  1. The Cardinals blasted Marion County 62-6, setting a season high for points scored in moving their record to 8-1. They host 2-7 Green County, a team whose most notable accomplishment this year seems destined to be using an ineligible player against Caverna, allowing Caverna to snap a long losing streak by administrative forfeit. Nevertheless, last season a 7-2 Taylor County team fell 30-28 to Green County in a stunner. Can Green County pull an encore?
  2. It was closer than Taylor County would have liked, but the Cardinals wrapped up their first district title in a decade with a 26-21 come from behind win over Mercer County. Taylor County trailed at the half, 14-6, but surged ahead with 20 straight points to win their fifth in a row. They close with a Marion County team that just had their playoff hopes ended in a 35-26 loss to East Jessamine, a team Taylor County shut out 34-0. This has all the makings of a blowout. Will it be?
  3. Like much of 4A's top ten, Taylor County has not been challenged much lately. The district 5 favorites have won three in a row to move their record to 5-1, and those wins have been by a combined 128-15. This week they host 2-5 East Jessamine, though that record is somewhat deceptive. The Jags have not lost a game by more than 14 points. In fact, all seven of their games have been decided by 14 or less, even their wins. They're used to a pressure situation, and they'll try to dial that up for an upset here. Last year they were just a single game better at 3-4 when they knocked off Taylor County 28-20 en route to a district title. Can they pull that again?
  4. Franklin-Simpson and Taylor County meet for just the second time ever, and first time since the 1998 first round, a 40-34 Franklin-Simpson victory in Franklin. This matchup takes place at Taylor County, where the Cardinals just extended their win streak to ten games with a region final win over Moore by a 22-17 score. Taylor County scored with just 23 seconds remaining to take the lead over favored Moore. Meanwhile, Franklin was pushed to the full limit in a narrow 12-10 survival against Madisonville North-Hopkins, who they trailed 10-0 at the half and 10-6 entering the fourth. Franklin was held 33 points below their season average, and it was their lowest scoring effort since a loss to South Warren in 2017. The Wildcats had not won with that low a score in 25 years, losing 41 in a row. Now they meet a Taylor County team that has the top scoring defense in 4A. Was this week a blip or can Taylor County finish what Madisonville could not?
  5. Taylor County takes a break from district play to visit the palatial new stadium at Barren County. The Cardinals have posted two straight shutouts to raise their total to three on the season. They got a 55-0 shutout in this game a year ago. For their part, Barren County has won two of three by a combined 3 points, going on the long road trip to Ballard County to knock off Ballard Memorial 22-20 a week ago. Can the Trojans notch another home win?
  6. The Cardinals are rested after their bye week, coming in at 3-1. They have pitched two shutouts on the year, including a 39-0 win on September 7th against LaRue County. West Jessamine rebounded from a surprising loss to Russell County with a 34-24 win over Nelson County last week. It's the first district game for both teams, and it was a great one last season, a 26-20 OT win for Taylor County. What happens this time?
