  1. Yes.. without a doubt. No way Male beats either of those two and neither does anyone else in KY. Don't forget, South hammered the 4A Champions this year.
  2. FS with too many times in a game like this and too many kids that know what this game takes. FS and JC set to meet in the back alley one more time for a good brawl to end a great run of talent at FS.
  3. You know that Week 2 game where UAB schedules Bama...and it's close for like 5 minutes...Yeah, you get the idea... South hands out their last running clock...
  4. Everyone loves to chant "We want Bama" till they show up and get Bama... SW with a running clock in the 3rd
  5. BINGO money done run out...good football team, unpaid light bill. :jump:
  6. You know how in college teams start chanting "We want Bama!" and everyone is like, "Yeah, sure you do..." OK Logan, here is your shot at Bama, make it count.
  7. I have a hard time seeing anyone give FS much of a game till Johnson Central and as long as FS is healthy, I don't see that as being much of a game either.
  8. 4A Franklin has kept this traditional game with 1A Russellville... But dropped the traditional game with 5A BGHS. :idunno:
  9. I've watched BG football since the late 80's. I can say this, I have rarely seen them in a game where they were just out of it from the get go (with the exception of the '02 anomaly team). The only ones I can remembers from 1997 to now (a twenty year span - not including the weird '02 season): Lex Cath in '99 The Owensboro playoff game in '00 Lex Cath in the Finals in '05 Cov Cath in the Finals in '06 St. X in '15 That's FIVE times in TWENTY years. Warren Central will bring staggering numbers and great talent to the table but I predict BG will give them all they want. I'm gonna be a homer and take BG 21-14.
  10. Trinity blew a 21 point lead. Really good teams don’t do that regardless of who they’re playing. Not sayin that they’re not #1 but I think there’s a solid argument for Cov Cath this year. I think Cov Cath would have beaten T last year. This year remains to be seen.
  11. When someone tells you about how soft this generation is, how they just quit on things, or how they don't know how to deal with tough times... ...send 'em the story of these 9 kids.
  12. Seriously? You just bypassed the whole "they are good" and focused on the statement "they have some warts being hidden by that schedule" and took that and turned it into saying that they ARE warts? OK...:idunno:
  13. Logan lost 28-0 to McCracken in what was about a half of football in a Scrimmage. They're good, but there are some warts that are being hidden by that schedule. Hoptown will be their real measuring stick.
  14. New alignment does not take place till 2019. FS should own 2018...after that, I suspect they graduate a lot and 4A becomes a bit more mysterious.
  15. BG and Cov Cath are the teams to beat. Cov. Cath would have beat Scott Co. and hammered South last year...and they're going to continue to be very good in the coming years. BG has won five of the last seven in 5A...I'm gonna go out on a limb and call them still the other team to beat.
  16. The Press Release on Coach Benton Russellville High School is proud to announce the hiring of Coach Mikie Benton as the new RHS Panther Head Football Coach. Coach Benton takes over the Russellville Panther football program as just the fourth Panther Head Football Coach since 1976. Coach Benton is a 2008 graduate of Russellville High School where he was a multi-sport athlete. Coach Benton has worked on the Russellville Panther coaching staff for the past five seasons under former Head Coach, John Myers serving as the team’s Defensive Coordinator this past season. Coach Benton is a 2012 Graduate of the University of Kentucky where he played football for the Cats. Coach Benton is currently an Exceptional Education teacher for the Russellville Independent School District. Coach Benton was selected by an interview committee made up of members of the administration, several members of the community and a member of the school’s SBDM. The committee took particular note of Coach Benton’s strong ties to the Russellville community, his success as an assistant coach for the Panthers, and his commitment to the ideals of excellence held by the Russellville football program. Coach Benton takes over a team that returns multiple starters on offense and defense. Coach Benton takes over for John Myers who led the Panthers for the past fourteen seasons, rebuilding the proud program into the image of Coach Ken Barrett’s Panthers that won three State Championships in 1980, 1983, and 1990. Under Coach Myers, the Panthers won the Class A Regional Championship in 2015 and 2016. Coach Benton played Football, Basketball, and ran track at Russellville. During his time playing football for the Panthers he was selected as an All State Defensive Back and played in the 2008 KY All Star Game. Coach Benton excelled in basketball as well as on the track where in 2007 and 2008 he was the KY State 110 Meter Hurdles Champion. Following his successful career as a Russellville Panther, Coach Benton moved on to the University of Kentucky where he played football and started at Free Safety for the Wildcats in 2011 and 2012. Coach Benton graduated from UK with a degree in Ag. Business and is currently pursuing a Masters in Exceptional Education. On being hired as the new Panther Head Football Coach, Coach Benton had this to say: “I feel honored to be the next Head football Coach at Russellville. I was born and raised in this community and I’ve spent all my life watching, dreaming about, playing, and coaching Russellville football. To now take this next step in being a part of this tradition is a bit surreal. The success we’ve had in recent years is something I plan to build on and push a step further. Words cannot even express how excited I am to get to work.” Athletic Director Kyle Yates on the hiring of Coach Benton: “We have made a commitment to hire Russellville people to coach at Russellville. This year alone, we have hired alumni who are teachers in our system to coach Baseball, Softball, and now Football. Coach Benton is another step in the direction that we want to head. We are a special school and a special community in the ways in which we value excellence and tradition. This is a school, town, and alumni base that expects to be the best. Coach Benton embodies all of the best of what is Russellville. We are lucky to have a man of such high character to lead our program.”
  17. There's very little chance of a state title in 90% of KY. In South central KY, Greenwood has won a Regional Championship in the last 10 years...here's a list of area schools that can't say that: Trigg Co. Todd Co. Logan Co. Grayson Co. Ohio Co. Muhlenburg Co. Butler Co. Edmonson Co. Barren Co. Hart Co. Caverna Metcalfe Co. Warren Central Greenwood has far better boosters, equal or better facilities, and equal or better pay than all of those listed places...it is able to recruit young para-pro coaches because of the city...it is more easily able to hire teacher-coaches because of the sheer size of the school...and it's in BG, so win or lose, you at least get to eat at Double Dogs or BW3s after the game. I'd say there's a good deal more enticement to the Greenwood job than some are realizing.
  18. Warren Co. revamped their coaching pay in 2014 or 15. It is comparable or better than all but your long time traditional programs in South Central KY. There is an urban legend nature to what football coaches make in KY that seems to exist, especially on this board. Warren Co. pays very well.
  19. Neither position will be difficult to fill, I will argue: Greenwood is a Big BG-located school with unlimited support from the boosters and you get to coach in a town with more than a Piggly Wiggly. The coach pay in Warren Co. is excellent compared with a lot of the surrounding areas and it is a tremendous school to teach and work in. Let us not forget,t hat just a year ago, Greenwood beat South Warren. It is also a school that has had high levels of success in all sports (they even went to the Final Four in football). Russellville is arguably one of the four best jobs in South Central KY. The facilities are excellent, the stadium is historic, the talent is always there, and you are playing in 1A, where a team like Russellville is almost ALWAYS in the picture for it all. I think these two jobs are just the opposite of tough to fill.
  20. Since 1976 (42 seasons), Russellville: Ken Barrett, 1976 - 1997 Bob Nelson, 1997 - 2003 John Myers, 2004 - 2018
  21. Since 1984 (34 seasons), Bowling Green: Dan Haley, 1984 - 1995 Kevin Wallace, 1996 - Present
  22. 8th grade team handled most people this year.
  23. Highlands is a big time job. If you want a big time job you have to take the things that come with it. This isn't some place where they do "up and down" years. When you don't win at places like Highlands, this is what happens. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.
