Coach Striclin has done a very good job. I do not always agree with him but I believe that he attempts to be fair and works his butt off. Williamsburgs numbers will always limit their coaches options. This team had no true middle infielders but still competed night in and night out. Who on this team would have started on any other team in the district in the middle infield? They are forced to play kids out of position. Witt would have made a good corner but was forced to play out of position.Some times you are forcedto do the best with what you have. The sophomore class needs to mature another year and they will be given their oportunity. Surber, Conlin and Teague will have a lot of success if they are patient. They are all good talented kids who need to wait their turn.

I would think in a small, closenet, little school like Williamsburg the pecking order would have long been established before these players arrived at the high school level. I would bet they have all played little league, minor league and even T- ball together. I guess when names are in the paper, some loose their "all for one mentality". Shame of the matter is that the high school coaches are the ones getting the blame for not developing the next " Babe Ruth". With the numbers working against the Jackets already, intra- fighting amongst parents, players would surely make things very hard to compete. Jealously is a deadly program killer.

Williamsburg doesn't have the luxury of having all the numbers that the other schools in the district have. Speaking from experience sometimes you have a team full of corner players that you have to put in the middle infield and try to make the best of it because you don't have the players to field those spots. Stricklin has done a heck of a job with what little he has. Until you have coached in a school the size of Williamsburg you can't really know what it is like to try and field a team and then you have to go and play schools 2 to 5 times bigger. Against schools of simliar size Williamsburgs has done very well. Hats off to the baseball team for a good year.
