here?? I know quite a few very good teams are entered. Among them Ballard, Male, Manual, Fern Creek, PRP, Lex. Catholic, J-town, Fairdale, Jeffersonville, Indiana with new coach Tim LaGrange, Eastern, Central, Shelby Co. just to name a few.
