  1. Corbin is hot right now. I think that the game will be closer than last time but Corbin will still come out on top. Pietrowski knows how to coach under pressure.
  2. Williamsburg played a great game. I'd say that district will be up for grabs to whoever wants it the most. Williamsburg has alot of good talent in their younger players so things should be close for the next coule of years.
  3. I heard one of the Williamsburg players saying that Coach called a play during the timeout to get the ball inside but that the guards didn’t run the play.
  4. I also thought that Williamsburg would win. They have improved since last year. From what I saw, they should be passing the ball inside more.
  5. By the way, this wasn't high school players, it was a middle school girls game.
  6. I was wondering if anyone knows how to go about reporting an offical? I'm not complaining about any of his calls (we won the game) but he made a very inappropriate comment, very vulgar, during our game to 2 of our players.
  7. Why would Perry County want to play Hazard right now without a full team? If they won everyone would be calling it a hollow victory. Wait until the Hazard team has their full team back and then beat them.
  8. I would venture to guess that the players that had the attitude problems the other night are the same ones that have had attitude problems in the past and were allowed to get by with it. One of Williamsburg's greatest problems, and a huge part of their lack of success, is the fact that some individuals are not team players. This is a real shame for players like Teague, Williams, and Rains who are looking at their senior year being wasted unless someone on that staff can get these bad attitudes in check.
  9. Who are the football players that are coming back on the team? Did the Barton kid decide to play again this year?
  10. What happened to the Burg? I honestly thought things were looking up this year.
  11. So it would seem the rumor is not true. Good to hear.
  12. Does anyone know if there is any truth to the rumor that Barton from Williamsburg has transferred back to Corbin?
  13. Who are some of the promising incoming Fr. this year? Jared Barton from Williamsburg looks good.
  14. Ryan Moses- Williamsburg Daniel Pettit- Williamsburg Jared Barton- Incoming Fr. Williamsburg
  15. I thought that Ed Lawson was at Williamsburg now?
  16. You are exactly right in what you are saying. My comments were not directed at the players. I have a great deal of respect for these kids especially for the ones that you described in your post. That is why it is so frustrating sometimes to watch the games.
  17. It really doesn’t matter what we are trying to get across to the coaches on this thread. Our opinions are passed off as coming from disgruntled parents or fans trying to be coaches. What does everyone want to hear? That there is nothing that needs to be done to improve the team? That everything is going fine? That is not true! Williamsburg is coming off of 4 losing seasons in a row and number 5 is coming up if some of the problems addressed in previous threads are not fixed. We can’t all be wrong.
  18. Bad night for the Jackets. Catcher Mark Comparoni taken to the ER in the 4th. inning with a broken collar bone due to a collision at the plate with a SL runner. Starting Pitcher J.T. Shelley relieved by Jared Barton in the 6th. inning. Fresh. catcher Cody Perkins went in for Comparoni. Hated to see this one end the way it did for the Jackets.
  19. Can anyone suggest a good individual summer basketball camp for grades 9-12?
  20. Williamsburg wins with Barton on the mound.
  21. I think that for a few of us our frustration has come across as “coach bashing”. I can only speak for myself when I say that was not my intention and I extend an apology to Coach Robinson. Maybe I can more tactfully word what I feel should be done to help improve the team coming into the 2008/2009 season. Cunningham is an excellent shooter, especially when he is open enough to get off a set shot. I think that when he is on his game and his shoots are falling that the team should feed him the ball. But when an opponent is guarding him heavily, and this will happen a lot during the upcoming season because of his success last year, he needs to learn to pass the ball inside to Teague, Pettit, or to another teammate who has a better shot. Coach Robinson has the #1 and #8 scorers in the Region on his team. An opposing team cannot heavily guard both of them at the same time. One or the other should always be open. If you throw Pettit and Taylor into the mix then that gives 2 strong outside shooters and two big, strong inside shooters. Coach needs to teach his players to look and see who has the best open shot and pass the ball to that person. Winning is a team effort. I also think that team chemistry is very important. I think that my point about team dynamics is valid if you consider the players that the team lost last year. Frustration led to good role players leaving the team. It caused the bench to be very shallow towards the end of the year. Losing players was passed off because of those who left the team and was accepted because they were only role players. Could you imagine the effect it would have had on the team had Teague walked away? I think Williamsburg has a great group of players and I wish them and Coach Robinson every success next season. Again, I apologize for my harsh comments earlier. I think that it is time for me to move on. Maybe I’ll start my own community team somewhere.
  22. I agree with you 100%. The 3 points that you made are spot on. Williamsburg’s practices are closed. My information comes from observing behavior in games and wondering why this behavior occurs only to be told that it goes on in practices. You can see the frustration on the faces of the other players as well. As far as the commitment level of the players go….2 of the 3 players ( Conlin & Brock) that the team lost last year were juniors and had played on the team since the 8th. grade. I think that they had shown that they were committed. In a school with only approx. 300 high schoolers, with half of that amount being female, every good player counts. The Barton kid has played sports for years and comes from a very athletic family that understands what is required to have success on and off of the court. Plus, no one seems to understand that allowing this type of selfish play completely ruins the team chemistry. You can’t have 5 players on the court playing for themselves. To be honest, I was surprised that Pettit and Teague handled the situation as well as they seemed to. Pettit is a great football player and he has to wonder if it’s worth the effort. When you have 2 of the tallest kids in the region on the team and they rarely see the ball, then you have a problem. It’s hard to encourage your kid to play hard and have a good attitude when they are smart enough to see whats going on. I hate to sound like a broken record but until the team discipline improves the W-L record will stay the same. I am only stating my opinion based on what I’ve seen for myself and heard from others.
  23. I believe that he was on the line. He is a big, strong young man and should contribute greatly. What does Coach P think about his basketball players playing football? Manns should be one of his starting 5 this year and won't be able to join the team as early due to football.
  24. Wait a minute…I thought that this thread asked what Williamsburg needed to do to improve from last year? I didn’t start the thread; I only gave my opinion, which is what it asked for. And yes, I did say the same things last year and they are still true this year. Let me ask you this, Les. When you started working at your first job did you just walk in, sit down, and start to work? Or, did someone show you the ropes? Did you have a mentor that you could go to with questions and from his past experiences could give you guidance? I understand that Coach Robinson was hired to coach but as I’m sure you know most head coaches in any sport have usually coached for several years under a seasoned coach and have learned from that coach. From what I was told, Robinson was thrown into a difficult situation and I do believe that he has tried to make things work. It is hard not to be disgruntled though, but don’t just assume that we are all disgruntled parents whose little Michael Jordan’s didn’t get enough playing time. You were not there. You haven’t been at the practices nor have you been at all of the games. If a huge amount of people are trying to tell Coach Robinson the same things then maybe, just maybe, we have a point. As for whining about good players sitting in the stands rather than playing….the Barton kid is an eighth grader who had 4 more years to play for the Jackets. He is a talented athlete who is a team player that would have contributed greatly to the team. He plays varsity baseball and football without having any issues with fellow players or coaches. He was wasted in basketball, and frustrated, mainly because of the selfish style of play that Coach Robinson allowed. I’m not the only person that has expressed this opinion on BGP and if things do not change next season I can guarantee you that there will be more.
  25. I agree with your first two statements. They need leadership in some form but it needs to start with the coaching staff and trickle down to the senior players. You can't place the responsibilty of fixing what is wrong on the players. A leader has to look at the big picture and do what is best for the group as a whole not what is best for himself. Until Coach teaches that philosopy to his players a leader will not step up. IMO Coach Robinson has gotten so much advice that I think he is determined to show everyone that he is the boss and because of that stubborness he has lost sight of what is right in front of his face. Sometimes it is okay to take a step back and at least consider what others are trying to tell you. I know that I am not the only person who has expressed my opinion on some of the problems with the team. If several people are seeing the same things then maybe, just maybe we have a point. Coach Robinson can stand his ground and refuse to listen. He can run the team as he sees fit and ignore the advise from people who just might have a clue as to what they are talking about. He can divy up the shots as he sees fit and he can continue to lose.
