Williamsburg piles up over 500 yards in offense again tonight. Overall the defense is getting better. What so many forget is this is a very young team, only 2 seniors start and get signifigant playing time. I will agree with an earlier poster, this coaching staf, led by Jerry Herron is doing a really nice job of bringing these kids along. Bath is a pretty good football team and the Jackets desrve some respect for going on a long trip, playing a tough team and getting away with a solid win. Say what you want but the Burg is 3-1 right now. I'll take it!

I dont really know alot about Bath Co., but this week the Jackets travel there for a road contest. Williamsburg continues to impress on offense with triggerman Ryan Moses showing improvement each week. Aaron Brock and Dusty Moses have really come on at the receiver slots, and both Will Moses and Jake Moses had impressive nights rushing the ball. I thought the offensive line gave a flash of what is to come against Clinton Co. and hope they will continue to improve as a unit. Tyler Rollins looks really good at tackle and the interior play of Abner, Phillips, Collins and Hopkins will be the key for a win against Bath. Defensively, the return of Jordan Hughelett was evident. Jake Moses and Garret Phillips also provided some spark at the LB slots, and Lowery seems to be improving at safety. The d line is young and mistake prone, but gives alot of effort. I'm impressed with that freshman class and look for big things as they gain more experience.I'm guessing that Bath will be big and physical and will be a formindable opponent this week. Since we bleed orange, I'll go with the Jackets in a nail biter, 34-30.

As a Williamsburg fan I can understand your comments. Year in and Year out we are one of the smallest football playing schools in the state. I always enjoyed our rivalry with Harlan and will miss it. I enjoyed the year we beat Somerset with our "middle school defense" (direct quote from Coach Cobb, btw). I always felt the Harlan folks were classy towards us, and I hope we were to them. I will say though the times I spent at Somerset as a visitor were horrid. I won't go into details as I'm sure it would end up in a peeing contest on who treated who worse, I'll just say that Somerset had no where near the class Harlan did, and I wish Harlan the best this year and in the future.

The Lowery kid also played well at safety, and the o-line led by Rollins and Abner showed improvement. I heard the Burg actually had more yards rushing than passing...wonder when the last time that happened? What was Pettit's injury? Heard we were pretty healthy after the game.

I may be wrong on this but doesn't this give Ryan Moses over 800 yards passing and Aaron Brock over 400 yards receiving in 3 games? Wonder where each stands in state ratings. I wouldn't be surprised if each is in the top 3 at least in clas a in their respective catagories.

Williamsburg ends up with over 500 yards total Offense. Another good game from Ryan Moses at the QB slot. Aaron Brock is turning into a huge reciever for the Jackets, and Dusty Brown is as tough as they come. It was very nice to see Jordan "Sunshine" Huelett return from injury at the LB slot on D. The youthful Jacket defenders come up big tonight, Andrew Root causes a fumble and recovers, Cody Perkins makes a few plays behind the line, and Sunshine, Jake Moses, and Garret Phillips look much better at LB. The Jackets d is still very average at d-end, and must improve there for the d to continue to get better. Clinton's best plays were toss sweeps, so the Jackets have to get better on the edges! Overall though a very good Aluni Bowl for the Jackets.

Williamsburg comes in at 1-1 with a loss to LCA and a come back win in a track meet with McCreary 58-54. Clinton Comes in at 0-2 in the first district match up of the year. Williamsburg has proven to be able to score, Ryan Moses has over 500 yards passing in 2 games, and Aaron Brock and Dusty Brown have proven to be big time receivers. Will Moses is averaging over 100 yards a game rushing. The Achilles heel for the Jackets has been the defense which at times couldn't tackle in a phone booth. The Watts kid for McCreary is good, but at times he made Williamsburg's D look like middle schoolers. Have heard Clinton Co. likes the run and plays power football. Will the young Jacket defenders be improved and be able to contain Cliton's O? I think the youthful d, after the experience gained last week will improve enough to let the high octane offense have the ball and score. I'll take the Jackets in this one 35-21.

As is said before this game, Williamsburg's offense can score. They will have to outscore people this year as they will have to play young folks on defense to keep the offense fresh. I did see some nice effort out of some of the freshman on d. Chris Lowery had a couple of nice plays on d, and Andrew Root and Cody Perkins surprised me on the d line as they had Mcreary's O Line moving back quite often. Hopefully these 3 and others will mature fast and improve the Jackets D. Excellent game by Ryan Moses at QB, and I thought the Jacket O Line was much improved over the LCA game.

Saw this kid play...he's the real deal!

This one could be a dog fight or a track meet. How much does the burg improve from week 1 to week 2? I think Williamsburg has enough offfensive talent to put points on the board, but does the defense have enough for a few stops? I have heard there will be some younger kids playing defense to keep the offense fresh, can the staff scheme with these younger kids? I bleed orange so I'm going to say the burg answers these questions this week and wins a hard fought game 34 to 14.

Having played back in the 70's I cant print alot of the funny ones i heard due to language, however here goes: "we're so dang slow we look like turtles at a track meet" "they way we're hitting those boys I hope your mommas and daddies have sons next time" "hey so and so, are ya gonna block him or just keep kissing him all night" Just a few....gee seems like manhood got questioned alot back then...lol

I heard Whitley moved the ball well in the Middlesboro game but had problems with ball security. Having seen Bell in scrimmages, if this continues to be a problem, Bell will run away with this one.

After having had a couple of days reflection here are some observations from the game: 1. Williamsburg will be fine on offense, nearly 500 yards against LCA. Ryan Moses did not have a great night, but it was better than average, and I think he matured in this one. Not bad, he didn't get the "deer in the headlights" look for starting his first game in a big city environment. I think as the season goes on he will continue to mature and impress. 2. Pretty decent running game by Williamsburg overall. I thought LCA was a bit soft in the front 7, I could be wrong though. Will Moses shows good speed but doesn't appear to see the field real well. As he matures he will need to see the lanes and hit them. # 23 carried once but is a step slow. Taylor did a good job finding openings for first downs on QB running plays, and Ryan Moses looked fairly good when he pulled the ball down to run. 3. Williamsburg's defensive front and backers seemed a step slow. Backers very hesitant and seemed to wait on the play instead of seeing it and attacking it. The exception appeared to be the Phillips kid, as he did come forward. 4. Williamsburg's youth and depth showed. The problem you are always going to have at such a small school is playing so many kids both ways. Williamsburg's offense can and will score, they probably should have had two more scores in this game. The solution the coaching staff will have to find is putting together a defense that can get just enough stops to let the offense outscore their opponents. 5. LCA is pretty dang good! I see them getting at least thru the 2nd round of the playoffs. They aren't as physical as I expected, but are very well disciplined, and excute the things they do very well. Well, for what its worth that was my observation of this one. I look forward to seeing how Williamsburg looks in game 2 against McCreary. When I coached I always said the most signifigant improvement was between games 1 and 2.

After watching Williamsburg in the Panorama against Harlan I came away with a few observations. Coach Herron's play calling was very good. Williamsburg was stopped only twice by turnovers...no punts. Coach Herron mixed runs and passes well and kept Harlan off balance throughout the scrimmage. Defensively I thought Coach Hatcher's plan was sound, but the young Jackets were caught out of position a few times. I can see the coaches fixing this very quickly. It will be interesting to see how the coaching staff handles LCA, a team very similar to the Jackets in offensive philosophy. If the o-line can handle LCA up front, and the Jackets can get a few stops, Saturday at LCA could be an interesting night.

Cole killed us on the screen more than the deep ball. If Somerset gets the ball in his hands in space he is dominating.

What's going on at Bell?

Williamsburg loses an awful lot. It will be extremely difficult to replace Aaron Root at catcher. His bat, defense and leadership, were just phenominal the past 4 years. Losing Witt will thin out the pitching staff as well. Shelly returns to pitch,Surber should add depth, and Both Ryan and Will Moses will be back. I see the Jackets having the same problems as they have had, the defense is not very strong, and they will be limited in quality hitters. I look for Corbin, South, and North to be pretty good, and the team on the rise should be Whitley County. Afraid it may be slim pickings for the Jackets next season. They may also be looking for a coach as I have not heard whether or not Stricklin will return.

On the senior list should be Aaron Root and Geoffry Witt from the 13th region all a champs Williamsburg.

Fine young man and a great football mind. Wonder if he'll install that C-N split back veer like he did at lincoln. Good luck Clay!

For Williamsburg it will be tough to replace the Leadership and Play Making of Aaron Root at FB and LB, and Thomas Frazier at QB. Root led the district with 174 tackles and was hellacious as a blocker, runner, and reciever, and Frazier was tough as nails and had that big arm that could stretch the field. The burg should be better on the O-Line with lots of experience returning, and from what I hear Abner and Rollins have gotten huge, strong and nasty. The reciving corps should be deeper, and Wil Moses should be fine out of the backfield. The season will hinge on the development of Ryan Moses at QB.

Haven't seen a release on this, but I heard that Aaron Root and Jeff Witt made this from Williamsburg. Heard this from the head coach so I reckon it's reliable...lol. Congrats to two fine young men. (BTW I think this is 13th Region)

Will be pulling for North, but have to say Harlan in a close one.
