I think it would be hard to argue that Cov Cath wasn’t the class of NKY (please don’t say Cooper without looking at the comparative scores) and they are getting demolished. LCA hung with Boyle, so did Corbin. So it’s not like NOBODY could do it. Will be interesting to see how Cooper fares against BG tomorrow.

This game is raising some serious questions about the quality of football in NKY this year… Cov Cath looks completely outmatched.

Nobody can question Mayfield as king of 2A... downed LCA downed Beechwood downed O-Cath I mean, wow.

1. Cov Cath owned Highlands in the 2nd half of that game. They outscored the Birds 21-7 in the 2nd half. 2. "By far" is where you stumbled. Having watched Highlands several time this year and having seen the South/BG game, I would say South would have beat or at least been in the game with Highlands. I would also say that late in the season Owensboro would have hung with them as well if for no other reason than Highlands apparently just abandoned the pass.

There is ZERO evidence that Cooper would beat Cov Cath. Cooper hung on for dear life to beat a Highlands team that seemed to get worse as the year went on. Cov Cath dominated that same Highlands team. Ryle beat Cooper, Cov Cath beat Ryle. The only similar game they have is against the beloved 5-7 Dixie Heights.

At least the Cooper vibe has filled the void left by Highlands folks bowing out…

No, I am saying that whoever finishes first in that district will not be the outright favorite which was originally insinuated. I think that 5A will be a monster next year with 3-6 REALLY good teams.

This tells me you really do not know what teams have coming back in ‘24.

Highlands has seen plenty of challengers come and go in NKY who claim to be the "new rivals" of the Birds. Heck Conner beat the Birds twice in one year in 2019. And in the end, it always comes back to the Birds and Cov Cath and then the flavor of a two-three year span. Teams circle Highlands on their schedule. Highlands only circles one team on its schedule.

Hence, this is a "nice run". Cooper might clip Highlands again next year... but the development of a rivalry... history would suggest otherwise.

Cooper is 3-7 in their last 10 meetings with the Birds, and most of that has come against what a lot of folks would call the "down" years at Highlands. This is a nice run for the Jags but let's keep things in perspective.

BG has seen top tier passing and running attacks this year led by multiple D1 QB’s and FCS RB’s. Cooper will be a strong test but BG has no lack of experience with dynamic offenses.

Would not be surprised if CAL gets a running clock. I doubt this one will be close.

I mean, they did beat powerhouse Dixie Heights... I mean, let's just keep them there at #1.

I think it worth noting that BG has done all of this minus the Barlow kid at WR who was committed to Air Force before going down in a scrimmage at the beginning of the year. That's pretty special that they are back in the Finals minus a D1 player they expected to have. Hats off to the coaches and players and one more to go!

Where on earth is Highland's strength of schedule number coming from? I mean, they played Lex Cath and Cov Cath and...

Out of curiosity, why? BG won pretty convincingly over Owensboro at Rash and has only gotten better on D since that game. Outside of the X game, BG has clicked along on O all season. What we make you favor the Red Devils at Rash?

Counting out Cov Cath in December is a dangerous game…

Owensboro 42-0... likely 35-0 at the end of the first half. Nothing against Atherton and you have to love to see some of the non-bluebloods of JCPS having real success but this is the 3rd round and this is where the cream begins to rise to the top. Owensboro is one of the schools in KY that when they are on and clicking, it's a real problem for just about any team they face.

Based on a win against a 5-win Dixie team? Highlands is good, no doubt, but in the four games against teams with a pulse they have won by 6 and 7 over Lex Cath and Cooper and lost by 14 to 4A Cov Cath who is a distant 3rd best team in that class. They have one really dominating win over a good Ryle team. So, I will agree they are the favorites, but to say they are some distant untouchable in 5A is comical.

On paper, it doesn’t look like it.

I think 5A is wide open at this point. BG, Obro, Cooper, and Highlands are all on pretty even footing at this point, which makes for an exciting next several weeks!

I think it's good that the Purples get a fired up Graves Co. team that is clicking. Makes for a much more interesting Friday night than another "down by 40" playoff matchup. I hope Graves brings it. That said, give me the Purples with a running clock midway through the 3rd. BG, when on, is spooky good on O and is getting better weekly on D.
