Honest question… do you realistically think O-Cath beats Greenwood this year? I'd say most folks would say, “No way.” Why? Because most folks would agree O-Cath would never be able to tackle Howard.

East has been firing on all cylinders on O and has shown that they score A LOT regardless of their opponent. East will be a tough out for anyone they face in 4A.

Greenwood will have the best player on the field and they are like a boxer that you can TKO but never KO. I’m picking the upset… GW - 28 OHS - 14

The great thing about the playoffs is they have a way of quieting all the talk. There is little doubt that Douglas is the favorite in 5A… will they live up to that expectation? I think we’ll find out a lot in the second round.

It’s an important check for some schools. For a team of young players with a future, it’s an important experience, and one more time to see live action. It’s one last week of football for some seniors who play their hearts out for bad teams. Even for those teams headed to the inevitable running clock, it can be a good week of practice, team bonding, and closing up shop. Its one final road trip (sometimes a long one) for teams to be together. Obviously, there are a share of teams where they just want to be done, but for more teams than some think, it’s a good final week of HS football.

I would say no one in 5A can take South lightly... I would also say South very well might lose this game.

Your irked response to the suggestion that it would not be wise to assume victory in November against two programs that have a long history of playing well in the cold, conveys quite the sense of real confidence about a Douglas program that taken the field with more talent than anyone they have played for years now and continually come up short...

Scoffing at the chances for Highlands or Cov. Cath to come out a winner in November in favor of a school with a total of 0 State Titles is quite the interesting approach by some folks.

Does South even really want to win this 1st round game? Seems to me they just want this one to be over with.

I think the biggest takeaway from this Daviess Co. game for East was that they found a way to win. Great teams do that. I know that sounds cliche but I have seen many East teams in the past that have found ways to lose games they should have won. I think this season and their ability to find ways to win are a testament to: 1. The work of building a program over just building a team that Coach Griff has done; 2. The coaching staff that has been put together at East—they have top notch coaching there right now; 3. The talented players they have who play together—they really are special when you look at them physically; 4. Against almost anyone, East’s QB is gonna be the best player on the field. What a run so far by the Raiders!

4A, 5A, and 6A will all see potential shifts in their top 4 based on two games this week. Douglas v. Boyle X v. BG

The QB for East is an absolute bull! Huge culmination of the program that Coach Griffith has been building at East for the past several years. 9-0 and hosting Daviess with a shot to go 10-0 and possibly secure a top 4 RPI. Great win!

This is not a great FS team. This is a 4A challenger out of the West of an East team. When those have been the conditions, it has not worked out well for the Wildcats. East takes care of business.

I would still pick with great confidence Cov Cath, South, and probably Highlands to beat everyone not named Douglas or BG… and to be honest, I’m not sold on Douglas… talk about a pillow fight of a schedule… we’ll find out about them in Week 10 against Boyle.

Lots of talk about enrollment numbers moving schools. In reality, the class size balance (I.e. how many teams per class make for balanced class numbers) PLUS enrollment size will dictate who lands where. I would predict very little change from the current alignment. I'll also say that you will see a pretty significant enrollment interval between the smallest 5A and biggest 5A schools. I think 6A will stay looking like 6A in terms of the teams as will 1A. 2A and 3A may do some swapping. 4A remains essentially the same unless Highlands and Cov. Cath do some moving. But 5A may see a pretty big difference in enrollment between the smallest and biggest teams in the class. Just basing that off of listening to people who are smarter than me.

What exactly is the win that is propelling Woodford to #2? FD doesn’t have much of a resume either but they are at least annihilating Lexington schools. Cov Cath on the other hand has been crowned the 1A (beat Pikeville) and 2A (beat Beechwood) state champs AND beat Lex Cath (ahem, cough (dodge) Douglas). BG beat South South obliterated Highlands I just can’t understand the Woodford ranking. Maybe the playoffs will shut me up… but I doubt it.

What teams from KY’s past would dominate everyone (regardless of class) in KY this year? I’ll start… I would say the ‘98 Highlands team would beat everyone by 14 to 21 points The 2011 BGHS team would cruise through the state this year. Who else?

To assume that Greenwood is ever a “no contest” is a bad idea. Never take the Gators lightly, certainly not a 6-1 Greenwood team that has beaten a 4A top 10 Logan team.

South had the clock running on Highlands in the 2nd quarter. Can we please stop pretending they’re a 5A contender this year?
