I think 1A, 2A, 3A, and 4A games will all have communities really show up. The 5A game continually getting stuck in the last time slot is ridiculous and in my opinion has a dramatically negative impact on the attendance of that game. The 6A game will have a great Ryle crowd. I imagine the Trinity crowd will be good but nothing out of the ordinary.

Uh, yeah they have. The Bunton kid for South Warren is basically a Brahma bull on the loose when he scrambles and is an Eastern Michigan committed QB for a reason. Is O’Hara probably the best BG will face, sure, but don’t get it mixed up, BG has seen high caliber RB’s, WR’s, QB’s and every other position aplenty this season.

Is this where Franklin Co. declares to the state that they are the best team no one in KY has been talking about all year... a team, and a program, that could lure a coach back from Highlands? I think so.

If O-Cath wins it, I think Atwell could win it.

I think the win is stunning but let's not pretend that Cov Cath is not one of KY's top 10-15 programs overall in football and they were hardly limping into this one at 10-2 with losses to two teams who will be playing next Friday as well. Amazing win. Big upset. The biggest ever I think is a little insulting to who Cov Cath is IMHO.

Sheesh… that’s depressing. That “new” turf reminds me of the Old Cardinal Stadium concrete carpet!

I agree that most in Louisville don’t have an equal weight room… but that’s about it. Outside of Louisville is another story. I would feel very confident in saying that St. X’s turf is in the worst condition of ANY High School in KY. And that’s not hyperbole. We took a team there in 2013 and the field was in bad shape and we heard about the plans to update the weight room, locker room, and field…

Elite for the Tigers? Like winning a State Championship in one of his 7 years… same as Glaser in his last EIGHT years? Give me a break.

St. X’s facilities are pretty bad. Their weight room is dated, the locker room is comical, and their field is basically asphalt. In 2010, X had great facilities. A lot of KY has caught up and passed them in the last 14 years.

Glaser once lost in the 1st round to Meade Co… X then won state three years later. Things happen. But nothing is worse for a program than nostalgics who spend all their time looking back while the road ahead is still oncoming.

I get the feeling that Atherton does not inspire the feel-good-story feelings of the Louisville folks...

I am going to predict a running clock in all four of 5A's Regional Championship games... which is a shame.

Some not-so-kind trips are involved, but the trips are dictated by pairing more appropriate matchups over more convenient ones. I will admit, when entering several of the games, I went, "Yuck, that's not good." ?

This was a legit issue. The most glaring example I saw when doing this was Lex Cath which fell all the way to the alternate bracket because of losing to their brutal first half of the year schedule. I didn’t have a great solution to this other than to examine the elimination of districts and a move to a more Region centric style of required scheduling. It is an obvious imperfection, that I admit.

We can all agree that the 1st round of the playoffs is essentially a wash. But what if it wasn't? Linked is a proposal for a playoff system that divides teams based on RPI standings into two separate brackets for two, four-round playoff systems that end on Thanksgiving Day (the alternate bracket championship day) and the Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend (the championship bracket). The State Championship bracket would pit the top 8 teams from a combined Region 1 and 2 and the top 8 from Regions 3 and 4 for the first round (to try and limit travel--though it is imperfect) and then for rounds 2 and 3, based on RPI standings. The fun comes in the alternate bracket, which uses the same pairing system for teams 9-16 as the State Championship Bracket for Rounds 1-3 and culminates in a "Turkey Bowl" to be played at the higher seed's home stadium on Thanksgiving Day for each of the six classes. The premise is: Shorten the playoffs by a week and create more initially competitive games. Allow the middle-of-the-road teams to play for a few extra weeks. Three days (Thanksgiving, Friday, Saturday) of football to close out the season. It still awards six State Champions while allowing six other programs to finish on a high note. Football is over a week earlier - basketball folks will be happy (maybe). It's more football for more kids--and within the boundaries of a normal season and structure. For a lot of solid 4-6 to 6-4 teams, that alternate bracket could yield some quality gate numbers. If nothing else, I had fun creating the brackets. To be fair, and if I remember correctly, didn't Owensboro drop two wide-open TD-to-be passes in that game? I ask that because it sounds like the play call was there, but the player execution was not.

Just shameful what has happened to football in Christian Co Schools (both CCHS and Hoptown). Absolute travesty of two proud and historic powerhouses of KY HS football reduced to what looks like neglected afterthoughts of programs. Just a tragedy. And it’s not just the coaches, or the administration, or the community. It’s so many factors failing all at once.

In 2020 the Devils played for a State Championship. In 2024 they beat South and played in the Semi Finals, losing to the clear State Champ, BG. Not sure what the expectation is but Owensboro didn’t win a title with Tut & Hall, or one with Miller & Smith… not sure why they would win one with Hampton.
