Corbin played well. I wish that I could say the same for Williamsburg. They seemed to once again be plagued with errors and bad positioning. The Jackets have a talented group of players. I was sorry to see their season end in this fashion. Best of luck to them next year and Best of luck to the Redhounds tonight.

As a fan of Williamsburg, just wanted to say thank you to a fine group of seniors. Especially Root and Witt, its been fun watching you grow and develop and I wish you the best in your futures. Root's tenacity and heart in both baseball and football was always an inspiration and Witt's desire to excel was fun to see as well. Godspeed to this group of seniors, may you always strive for your hearts desire and never settle for less than that. Thanks for the memories.

My hat is off to Williamsburg for a great season in which they won the All-A Region and got to play in Applebees Park. :ylsuper:

Corbin has been hitting the ball very well lately all through the lineup and it continued again yesterday as they exploded for the one big inning that decided this game.

Another good pitching performance from Hedrick who have up three runs on four hits.

14-4...Wow I thought would be a better game than this.

The final was actually 14-3. Corbin scored 12 runs in the third inning as a result of some good hitting plus some costly Williamsburg errors that extended the inning. Hard to come back against a pitcher as good as Hedrick, who is now 11-0 on the season.

Think Williamsburg ended up with 4 hits. Root was 1 for 1 with 2 walks, Ryan Moses was 1 for 3, Hurst and Ghantous both 1 for 3. I could be wrong but I think this is correct.

Have to admit if you had told me before the season, against a pretty tough schedule, the burg would win 19, and go back to Applebee's I'd have said I'll take it, lets pack the bags...lol. Hats off to Coach Stricklin on a pretty remarkable job.

Have to agree with you volfan, Root plays his heart out and Witt is about the same they were the types of leaders a team needs, and will be sorely missed next year. Big shoes to fill, but if their Coach stays and I heard he might leave, then this would be a Bigger blow for this team. Shelley is a pretty good pitcher, and the Moses boys are pretty talented, but what else do they have?

Williamsburgs team had a lot of potential this year that was not used. You guys played players out of positions and lived & died witha defense that did not work. Look back at your stats. Errors were rampant in every game and they were usually the same errors. The wins against Middlesboro and Paintsville were won by shear luck. Pitching and timely hitting won those games. Not your defense. In games where the defense needed to step up, they didn't and the game was lost. I heard that several of the teams better players were not going to be back again next year. Many parents are concerned that the baseball program is moving in the same direction as Williamsburgs basketball program did several years ago. Some of the best players will be walking the halls or playing other sports instead of playing on the field. How can a coach stay and coach a team when he has for the most part lost the respect of most of his team? I hope everything works out for the best, It would be a shame to see Williamsburg loose some good players because of all that went on this year.

There are always going to be a disgruntled parent or two when their child does not play where they want or as much as they want................sounds like we may have us one here.

Many in Williamsburg will not know what they had until Coach Striklin gives it up and apathy takes over.

Personally I'm not sure for what he gets paid, and from the lack of support financially from the school and administration, I would do the job that Stricklin has done. Sure I don't always agree with what he does on the field, but heck when I coached I had second guessers as well. Instaed of constantly beating up the coach, Williamsburg should be thankful for a pretty decent year. As far as players who are better sitting on the bench...thats a subjective opinion. I thought going into the season they would be weak at 2nd, 3rd, and short...and guess what...they were. But unless someone took up some clay and breathed life into it, thats what they had to deal with. I'm sure there were parents who thought their kid would be better at positions than they actually were. So if they want to pack it up and go home and not come back...fine. I taught my kids that how one handles adversity is the measure of a man...so if you can't give your all, bide your time, and work towards your goals (and those goals should be both personal and team goals), then don't play. Gee whiz, you want to criticize a coach constantly for playing those he plays, well guess what, he sees these kids at every practice, he looks in their eyes and sees who's ready, not all us expert fans. I for one will stand up and commend coach Stricklin....he did a heck of a job with what he had, and as for any wins being sheer luck, well guess what, they count as W's, and you can't take that away. I consider it an insult to those kids who busted their butts to acheive what they have, and to attempt to cheapen it by vitrolic comments is a crying shame. Well enough from me, you all have my opinion, and once again to all the Jackets, I have enjoyed following you!

Again Volfan I agree with you, I was around all the kids on this team. Hurst would be better at 2B and Shelley the outfield, but when you have a small school you get what you get and you have to make it work for the best, the kids tried their best. I had a son who used to play at teh Burg and he would have been better off some place else, but he had to play at a position to help the team, actually Root was the best catcher and third baseman, but I don't think his parents wanted to clone him so coach Striklin had no choice other than play him at catcher and let Hurst play third. The only ones not coming back I have heard are Brock who hardly played and could not play anywhere otehr than CF due to bad jumps on the ball, and Dobek who is moving to Florida. The others graduated. So I don't think the witch hunt should happen, Williamsburg should spend some money on the baseball field, which was hard as a rock. Just ask the kids form Corbin and South Laurel if they liked it, it has horrible hops, the baseball team couldn't hardly get in a gym to have practice when it rained. I know some people felt Teague should have played more but the kid hit probably under .200 for the season. Conlin had his moments as well. But those kids will come back and I heard Abner was coming back next year as well. Maybe if the other sports coaches would allow them to play summer ball it would help the baseball team. Cause they want them for football and basketball and Coach Stricklin had to suffer and not have them, cause his sport was further awy from starting the next school year. There is the real problem at WHS as I see it.

Sorry to disappoint you but I am not a disgruntled parent, just a disgruntled fan. If you disagree with anything a coach does then everyone brings out the old "coach knows best" and "disgruntled parent" excuse. Sometimes, coaches make bad decisions. Period.
