This is a long running rivalry that has lost a bit of its luster the past few years as it has become one-sided the Jackets way. That being said though, I know that several of the coaches at Williamsburg never won against Pineville in their playing days. This should be a good game for the Jackets going into the playoffs, but this young team needs to take care of business and not look past those Lions. I think Coach Herron can motivate these young Jackets to take care of Pineville, 48-14.

With the Jackets losses to graduation this year, Thomas Frazier at QB, Chase Hamlin at receiver, and Aaron Root at the Linebacker slot (all 3 were either district or conference players of the year), everyone thought this would be a down year. For the Jackets to be the #1 seed and have within their grasp the potential to win 8 or 9 games now, shows what a good job this coaching staff, led by 2nd year head coach Jerry Herron has done. This team, which is extremely young, has the potential to be special. When you look at all the under classmen playing, what they have accomplished thus far is amazing. I know Coach Herron would be the first to give all the credit to the kids, but in my opinion He is the district Coach of the year with the job he and his staff have done. Good luck to the Jackets with Pineville next week, and then on to a successful playoff!

Jackets d steps up with 3 goal line stands in this one. Jackets seemed a bit flat after last week's huge win. Hughlett made 3 of the biggest stops of the year on D, and Phillips absolutely blew up the QB on one stand. Thought Jake Moses made some nice plays at safety as well. # 42 for Evarts is a really nice player, runs hard down hill and brings it on D. With Lynn Camp's loss I believe the Jackets secure Home field advantage. Good luck Jackets next week in the rivalry game with Pineville!

Ok... Corbin is pretty good I'll grant that. But having seen Coles the last 2 years he is a great equalizer. You could play man under with help over the top, but its not the deep ball he will kill you with. Somerset runs one of the best screen games to wideouts I've seen at the HS level. If they are able to get the ball to Coles in space it could be Katie - bar- the -door, he is that good. If this was at Corbin I'd pick the hounds, but at the patch Somerset is tough....I'll say 28-24 Somerset and buck the odds here.

The young Jackets are flying pretty high right now after defeating arch rival Lynn Camp last Friday. The Jackets are in a 3 way tie for first and they control their destiny as far as the playoffs go. They need a win against former district and traditional rival Everats this week. This will be another dog fight as Evarts is traditionally a grind it out, physical offense. The Jackets D played very physical against the Campers causing several turnovers. The Jacket O righted itself and put up 40 points and over 400 yards in the win. Can the Jackets stop the physical O of Evarts? Can The Moses to Brock Combo stay hot? I think yes to both and see the Jackets on top 42-28.

As far as where this defense was earlier, you have to remember only 2 starters on d played signifigantly on d last year. Youth takes time to learn and mature. The great thing is that this is something to build on!

Where's this one at?

Personally, we think the world of Jim Black. He did an outstanding job at Williamsburg and, in my opinion will do so at Whitley. I watched Whitlley at Lynn Camp and saw two guys coaching their butts off...Coach Black, and the Lawson boy, who I understand is an unpaid volunteer. The rest of the coaches seemd to stand around alot. So maybe those folks grumbling about coaches should look beyond the head guy. If I'm not mistaken didn't coach Black inherit his staff? The thing that was always a frustration for me in coaching HS was the fact most of the time I inherited what was there, in college the folks I coached with brought their handpicked staff in....I may be off base, just an observation. I hope Jim turns this around as I think he is a fine man, and an excellent coach.

Wow, what a game! Say what you want, but this was the best game the Jacket D has played. Both teams are young and play alot of kids both ways, and with such potent offenses points were going to be scored. The off week was brilliant scheduling as all 3 of the Moses boys were able to heal a bit. Phillips and Hughlett looked better at ILB, and the coaches came up with a nice game plan on both sides of the ball. The nicest thing I saw was the Jackets were very physical in this game....there were a ton of licks on both team's part, but I think if one was honest the Jackets wanted this one bad and outhit the Campers....somebody had to cause those fumbles, they didn't just fall out on their own. The dark spot on the night was Rosskopf's injury. Hope its not too serious, and that rehab will do the trick. He's an excellent HS player. Best of luck to both teams as the playoffs near. As for the Jackets, all year I've heard "We Believe"...I think you finally do.

Having a hard time typing this through the tears, Thank God for young people like these. It sure restores my faith in our future in this country.

Whitley is using the spread, but they have been running out of it. I believe they have been at least 60 - 40 rushing with the exception of this game where they had to throw after falling behind 28 - 0 to try to get back in the game. What shocked me was how flat Whitley was. If you watch Lynn Camp you know they are going to run power, lead, counter, and toss, and that Rosskopf is getting it between 25 to 35 times a game. I'm sure the Whitley coaches stressed this as you could hear them calling Lynn Camp's plays from the sideline and the top of the press box with at least 75% accuracy, but the kids couldn't or at least didn't make plays. I think Jim Black is a superb head coach, but I think he has a tough situation at Whitley. I hope that it is just a situation of being young out there, and hope the Colonels improve rapidly. Lynn Camp smacked Whitley in the mouth and made them like it.

Well here we go...the Burg and the Campers. Lynn Camp brings in an impressive running attack led by, I believe, the best running back in the mountains, Joe Rosskopf. The Jackets offense has shown they can put points on the board. Will the Jackets youthful D be able to slow the "J" train enought to outscore the Campers? My heart belongs to the Jackets, but my head understands how goood Lynn Camp is. I'll say this, the winner of this game will be wearing orange...lol.

I don't know how alot of states handle this, but in states I've coached you have clearly defined boundries for school attendance. The only way a transfer in these other states is allowed to play and not sit out a year is to move into a new school district and transfer at the time of move. Seldom have I experienced a move such as the one described and seen the child eligible to play.

Tyler Rollins at Williamsburg is having an outstanding year. He's one of those tweener kids at 6'1" and about 240, but has a motor that doesn't quit, and is nasty.

I don't think anyone overlooked Southern, it was one of those games young teams have. Williamsburg is really hurting with 2 big starters out on defense, and Will Moses was only about 75%. You are seeing growing pains, especially at QB and receiver. Williamsburg had receivers running free but couldn't get the ball to them, and when they could, too many drops. This was agame that neither team seemed to wanted to seize. Frustrating I'm sure for fans and coaches on both sides. Hopefully the Jackets bounce back as district play begins again with Campbellsville next week.

The small town rumour mill is flying today....did a player at Whitley get suspended? If true it may hurt the Colonels Chances. I won't say what the rumour is as I do not want to name names or continue gossip, just wondering if it is true.

Where is the game being played? If at McCreary I'd favor the Raiders, if not I'll take the Indians.

Ahh that is the mark of a young team....Can the Burg overcome adversity and beat Southern. I think Jake Moses and Jordan Hughlette will be out this game, which may mean a couple more freshmen on defense. The o-line will have to protect better, and Ryan Moses will need to make good decisions. From observation I think Jerry Herron and staff have done a very nice job with this young team, but now after a physical game with Cumberland, how do they press forward. I have enough faith that this staff will pull things together and right this young ship. It wil not be a pretty game but I'll take the Jackets by 5.

All the Redhound fans will have my head on this but, I have seen both play, and Corbin will have a very tough time with LCA's speed. I'd take LCA 42 to 31

Williamsburg's youth and depth were exposed tonight by a good C'land team. Injuries really hurt the "burg tonight. Gilliam for C'land is very very good. The Burg will rebound and get better, but folks need to remember how young this team is and be supportive. I will say this, you better get the Jackets this year because they will be much more mature next year with losing only 2 seniors.

You cannot evaluate on the grid. When I coached and we played in Grids, jamborees or whatever you want to call it, we played JV kids and I never sent starters out for more than one series. Grids are a fine thing but why get starters hurt in a scrimmage that doesn't count?Heck, one year we only ran 2 different plays on offense in a grid, and on d we never stunted but stayed in base the whole time. Personally I don't like Grids,I'd rather have another scrimmage and see where I need work.Also, I hate showing much in a grid for others to prepare game plans on. As for home cooking, thats always a matter for interpretation. I'm sure every one feels they have suffered homecooking at some point, and I heard enough about home cooking in last year's playoff loss at Harlan. Not sure, in all the years I played and coached I ever really lost on "home cooking". There were times calls didn't go my way, but when I looked at film I could always see why we lost.

I think that's what will make this game interesting as the Jackets are also looking for that "statement" game. Last Years game was one of the best, or should I say excting, games I have ever seen. The Jackets pulled out a big win on a messy track against a good Cumberland team. I think there will be alot of points in this one, but I think the Jackets have an edge when their offense is clicking the way it has been thus far. Could very well be whoever has the ball last wins. I think Cumberland's delima will be to decide on whether to send the house to pressure Ryan Moses, or to try to cover Brock, Pettit, Brown, and Will Moses.

This will be the last time these two long running rivals play. Cumberland is very athletic, and Williamsburg has that high octane offense. This should be a heck of a game. Cumberland is on the road, and the youthful Jackets grew up a bit against a tough, hard hitting Bath Co. squad last week. If the game were at Cumberland I would give the Redskins an edge, but I think the Jackets have a nice bit of momentum going, so I'll take the Jackets in a barn burner....Williamsburg 41 Cumberland 32
