Heres the new schedule of games and time Mason County will have while in Hawaii.

 

Tuesday 12/18 Leilehua,HW 10PM

 

Thursday 12/20 2:30 p.m. vs. the loser of the Roosevelt vs. Mt. Vernon,NY game

or

8:30 p.m. vs the winner of the Roosevelt vs. Mt. Vernon,NY game

Both these teams are top 20 in the nation,

 

 

Saturday, Dec. 23

1 a.m. Mason County vs. Rice,NY

8:30 p.m. Mason County vs. Iolani,HW

 

Rice is a top 5 team in the nation and Iolani is the host school and ranked #2 in Hawaii.:scared:

 

Royals will have there work cut out for them with 3 top 20 teams in the nation to play,Should only make them better for it though.Just hope they have fun with all the big press and great teams and players that are there.All times i posted are Mason County time zone so i will try and give updates on these games when played.They come home and have 2 days to get ready for the 5/3 Holiday tourney in Lexington.:scared:

mhighfield, I am surprised that your not with the team in Hawaii. I thought they would give you a free ticket to handle all the public relations duties that you give the Royals or at least discount the ticket. This would only seem fair to do.:lol:

I would have been there,BUT i couldnt get off work for a week at Christmas time.Sometimes even being the boss cant get you off.:pWill be the only games i miss all year.

What a opportunity for these players, coaches and fans. Hope you win it all.:thumb:

After just getting back from filling up my car in this cold & wind; I can emphatically say "I'M JEALOUS"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck Royals--Make the Bluegrass proud!!

How did Mason work this out financially? Have they been fundraising to make it work? Is the tournament host paying for a large part of the trip? Are shoe companies sponsoring the trip in hopes of getting closer to Darius? Do they have to let the girls go on a similar trip to stay within the requirements of title IX? Do they need any tutors to go with them so the boys don't get behind on their studies - and where do I send a resume?????

That really doesn't seem fair to any sophmores that may be on the team. Would they have had the same policy if this trip was two years ago? :sssh:

I have been to Hawaii a couple of times, we are talking around 2 grand a person, including coaching, they must be doing more than just selling banners! Its not every day a high school basketball team leaves the mainland!

 

Plato is it really legal for shoe sponser's to pay for a high school team to go somewhere?

Where does Title IX come into play here. I believe that the banners sold in the Field House are monies that the school is entitltled to and not the program. Are the girl's being given the same opportunity that the boys have?

 

I would hope that Mason County is doing things the right way here when it comes to Title IX.

Mason County took ten players including Phil Barner who is a Sophmore. MC had orginally planned to take 12 players but some of the orginal players are no longer on the team so they took 10 players. Also, heard the team arrived safe and sound and was in their Hotel around 3AM (EST).

I think this is an absolute awesome trip that these kids get to be a part of. Kudos to the Mason County program and the leadership of the athletic department, Coach Ohearn and staff. I can assure you that things are done first class and respectable and all the I's are dotted and T's are crossed in compliance. I would like to look at it as a reward and recognition to the program and kids on developing a solid program through many years of hard work on and off the court. National recognition, support from the fans(around 100 fans made the trip) follows kids that do the right things, programs that do the right things, and that is why Mason County is in Hawaii and I hope that they represent the state of Kentucky in a way that we can all be proud of.
